Hello! I just wondered if you could share your experiences.

Elective or emergency
What time you had your c section
if you went home the next day and if so what time
if not not the next day, how many days did you stay in for

I’d really appreciate any responses :)

Emergency - 5 nights (would have been 3/4 but I got an infection)

planned - 1 night. Recovery was so much quicker.

minidancer · 16/01/2023 18:57

Had 3 elective. Out in 24 hours or less

MaryBerrysCamelToe · 16/01/2023 18:57

I had twins by C-section at 11am and was discharged the following morning. It was fine, I felt great albeit a bit sore.

EleanorWigby · 16/01/2023 18:58

DC1, obvs first baby.
Emergency c-section at 1pm. Discharged at lunchtime 4 days later.

DC2, elective c-section. Had already stayed overnight in hospital as had some concerns about reduced movement. C-section at 1pm on Friday. Discharged 11am on Sunday.

CornishGem1975 · 16/01/2023 19:02

Elective or emergency: Emergency
What time you had your c section: 3.30am on Tuesday
if you went home the next day and if so what time/if not not the next day, how many days did you stay in for: Was required to stay in for 24 hours as giant baby and needed blood sugars checking etc but was out on Wednesday morning (ie as soon as they let me!) I was desperate to get out and would have gone on Tuesday night had they not made me stay in.

1st was an EMCS @7am. Discharged the next day at 4pm.
2nd was planned CS at 11am. Discharged the next day at 1pm!

Elyana · 16/01/2023 19:08

Had ELCS booked but went into labour early and ended up with a cat 1 EMCS. Delivery at 3.30pm discharged 4pm the following day.

roughoption · 16/01/2023 19:09

Emergency at 42 weeks.
Was allowed to leave exactly 24 hours from the time I went into theatre. I sat with bags packed waiting to go, midwife had paperwork all done and was waiting with us looking at the clock Grin

Pollywoddles · 16/01/2023 19:11

Elective and I stayed 5 nights but that’s common here in Ireland, at the hospital I was at the insist on a minimum of 3 days. I had a private room so was no hardship.

Morvena · 16/01/2023 19:11

Emergency c section on a Monday evening , got home around midday Wednesday.

Ragwort · 16/01/2023 19:18

EMCS ... stayed in six nights mainly because DS was not gaining weight, at that time (21 years ago) midwives were militantly pro BF which I wanted to do but struggled with in hospital, my DH had to get very assertive to allow us to use formula ... when I get home I established BFeeding easily. I have since read that babies born by CS can struggle with BFeeding in the early days.

Apart from the issue over feeding we were well treated and the hospital wasn't busy so I didn't really mind being there.

TableChair1 · 16/01/2023 19:20

Emergency and had to stay five days

wp65 · 16/01/2023 19:32

Had elective at 1pm and would have been discharged the following morning, but there were concerns about my baby, so had to stay in a second night (baby was fine thankfully). I was crushed to have to stay in an extra night - postnatal ward was hell!

YfenniChristie · 16/01/2023 19:46

I had an emergency c-section at 3am on a Friday, and was eventually discharged on Monday evening at around 8-9pm. I was kept in for a few days to make sure my blood pressure was under control and they had some concerns about DS's size (ever tried to get a urine sample from a newborn?!)

They wanted to keep us in for an additional day because DS had lost nearly ten percent of his birth weight - by this point I had a meltdown because post-natal wards are hell and I couldn't face staying any longer.

willithappen · 16/01/2023 19:56

Emergency c section and was home within 24 hours
We were rushed out that recovery room. I think because we were in and out hospital from 31st Dec to 3rd Jan in labour so busy period for them and they didn't have many beds.

Superfrog3 · 16/01/2023 20:05

Emergency - stayed in 7 days but that was because baby had an infection so was on antibiotics.

Failed induction- which resulted in csection baby was born just after midnight and I was out the next day.

Elective csection- went in at 7.30 am baby born by 9am and then went home tea time next day, was told that i could go home the same day and then was told in the morning but due to staffing nobody could sign my paper work off 😐

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/01/2023 20:24

Elective and 4 days. I gave birth on a Thursday afternoon. She fed fine then I let her sleep a long time and she stopped being able to feed so they wouldn't let me go until someone could help.

Heyahun · 16/01/2023 20:25

Home in 30hours (emergency)

Butwhytho · 16/01/2023 20:27

I had an elective C-section, op was done at 12:30pm Friday and I was up and about and feeling fine that evening. Unfortunately had to stay in two nights as DS didn’t poop 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was desperate to leave, I didn’t even want to stay one night and I would’ve been fine to go home to be honest. I think it was about 11am on the Sunday that I was finally allowed to leave 😅

SofiaAmes · 16/01/2023 20:30

I had an emergency CS (preceded by 40 hours of labor). I was supposed to stay for 5 days and checked myself out after 3 days because the hospital was so disgusting and dirty (blood all over the floors in the bathrooms that just never got cleaned) and everything was broken (no showers or emergency call button or curtains on the windows) and understaffed (2 people looking after 40 patients including 6 who had just had emergency CS's) and it just didn't seem wise or safe to stay there. (This was St.Mary's in London 22 years ago.)

Glitterheart · 16/01/2023 20:35

Category 3 C section (2015) stayed 2 nights
elective section (2018) stayed 2 nights but could have gone home after 1 night, chose to stay in for extra support with bf.
my mum was in for 2 weeks after her c section - that was 40 years ago!

Axolotl1 · 16/01/2023 20:54

Category 2 emergency (2015): 2 weeks, but this was due to premature baby.

Elective (2018) around 11am, home around 2pm the next day. I was determined to get home asap so asked to get the catheter removed and out of bed in the evening. Might have had to stay another night otherwise.

allgoodthings84 · 16/01/2023 20:55

Emergency section at 1.29pm and had to stay in for a minimum of 2 nights they told me. I don’t remember why but I lot went wrong and I got an infection so might have had something to do with it. They did tell me at the time why but I was pretty out of it at that point so just nodded along not taking much in

WooWooWinnie · 16/01/2023 20:55

Elective here…baby born at 9.30am, went home about 11am the next day.

GreenLeavesRustling · 16/01/2023 20:57

Elective section 4pm, home 4pm next day.
you have to show you are mobile and have wee’d and poo’d
that feeding is established and that the baby is having wet nappies
