C-Section - How long did you stay in for?

Hello! I just wondered if you could share your experiences.

Elective or emergency
What time you had your c section
if you went home the next day and if so what time
if not not the next day, how many days did you stay in for

I’d really appreciate any responses :)

I had an EMCS at 5am and got to go home 8pm the same day!! Very much an anomaly though as I was up and showering by 10am and begged to go home to my comfy bed!

Got2besoon · 16/01/2023 21:12

Emergency section 5am and out the next afternoon. But oh my god was I ready to leave. We had to hassle the nurses a little to get things done in time so we could go.

Snugglemonkey · 16/01/2023 21:21

My first one I was in 5 days. Not because of the section though, they did it so I was at the hospital my baby was in NICU. I lived far away, so they delayed my discharge to help me.

Second section was a breeze, I was out the door 24 hours and 10 minutes after my baby was born.

I didn't want either, but both were planned due to health reasons.

AnnaTortoiseshell · 16/01/2023 21:26

Had a planned section for DD2 and was ready for discharge within 20 hours (first thing the following morning) but discharge took all day and DD1 had to stay up past her bedtime for us getting back. It was fine, but a bit frustrating!

hiredandsqueak · 16/01/2023 21:27

When I had my ds it was six nights standard. I bribed the Doctor to discharge me after five days arguing had he been born at 11 am rather than 1pm I would have legitimately been released that day. Was like a different world in 1989, had a private room from admission the night before Csection was planned until discharge, nursery nurses available to bathe and feed baby overnight so you could rest.

Two nights. 2am Saturday emergency C-section. Home Monday afternoon. But it was due to requiring additional monitoring post birth due to pre-eclampsia. I would have been ok going home later the same night otherwise. Definitely by the next morning.

Elected..born 1503..I was out by 1400 the following day..too uncomfortable in hospital to stay any longer :)

Apollonia1 · 17/01/2023 00:38

I had a planned c-section at 10am on a Monday.
I went home on the following Saturday (5 nights in hospital).
I felt fine to go home the day after the c-section, but was delighted to stay in hospital to get shown the ropes, and the nurses took my twins at nighttime so I could sleep. I'd have stayed for a month if I could have!

PuzzleMonster · 17/01/2023 10:00

I had to ELCS and was home in less than 24 hours both times.

PuzzleMonster · 17/01/2023 10:00

Sorry, had to have two ELCSs.

kaylsd · 17/01/2023 10:02

I had my ELCS, was down for half 10 second on the list, home next day 11AM :)

willieversleepagain1 · 17/01/2023 10:04

I had an emergency c section just before midnight and left just under 24 hours later. It was my second one though, so not sure if that made any difference. I was also very very keen to get home so they probably sensed that!

Bowbellsx · 17/01/2023 10:04

I had a elective c-section at 4pm and got discharged the day after at 5pm x

LoveBluey · 17/01/2023 10:09

Semi elective at 7am, discharged following afternoon around 4pm (this was 5 years ago)

FrogInASock · 17/01/2023 10:15

I had a planned c-section but was already a long stay patient by then due to placenta praevia. So the nurses had already taken mercy on me and had me in a side room by myself. And I was allowed back to it after.
C-section was at 1pm Tuesday. And went home after morning ward round on Thursday. 2 nights in.

siroodlesofnoodles · 17/01/2023 10:20

1st baby in on Sunday at 07:00 failed induction, was given a c-section on Tuesday at 06:57 and was home Thursday at 16:00

2nd baby - in at 07:00 on the Friday to break my waters, this wasn't viable.. I was in theatre and had baby at 11:21. Home again around 16:00 on the Sunday. 🙂

BluIsTheColour · 17/01/2023 12:51

Emcs 6 days 5 nights section at 1am. Long labour and both husked and bath were unwell. Had to stay in for antibiotics.

Planned section but ended up an (semi) emcs as waters broke early, I stayed 2 days 1 night. She was born at 11am I got out 8pm next night. They wanted me to stay another and I should have but I went home with a catheter in. I couldn't face another night in there!

xprincessxjanetx · 17/01/2023 20:25

24 hours with both my emergency and elective.

WoolyMammoth55 · 17/01/2023 20:39

ELCS in 2021. In at 7am for covid swabs in the car park :)
Got swapped to 2nd in surgery as other mumma had complications - into theatre about 12 noon.
DH and I got left alone with bub in the recovery room until 7pm - I think a lovely, lucky oversight!
Then he went home and I got the last bed on the packed maternity ward.
I don't like hospitals so had asked to go home ASAP. The MWs helped me to get out of bed before midnight. Catheter out at 6am. Discharge paperwork started at 10am, got the all-clear for DH to collect us at 2pm.
Ward was busy and loud but MWs were excellent, I was well taken care of, but had no desire to stay.

DestinysGrandchild · 17/01/2023 20:40

A night

lavenderfine · 17/01/2023 20:43

First was an emergency, in for 4 days afterwards due to some complications and DS had jaundice and needed the phototherapy.
Second elective, section at 10am and was home by 12pm next day.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 17/01/2023 21:00

Emergency-4 nights
Elective- 3 nights

27 & 25 years ago.

Newname33 · 17/01/2023 21:05

Emcs at just gone midnight Thursday, home lunch time Saturday.

Rhiamumof3 · 19/01/2023 00:46

I had an emergency section jst when covid came into play. I was so worried we were gonna get it I begged to leave the same day! I jst wanted to be at home with my 2 boys and my husband with our new arrival. But looking back I wasn't ready and should have stayed longer than 18 hours 🤷

escapingthecity · 19/01/2023 00:50

Labour started at 5am Tue
EMCS at 3am Wed.
Discharged at 4pm Thu.
I would have the hospital at 5pm if not discharged - the postnatal ward was hot and noisy and awful. The only reason it took so bloody long was that they lost my first blood sample and I needed an iron infusion.
