Have any ladies suffered with dizzy spells during their pregnancy? I've had a couple of small, short but sudden episodes since Saturday. Not something I've had earlier on in my pregnancy but my god, I felt slightly dizzy this morning after school run, then tired and now I've just woke up feeling like I've been hit by a bus 😬

Only had one during my first pregnancy. I went to be seen and when they checked my BP it was high. Fortunately it was one isolated episode. Better call and get it checked.

Perexi · 07/02/2023 17:23

My partner is going to have 2 weeks paternity and then a week annual leave we think but may extend this although he mainly WFH which I think will be good as although working I wont be alone.

We'll start the leave the day of labour or I guess c-section which is a real possibility now after the scan yesterday. I think he will be at the hospital with me as much as possible/allowed so makes sense for us espresso as it's just us.

Perexi · 07/02/2023 17:24

Or especially not espresso 😂🤣

Finished my latest blanket, messed up the edges a bit (it doesn’t sit flat) but it’s going in the pram so when it’s wrapped around the baby I don’t think anyone will notice 😂

This is amazing!

DH will get 2 weeks paternity leave, which he will start when we get home from the hospital. Last time he started it the day DD was born so we only ended up having a few days at the end at home all together, because of a long hospital stay. I’m hoping he can take the day of her birth as annual leave (bit last minute but they’re usually accommodating) then just evening visits until we get discharged. DD being at home means he will need to do nursery pick ups and drop off anyway, but once we’re home we’re going to keep her off for a few days to spend time as a 4.

Has anyone been booked in for a birth plan meeting? I didn’t have one last time, is it helpful in any way or do we just write a few things down for them to be ignored at the hospital? 😂

Midwife said we will go through the birth plan at the 36 week meeting on Monday.

Rose429 · 07/02/2023 18:43

I tried “mapping” the baby’s position by feels but couldn’t really tell. This is when the daily hiccups are helpful because I can feel them at lower belly and occasionally in my bum, so pretty sure she’s head down. I read that if you can feel lots of kicks under your ribs it means that baby is in anterior position which is ideal for birth as well. Hopefully she stays that way fingers crossed

Dreamingof3 · 07/02/2023 18:53

My partner gets 2 weeks paternity and the he's said he'll take another week of annual leave but I'm not sure I want him to 😂 I like getting into my proper routine once he's back at work, and if I have a section again I know that after 2 weeks I should manage the very short walk to school without much issue

Babynum2 · 07/02/2023 18:54

36+2 today and not 1 mention of birth plan but I don't mind bit pointless for me.

Me And DP are both self employed his shifts are 12 hours so I think he will probably just take a couple days off from day I go in labour and then back to working nights. I'm going back to working 2 days a week once baby is 3 months old as I've been on maternity since 20ish weeks due to having my stitch put in.

Stitch is coming out on Monday😁

iratepirate · 07/02/2023 19:22

The only mention of birth plan at my midwife apt was that she sent me away with a leaflet about preferences. Which I know is just ignored when it comes to delivery anyway, so I’m not going to spend a lot of time worrying about it unnecessarily.

Babynum2 · 07/02/2023 19:27

I feel like a birth plan is good for those who are low risk and able to give birth on the birthing Centre. Someone like me who's high risk and has to go to delivery can't have a water birth and possibly not aloud an epidural it's a bit pointless. I was low risk with first pregnancy though and still my birth plan went out the window but I think it's obviously good for some people who like to feel a bit more in control.

iratepirate · 07/02/2023 19:38

I’d have liked a home birth tbh, but basically was told they wouldn’t have the staff for that.

Blocklynn · 07/02/2023 19:48

Husband is having 2 weeks paternity and 2 weeks annual leave. Would have been nice for him to have longer but can’t afford to give him any of my maternity leave as he’s the main earner.

My midwife said we would discuss a birth plan, will be seeing her Thursday so might ask about it then. I’m hopefully giving birth at a birth centre so would hope they are able to be more flexible regarding requests.
There’s a section on birth plans on the hypnobirthing course too, that’s the last bit we need to do.

allthingssparkly · 07/02/2023 19:52

@CristinaNov182 I had my BP done when I went to antenatal for my scan yesterday and it was normal. I should have mentioned this dizziness to the consultant then but I totally forgot. I'm starting to wonder if it's due to my iron levels. Will speak with the midwife this week and get her thoughts x

Splashh · 07/02/2023 19:54

@allthingssparkly I’ve also been having dizzy spells since Sunday (35+6 today). I think it’s hunger/blood sugar related as oppose to low blood pressure. I’ve been eating as usual but not feeling hungry, and I notice when I’m dizzy, if I eat, i feel much better thereafter…

AK93 · 07/02/2023 20:14

Interesting to see everyone's comments on how midwives could or couldn't tell how baby's laying!
I also had my 34w appt this morning and I asked when they feel for head engagement. She said from 36 weeks but she felt all over (quite low down too!) she didn't tell me other than that it felt might be a bit engaged already, and said where back, bum and legs are/were. I looked on app after and she's put as engagement as 3/5ths! Fundal height she measured as 36w so back to that being ahead again (I know it can differ between who does it and some other factors). Scan next will hopefully give a better idea how he's growing, I can definitely tell there's a baby in there now though and guess it was his back I could feel myself when poking around last night ! I also feel hardness lower down which is most likely part of his head I guess. Just to find out if placenta has moved next week!

Loving seeing the beautiful makes from all the talented knitters and crocheters on here!!

Babynum2 · 07/02/2023 20:56

I've been 2/5 engaged since 1st Jan but I would rather not be because he's still back to back the little pickle 😂

JG24 · 07/02/2023 21:20

People who aren't first time parents can't I ask - what did your partners do when you start having contractions? I've heard you can be labour for a couple of days. Do partners generally keep going to work until the contractions are closer together?

Babynum2 · 07/02/2023 21:35

@JG24 if your contractions are not close together and your not dilated very much they generally send you home if your low risk until your further along in your labour. My labour's were only 5 hours each time but I think if I got sent home and wasn't progressing much DP would probably go to work but only if he wasn't to far away.

GreenIsle · 07/02/2023 21:39

@JG24 with all my labours I was lucky they started early hours of the morning so could see how things went before DH would even be due into work. He never went into work on those days because contractions did progress quickly and so had the baby's same day. You can tell by the intensity yourself if you feel like you need your partner at home or they can go to work until you need them. I imagine he may want to be on hand to help you though and would be difficult for him to concentrate on work if worried about you at home labouring. Dp was able to fetch me pain killers and make tea and snacks etc.

JG24 · 07/02/2023 21:40

@Babynum2 Thanks good to know. I've only got 1 friend who's had children and she was in labour for 4 days! It seems silly my partner being off work all that time when I imagine there's not much he can be doing

Cats23 · 08/02/2023 00:44

@JG24 - My labours have been 3.5hrs, 1hr and 10hrs, Partner was with me whole time so no gradual at home sort of start to contractions as such, they start and get intense pretty quick.

Im going back to work after 8 weeks ( sepf employed , I work in a v.easy role and am out of 3-4 days a week 9.30-2.30.
Partner is also self employed owns a hospitality buisness, I believe my due date is the start of easter holidays, not ideal for hospitality haha, Dp will be off for a few days all being well, but can get home for good chunks of the day anyway.

dmb91 · 08/02/2023 07:44

Does anyone know much about when inductions can be booked for?
I'm convinced baby will be late, midwife said they will let me go TWELVE!!! 😫 days late which takes me to Saturday 8th April.
Do they do inductions on weekends? It's Easter weekend too so would they induce on Good Friday? Or can I have an end date of Thursday 6th in my head?

Blondewave · 08/02/2023 07:49

JG24 · 07/02/2023 21:20

People who aren't first time parents can't I ask - what did your partners do when you start having contractions? I've heard you can be labour for a couple of days. Do partners generally keep going to work until the contractions are closer together?

its a tricky one. My first baby my partner at the time went off work when I went in to be induced. Unfortunately went in the morning of the 14th thinking it would happen in next day or two and he wasn’t born for another 4 days then I had to stay in for 3 days so by time we got home he had less than 1 week left of paternity. Which was nightmare as I was left by myself very early on. Hard to know what’s right to do.

Dreamingof3 · 08/02/2023 07:59

@JG24 it's a hard one to judge as you just never know how long things will take. For me it would depend on where your partner works! Mine is often a few hours away, but he is easily contacted and can leave with pretty much no notice. I also think in the early stages id rather be by myself anyway 😂

iratepirate · 08/02/2023 08:02

@JG24 DH went to work on the morning my labour started as I had a feeling it would be a while and I would be more than happy to drive myself there if needed before he got home. 🤷🏻‍♀️

He got home that evening and a few hours later we went in.
