Yes I’m taking dummies. DD didn’t take a dummy, we tried too late when she was a couple of weeks old, I’m determined to try from day 1 or 2 this time!

Cuppasoupmonster · 30/01/2023 14:04

@iratepirate i believe they reduce SIDS risk and basically keep baby happy by soothing them.

iratepirate · 30/01/2023 14:09

Ah, I see. I’m avoiding them as we’re hoping to breastfeed again and I know they can make that a lot trickier.

ChristmasJumpers · 30/01/2023 15:37

I've packed a couple of dummies in their packaging, does anyone know if they're sterile like that or I'll need to sterilise? This is all so new. I'm excited but wondering how on earth people organise themselves with no idea when they'll go into labour!!

That's interesting, I didn't give DS dummies til he was about 6 weeks old and he took to them straight away

Anyone up to date with covid "rules" stuff?
Looks like I may not get any pay at all for my last working week as they are saying cant go in for 5 days from date of test even though symptoms were from 2 days before. Only work a 4 day week meaning I may not be entitled to anything at all? Really crappy when about to go on maternity in a few weeks (AL first) and only get SMP I could've done with that last boost , not to mention it's very likely I picked up the illness from someone there.
I only tested because of hosp appt and the fact it's a risk in pregnancy.

I can try to see the positive side, that work is done!(except an online course I still have to do before mid feb) but it's a lot of money to lose when I need it and hoped to see it out, its not my fault someone's given me a virus! One day I won't rant so much but it's not that time yet 😂x

Katdemar · 30/01/2023 16:28

@AK93 can you ask to see your work's policy around Covid and returning to the work place?

Strictly speaking there is no legal requirement to self isolate for a certain period, but the guidance is such that if you have symptoms and/or temperature then you should not go into the workplace. Is there any chance for flexible working from home?

I would have thought that you should be entitled to sick pay at the very least.

Perhaps contact ACAS, they should be able to provide some assistance.

Blondewave · 30/01/2023 17:02

allthingssparkly · 30/01/2023 11:28

Very cheeky isn't he @TeddyBeans no he hasn't always been breech because at my 28 week midwife appt he was head down, so between then and my 33 week growth scan he decided to flip 🫣

ECV was mentioned at my 33 week scan and no doubt will be mentioned again next week to see if I want to go for it, however I think my answer will be no it's 60% effective, but comes with its risks and also baby can flip back breech even if they get him head down 🙈

Interesting - I’m 34 weeks and I’m having an elective due to prev shoulder dystocia. However my baby has been breech in some scans and then head down is others (I’m getting scans every two weeks as bump measures tiny and only 29 weeks but baby is off the charts big apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️ So makes no sense 😂🥴)

34 weeks and he still rolls all over the shop I know this as I feel his hiccups at different places all over my stomach. I was told they don’t need to worry about head down position till past 36 weeks as they can turn. How many weeks are you?

Blondewave · 30/01/2023 17:07

havanamama · 30/01/2023 13:54

Is anyone taking dummies to the hospital?

I keep hearing more and more people say that their baby didn't take dummies or only for a short period of time 4+ months old whilst teething etc

Yes I’m taking one even tho I’m planning to breastfeed. My last baby was like a little sucker fish and his suck reflex was so strong. My nipples blistered and bled as he just wanted to suck for comfort 24/7 also packed nipple shields this time incase I have another sucker 😂. He settled well with a dummy straight away x

havanamama · 30/01/2023 17:13

@Blondewave omg that sounds horrible! Bleeding! 🫣

Babynum2 · 30/01/2023 17:21

@Room4onemore @Cats23

Also another one wanting to be sterilised so I'm asking tomorrow at my midwife app .
I think I will have to fight and they might just tell me no because I'm due to have Csection and I'm only 28. This is my third time pregnant on contraception and all I can have is the coil due to my blood condition so I'm hoping they might listen on that side of things.

allthingssparkly · 30/01/2023 17:52

Hey @Blondewave 👋

I'm 35 weeks today 😊 baby is very active and it was only at my 33 week growth scan that he was presenting footling breach, prior to this he had been in the cephalic position.

Here's to hoping he's flipped by next Monday because I don't want to be discussing a possible c-section, however it may become out of my control and be my only option! We shall see.

The last policy was January last year it’s not been updated since or at least not aware if it had, deputy had to ring someone else to ask about the 5 days thing. I obviously understand not going in with symptoms or while positive and nothing I can do if so, however if I’m fine and negative then in theory I would be allowed at least one maybe two days if by symptoms so I don’t completely lose out. There’s no sick leave other than SSP which doesn’t count the first 3 days so would only get a day or twos worth, obviously if I was allowed to work it then that’s potentially 2 days actual pay! Basically I could have not tested then go in without telling anyone I had it but that’s irresponsible when there are people who could get seriously ill and I won’t do to them what’s apparently allowed to happen to me. You’re put in a position where your health is always at risk basically but when you do then get it you’re punished for it like you asked for it. Got a lot to be thinking about while bringing up baby!!

Can’t work from home other than maybe get submitted courses to do but they only pay for how long they take you to do and I’d be wasting a year on them all as I won’t be there to actually need them! I was originally going to take the Thursday and Friday this week as annual leave but too many people were already off so I agreed to work it and took the 2 days I had left earlier but I guess their rotas are all a bit messed up now (very sods law etc) and I’m shocked they haven’t said to do tests and can return if negative/symptom free.

@TeddyBeans you did good to finish work before the germs could finish your last bit of time off for you! I just about didn’t make it 🙈

Babynum2 · 30/01/2023 19:02

I used dummies and breastfed both mine they didn't use them much for the first 6 weeks but after that it was a very handy thing to have in evening when they want comfort. I got a Milton dummy steriliser they clip on to baby bag it's a little ball you can get them in boots or amazon.

TeddyBeans · 30/01/2023 20:53

I started on the baby blanket tonight, purely because I'm hopeful I won't have to be induced and would prefer to spend as much for early labour as I can in the bath 🤣

Looking good @TeddyBeans!

Can someone knock some sense into me.

Long story: Nursery still not done and I want to get the wardrobe built so I can wash babies clothes and put them away. DH is 6"5 and can reach the ceiling easily to fill and sand some cracks in it before painting. Thing is he is incredibly bad at it and the cracks are still there after 2 attempts (plus excess filler that he can't seem to see he hasn't fully sanded flat)
He refuses to let me climb a ladder and do it myself, but I'm the only one who will do it carefully and give it the time it needs, while he is happy with slap dash. I am being especially precious about the room being perfect but I just need it to be right. What the heck do I dooooo?! Very upset tonight as we're arguing about it 😣

Short story: DH is useless at DIY and making a botch job of filling and sanding cracks in the nursery ceiling but won't let me climb a ladder to get it done properly myself

Franklin321 · 30/01/2023 21:49

@ChristmasJumpers I’d probably just do it anyway 🙃 as long as you’re not doing anything ridiculously risky? Maybe he can stand at the bottom and support the ladder even more if he’s worried? I’ve been up and down to my attic using the slightly dodgy step ladder without issue!

TeddyBeans · 30/01/2023 21:51

@ChristmasJumpers does he go out for work? Hop up there when he's out and get it done lass! Failing that, call on a friend to get up the ladder for you. You won't be happy til it's done properly - I don't blame you, I've made DP redo things several times much to his annoyance - so don't back down on it or it'll annoy you forever!

OP posts:
ChristmasJumpers · 30/01/2023 21:51

We don't have a ladder and my mum agrees with him so won't lend hers. I feel like I'm in the olden days. So so frustrated!! He has booked tomorrow off work to paint but the walls aren't ready now 😒

beatingheartbaby · 30/01/2023 21:52

Looks good @TeddyBeans I started crocheting a blanket in dec and I'm still not done haha. I know I'm slow so started with plenty time 😂

havanamama · 30/01/2023 21:54

I got judged tonight by 3 close family members for saying that I'll try breastfeeding but if there's lack of supply, any bleeding, cracking, etc. that's putting me in pain, I'll without a doubt swap to formula.

🥲 i did share with them that I felt judged and that I understand the BF benefits, but believe fed is best and that formula is good enough to use as an alternative to not have to put myself through physical pain.

It's sad, but I am happy that conversation happened now rather than when I'm 1 week post partum, vulnerable, hormonal, and someone shares their strong opinions when visiting us. 😕
I'm going to have another conversation to say how I would like them to keep their strong opinions and unsolicited advice to themselves...

Blocklynn · 30/01/2023 22:02

My anxiety is playing up majorly at the moment. Had an awful day yesterday including a major panic attack.
Feel wiped out today.

@ChristmasJumpers my husband is a bodge it type person and it drives me crazy. If I can’t do whatever it is then I ask my dad as he’s a perfectionist with jobs.

@TeddyBeans your blanket looks good! I have finished off a rainbow garland today

Blocklynn · 30/01/2023 22:04

Why can’t we edit?! Forgot to add the garland…

@Blocklynn that looks amazing!!!

TeddyBeans · 30/01/2023 22:15

@Blocklynn it's so cute! Go you!

@beatingheartbaby I'm sure you'll get it done ❤️ and I bet it looks lovely!!

@havanamama as much as everyone is entitled to their opinion, you are also entitled to 1- tell them to naff off and 2- continue with your plan as it's a sensible one. There's nothing wrong with looking after yourself as well as baby! You're going to be baby's main carer, the happier you are the happier baby will be regardless of what milk gets put in their belly
