Hello ladies
I'm 44 and had 4 previous miscarriages..... Found out last wk I'm pregnant and incredibly anxious after so many losses and my age. Lack of symptoms aren't helping besides the stretching twinges.

Is anyone joining me in this journey?

Hi all! Can I ask some advice. Current 7+6 with my 4th pregnancy. First pregnancy was ds and my last 2 were miscarriages so in my head I can only think of bad news. I had a reassurance scan on Friday there which showed everything in place and a fetal pole measuring to date with a heartbeat but when I looked at the gestational sac I noticed it was an odd shape and the midwife didn’t seem bothered but asked me did I have fibroids or endometriosis because the sac is irregular. I’ve asked for another scan in 2 weeks and the midwife said oh it’ll be more exciting as more will be seen. Should I be worried? Every time I google it people are saying it’s the start of the sac collapsing and the pregnancy becoming unviable. I even stopped taking my anti sickness meds to see if I still had symptoms and I started vomiting again. Has anyone had anything like this before?

pinkpirlie · 22/01/2023 15:13

@Houseelf90 the issue inspection is real- I even went so far of using a tampon today to see if that got anything on it. My anxiety is so high.

@CaliGirl47 I got the 3+ on CBD and it didn't settle my mind for more than 24 hours unfortunately. I wish it had had more impact on my anxiety.

I was talking to a friend today who has also had a long fertility journey with MC and IVF failures, (she now has a little 2 yo) and we were saying how things were just so much easier in the past when tests were much less accurate and there was no internet to become Dr Google.

@Tinkerbell098 good luck with your scan!

@HopefulBee that chart is really helpful, thank you

@StayWeird I'm so glad it isn't just me having symptoms on and off. It is really making my anxiety worse as I will have a day with significant symptoms and then nothing the next day, makes me so worried it means the end of the pregnancy. I'm really trying to focus on that being normal, but it is just so hard.

@Vwswimmer1 totally agree about the people who have never had a previous loss, and how it must generally be a lot less anxious.

Mannymoomin · 22/01/2023 15:18

Thank you everyone, I feel really deflated tbh, had a mc in September at 7 weeks, took af 6 weeks to return then conceived this one on the 2nd cycle so I can’t help but think it’s not meant to be. Bleeding got much heavier overnight and it’s now like full on AF so I expect tests will be negative in a few days. Once is bad enough but twice in a row 💔

Blueskies4 · 22/01/2023 15:36

@Mannymoomin so sorry you’re going through this, sending love.

@Luna57 if the midwife was unconcerned I’d try and focus on that, I know easier said than done once you’ve googled but then internet’s so full of misinformation, and in this case the expert has the positive take on it x

Blueskies4 · 22/01/2023 15:38

Has anyone been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic? I got referred in November and have just got an appointment through for Feb, however I’m 4 weeks today… wondering whether to keep my appointment/whether it’s a call to the GP to discuss x

Houseelf90 · 22/01/2023 17:26

@pinkpirlie 🤣🤣 sounds like the kind of thing I’d do!!

@Luna57 I don’t have any experience of this so can’t massively help you, but I would think if the midwife wasn’t concerned, and was happy to wait 2 weeks for another scan, plus mentioned more would be seen, then it shouldn’t be too much of an issue (I know, easier said than done and I know we are all anxious so anything worries us)

Houseelf90 · 23/01/2023 08:59

Well, 8 days after finding out I have finally registered that I am pregnant with the hospital/maternity unit! Feel like I am tempting fate and something will happen now 😔

For those of you that have had early scans with the NHS, have you been offered them or asked for them? I was going to call the EPU today and ask, but it does say on the website you can self refer after 3 losses, I’ve had 2 so I’m not sure they will offer anything? Any help or information appreciated 😊

CaliGirl47 · 23/01/2023 09:21

Good morning all. ☀️Thanks for all your support yesterday ladies. I really appreciate it. Especially that chart @HopefulBee that was really good thanks. 👍🏼

I haven’t been referred to the recurrence miscarriage clinic myself as I have had 2 miscarriages and not three. @Blueskies4 I do hope they can offer you some support during your current pregnancy. It’s worth asking. Wishing you all the best.

@Houseelf90 I totally know what you mean. I feel like the more I talk about this pregnancy or tell others it becomes more real and more scary to lose. But we’ve got to live in hope 🌈

And I always feel like even if the worst was to happen I’d rather the pregnancy be on record with GP. And this little life being recorded that it was here and it was real. And being on medical record can be helpful especially since they will only start offering investigations after 3 miscarriages. That’s just my personal opinion but I totally get why some people might feel differently.

I have an early scan booked in two weeks with the hospital I had my previous mc at. I got out my paperwork from my mmc and called up the phone number for the bereavement midwife and explained my situation and asked if they could offer me any support in my current pregnancy. I was having quite a low day so it was nice just to relay my feelings and anxiety to someone specifically trained to support. I found everyone very kind and helpful. She didn’t guarantee that they could do scans. So it might not be possible everywhere depending on availability. But I figured if you don’t ask, then you don’t get. 🤷🏻‍♀️

how are you feeling @Tinkerbell098 has your sore throat eased off? My go to is usually honey and lemon or fresh ginger boiled in water with some honey. When I had the flu in December I was taking loads of Sambucol elderberry syrup for my immune system. And actually fell pregnant whilst I had the flu 🙈 I’m not sure if it’s recommended in pregnancy, but a pharmacist might know. I felt it really helped to boost my immune system. But I haven’t been taking any since I found out I’m pregnant.

Luna57 · 23/01/2023 09:31

Thanks for the reassurance @Blueskies4 and @Houseelf90. Miscarriages really rip the happiness of new pregnancies away from you.

@Houseelf90 i phoned epu and asked for a scan, I just said during my last miscarriage the midwife told me to book in for a reassurance scan and they said no problem they normally do the scans between 7 & 8 weeks. How far along are you? I’m 8 weeks today and haven’t registered myself to get a 12 week appointment I want to wait and see what my scan says next week. With my first miscarriage my appointment came in the day I started bleeding so I’m gonna try and push it as long as I can 😂

Ella1211 · 23/01/2023 09:36

Hi, ladies. I so understand the fear of sharing the pregnancy with others. I also feel that it would somehow have a negative impact...

I have an early scan today and I'm terrified... I've been experiencing some tummy and back menstrual like pain and I am quite stressed... as the scan approaches I am more and more anxious and pessimistic...

Houseelf90 · 23/01/2023 09:46

@CaliGirl47 and @Luna57 it’s so difficult to know what to do isn’t it. The first one I lost, I had registered online the day before I started bleeding. I called EPU and they recorded it as a loss, but I then got a text from the midwife the next week asking how many weeks I was. I then had 2 further occasions with hospital appointments (unrelated) where they questioned me as the system said I was pregnant 😔 it was awful.
The second one I didn’t register but I did call EPU when I started bleeding so the nurse I spoke to added it to my record.

I will try and speak to EPU today, the worst they can do is say no and I shouldn’t be embarrassed to ask!

@Ella1211 bless you; we will be thinking of you. Is your partner coming to the scan with you?

Houseelf90 · 23/01/2023 09:48

I’ve put my big girl pants on and left a message for EPU, so we shall see what they say when they call back 🤞🏼🤞🏼

CaliGirl47 · 23/01/2023 09:58

Oh that’s so upsetting I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. @Houseelf90 I completely understand. In the past I have signed up for the Emma’s diary type emails or pampers where they give you week by week updates on your pregnancy. And there’s nothing worse than trying to cope with the emotional fallout of a mc and still receiving those blooming emails. It’s a real kick in the pants. I do hope the EPU offers you some support and a reassurance scan 🤞🏻

Thinking of you and your scan today @Ella1211 I really hope it all goes well. How far along are you? I’ve had bouts of cramping and back pain this week. I think it can just be everything stretching and growing. As long as it’s not accompanied by pain or bleeding it’s not usually considered a cause for alarm. I do hope today’s scan brings you lots of reassurance and hope. 🌈

Ella1211 · 23/01/2023 10:00

@Houseelf90 fingers crossed. Really hope they come back with a positive answer! The uncertainty is the worst.

I'm going alone by choice. Tbh I don't feel at all like sharing the experience until I know for sure there is a pregnancy. I really need to hear a heartbeat before I can even start to think I'm really pregnant.

Ella1211 · 23/01/2023 10:06

@CaliGirl47

Thanks 🤗. I should be around 6 weeks. I read the same as you said, that it can be normal. But I'm quite paranoid about any feeling in my body... I struggle to stay rational as I feel assuming the worse is a protection mechanism... but I should have a clearer picture in about 3 hours.

R184 · 23/01/2023 10:52

Hi all - I’m also due in September and had a mmc September last year. I’m so anxious and all the nausea is been having the last 2 weeks has now vanished. I’m 7 weeks and have an early scan booked for Friday. Just seems so far away and I just need to know now if everything’s ok 😔

Tinkerbell098 · 23/01/2023 11:46

@Ella1211 good luck for the scan today. Thinking of you X

@CaliGirl47 thanks, still feeling a bit rough. Yea, I've been having fresh ginger and honey tea, and managing to control it a little bit. Hope I'm well enough to go for the scan tomorrow. Still feeling so so nervous about it.

Ella1211 · 23/01/2023 12:04

Not ok for me. I will leave the group as it is too painful. Wish you all ladies happy pregnancies

Houseelf90 · 23/01/2023 12:09

@Ella1211 I’m so sorry 💔

Ella1211 · 23/01/2023 12:46

Thanks. Really hope it's not ectopic. As test got like this from 1st minute. I'll have to track my hcg now... Best of luck to you.

Due September 2023 after miscarriage 🌈
Tinkerbell098 · 23/01/2023 12:55

@Ella1211 oh no! What happened at the scan? Are they running any bloods for you to get a clear picture? I’m so sorry X

Houseelf90 · 23/01/2023 12:57

EPU called me back and unfortunately I can’t get any early scans, unless my midwife agrees to an early dating scan (when I am assigned a midwife).
Now just trying to decide whether to pay for an early scan or not as I know if it’s not good news I’ll feel like I’ve wasted the money, but on the other hand I’m not sure I can carry on for the next 7 weeks not knowing what’s happening!

CaliGirl47 · 23/01/2023 13:08

I’m so sorry @Ella1211 😔💔 please look after yourself

CaliGirl47 · 23/01/2023 13:13

Aw man. That’s disappointing. But at least you tried @Houseelf90 I know what you mean. It is a lot of money. With my mmc I only found out because I’d booked a private scan. So even thought it was incredibly disappointing and heartbreaking I still feel like it wasn’t a mistake because it helped me to realise what was happening and start the grieving process. I found a deal on Groupon for that scan and I used a discount code so I got it down to £20 which was such a deal. It’s worth having a look on Groupon if you do want to book a scan near you. They have some deals sometimes. X

Houseelf90 · 23/01/2023 15:31

@CaliGirl47 thank you, I’ve had a quick look and can’t find any deals near me. The cheapest one I can get locally is £80. I think I might do some more tests and see how I get on. Other half initially said it’s not worth it and the dating scan will soon be here, but when I said “just 7 weeks more of stress for me” he then changed his mind and said we’d get one if it will help me. I’m going to have a think about it this week and see how I feel if I’ve not bled by the weekend!
