If you went into spontaneous labour...

How many weeks were you? Feel like all the birth stories I see online are c-sections and inductions. Curious what it's like for people who just go into labour at home one day (obv hoping this happens to me at some point before 40 weeks!)

40 weeks exactly. Funnily I refused to believe I was actually in labour on my due date until the contractions were thick and fast and I eventually conceded and went to hospital. My DM didn't believe me when we dropped DD1 off with her. DD2 arrived 2 hours after we got to hospital.

Kam610 · 21/01/2023 09:04

With my first I was induced at 36 weeks due to pre-eclampsia, with my second I went into spontaneous labour at 38+3 when my waters broke.

TheMumLife3 · 21/01/2023 09:09

40+10 on dc1 - sweep the day before
40+9 on dc2 - sweep 2 days before
Dc3 ended up in an induction at 40+13

Cric · 21/01/2023 09:10

40+6 with both my babies

Fifthtimelucky · 21/01/2023 09:18

39 + 5 (woke up at 2am when waters broke)
40 + 2 (planned home birth)

sleepymama3 · 21/01/2023 09:22

38 on my first. 4 days after a sweep. Had a glorious maternity massage that day and started overnight.

DNBU · 21/01/2023 09:24

It was on my due date, bouncing on a birthing ball, eating a curry!
My waters broke suddenly and contractions started a few hours later.

Greeneyegirl · 21/01/2023 09:30

Interesting thread to read. Im 39+2 and already the induction talk has started. I think it must be due to NHS and how busy they are so they want to control numbers in. Pretty much everyone i know currently pregnant is being booked for induction soon as they hit 40 weeks.

YouBoggleMyMind · 21/01/2023 09:33

39+3 and 40+2

thefemaleJoshLyman · 21/01/2023 09:37

In labour on due date with both DC, born the following day. Longish labour with DD although at home for all but last 2.5 hours, much shorter labour with DS but went in earlier (thought waters had gone) so in hospital 5 hours before he was born.

Did lots of walking on day before labour in both cases and cleaning.

handslikebirds · 21/01/2023 09:41

@Greeneyegirl that's the impression I've been getting so very grateful to all these responses to see a bit more anecdotal evidence of what's common. I think I'd rather go a bit over 40 weeks and see what happens than be induced as a first resort but I keep hearing about inductions and I have slightly minor risk factors so I'm worried the hospital will push me into this. Really reassured to hear how many people went into labour in 40th week

40 + 0 with first and 37+0 with 2nd

CloseYourMouthLynn · 21/01/2023 09:46

38+3
40+2
The wait with the second seems ages!

Greeneyegirl · 21/01/2023 09:49

@handslikebirds definitely. I'll only be induced if they give me a concrete medical reason when I'm 42 weeks

PumpkinsMum18 · 21/01/2023 09:50

Remember you can decline induction. Don’t let them push you into something you are not comfortable with

roarfeckingroarr · 21/01/2023 09:57

40+5, born 40+6.

I'm 39 today and wondering when baby 2 might make an appearance.

newtb · 21/01/2023 10:04

40

Mumto32022 · 21/01/2023 10:05

39+5
40 exactly
And third was a c section at 37+6

BooksAndHooks · 21/01/2023 10:07

One of mine was 38 weeks. The other two were two days before their due date. All on a Friday strangely.

I really shouldn't have engaged with this thread!! 😭😭

I went 41+3 with my first and those last few days/weeks were torture (though the birth itself was very straightforward). Now expecting baby number 2 and was desperately hoping that as my fanny now resembles a windsock, that it would surely fall out sooner?!? Apparently according to you fabulous bunch of women, second labours don't come earlier. How did I not know this 😱😱😱

Whaaaat? Second labours don't come earlier? I thought they did?

workschmerk · 21/01/2023 10:09

38+5

PumpkinDart · 21/01/2023 10:10

Due date with my eldest.
40+6 with my middle daughter and 41+1 with my son.

I've had 4 babies and my first came at due date then, 6 days over the last 2 8 days over (and the last was induction). So disappointing after my eldest was so punctual 😂

MissWings · 21/01/2023 10:12

I had 3 spontaneous labours at these points…

1st - 40+4
2nd - 40+1
3rd - 39+0

Eileen101 · 21/01/2023 10:20

40+4
39+6
