Hello! I just wondered if you could share your experiences.

Elective or emergency
What time you had your c section
if you went home the next day and if so what time
if not not the next day, how many days did you stay in for

I’d really appreciate any responses :)

I stayed in for five nights at local cottage hospital after first section and three nights for second. I definitely benefited from the extra rest and lack of distractions that I wouldn’t have had at home .

Adelais · 16/01/2023 17:09

My ELCS was at around 3:30pm and I went home about 8/9pm the following day.

MadamMaltesers · 16/01/2023 17:11

Had an elective c sec 7 weeks ago. Went in Tues 7am had the c sec around 1pm. Went home Thursday 7pm. I was waiting for bloods and meds.

StarDolphins · 16/01/2023 17:12

I had emergency c section & I went home the next day - probably because I kept asking!

Inastatus · 16/01/2023 17:13

For my first I stayed in for 2 days afterwards. For my second I was out the following day.

MistyQuigley · 16/01/2023 17:16

I had an unplanned c section 4am on the Friday morning and then came home 4pm on the Saturday, so one night in but around 36 hours after the op (they did begin the discharge process at 10am the next day, it just took until 4pm)

I had a (category-1) emergency c-section at 5am, and went home at noon the next day. This was in 2016.

I lost some blood (just under a litre) not enough for a transfusion, but enough for them to keep an eye. This sounds stupid but I just remember concentrating on making new blood that first day (to be fair, I hadn't slept for 48 hours aside from under anesthetic, so I was probably not my most sane self).

Sounds awful, but it wasn't - it worked like a well-oiled machine.

Within 2 mins of realising I'd need a section I was in theatre - everyone introduced themselves by name, and told me what they'd be doing.

When it transpired I'd need a category-1, they reintroduced their roles (everyone went down a role, and a senior consultant obstetrician and anesthetist joined the group to take charge).

I got a private room, and a day later I was home with my healthy baby. We were so lucky!

Just overnight with planned CS

pelargoniums · 16/01/2023 17:20

First baby EMCS at 7am Tuesday, went home Thursday evening after begging!

Second baby ELCS midday Friday, went home 3pm Saturday. Rapid recovery plan – those 24 hours are exhausting, though! Obs and meals and lactation team and hearing test and tongue tie clinic and physio and catheter removal and the wee test and this and that and the other, it’s non-stop – half of the relief of getting home is the chance to rest and not be bothered for five minutes at a time!

dustydewdrop · 16/01/2023 17:22

Emergency section near 20 years ago approx 1pm on a Monday. Home on the Friday. 4-5 days in hospital seemed to be standard back then.

Suprima · 16/01/2023 17:24

C section 11
out by request the next day at 2pm
was offered another night as I was still in pain

postnatal care was awful and my husband could look after me better

4thonthe4th · 16/01/2023 17:24

ELCS 1 - 10.17am, home lunch time the next day

ELCS 2 - 12.43 midday, home early evening the next day

ELCS 3 - 15.11pm, home lunch time the next day

alark · 16/01/2023 18:07

Emergency approx 11am, home the next day at around 5/6pm

BettyB0Op · 16/01/2023 18:21

2010 - 1st c-section Emergency Cat 1 - 5 days
2016 - 2nd c-section elected - less than 24 hours

Minibea · 16/01/2023 18:32

Crash section back in 2017 carried about at 9am l, went home two days later - about midday.

Elective section in 2021 (still in lockdown) baby born at 9:30am and was discharged about 2pm the following day.

BelleSauvage9 · 16/01/2023 18:33

Emergency section at approx 1pm on the Friday, was let home at about 5pm on the Saturday

PinkFizz1 · 16/01/2023 18:33

Emergency section at 12.30pm and home at 2pm the next day. They wanted to make sure I could odd after the catheter and my blood levels were okay as I lost more than normal but still out the next day.

sparklecrazy · 16/01/2023 18:34

Elective (twin birth both breach) I was in 5 nights. May or may not have been because twins were in SCBU.

SquigglePigs · 16/01/2023 18:36

Three nights after an elective section. DD was born on the Tuesday morning and we left Friday lunchtime. Initially they were going to discharge me on the Wednesday afternoon but my bladder didn't want to play ball after the epidural so ended up be re-catheterised for another 24 hours to give it a chance to settle down. Fortunately it got with the programme on the second attempt.

Greyhave · 16/01/2023 18:37

About 24 hours. If you don’t have a private room you’ll be dying to get out as soon as you can walk!

LetsDoThis2023 · 16/01/2023 18:42

Emergency- 3 nights
Planned - 1 night

canonlyhopexo · 16/01/2023 18:44

Emergency 2019 - was in for 6 nights. Went in 7am Saturday morning had c section 02.51am Sunday and was home 7pm Friday.

Having an elective this May and hoping to only be in a night or 2 max so watching with interest.

LeafHunter · 16/01/2023 18:46

Elective (due to medical condition) 6 weeks ago. In hospital for 5 nights.

lookslikeabombhitit · 16/01/2023 18:48

Emergency section for first at 7:30. Stuck in hell (post natal) for ten sodding days as DD was in and out of scbu. Obviously glad I could stay close to her but my god post natal is especially designed to torture mums.

Second emergency section at 10:30. Discharged myself 15 hours later. No way was I staying in post natal for a second longer than I had to.

Had third at home because I couldn't handle the idea of being in the hospital. 🙊

ShowOfHands · 16/01/2023 18:49

Both emcs. First born at 10pm and was discharged at 10am the next day so 12hrs all in. Second was born at 3.30pm and was discharged at lunchtime the next day (would have been earlier but it was a Sunday and v quiet).
