Hello ladies
I'm 44 and had 4 previous miscarriages..... Found out last wk I'm pregnant and incredibly anxious after so many losses and my age. Lack of symptoms aren't helping besides the stretching twinges.

Is anyone joining me in this journey?

@CaliGirl47 in my area the EPU see you until 14 weeks and then it’s over to the maternity assessment unit, I’m not sure if its the same everywhere though.

I hope this helps but with my daughter I had brown discharge on and off throughout and some bleeding around 15/16 weeks unexpectedly and all was fine. I don’t think they can necessarily pinpoint what it is can they, but they said likely changes to the cervix which happens throughout pregnancy. Sex can irritate it too.

Sending love, any amount of discharge/ blood is stressful x

Houseelf90 · 23/03/2023 09:02

@CaliGirl47 what a worry for you, I hope you manage to speak to the right person and get the reassurance you need. At my booking in appointment my midwife gave me the maternity helpline number and said to call them if I have any bleeding or excessive pain, have you got a number for them at all? There’s someone there 24/7 so you should be able to contact them if you can’t get your midwife xx

kl1999 · 23/03/2023 09:55

@Blueskies4 @CaliGirl47 @HopefulBee @Houseelf90 Thanks all. Will keep you posted on how it goes 🌷

I've woken up today with a horrible cold, completely floored me. I haven't felt this tired in a few weeks. I don't know how I'm at work right now, but I am.

@CaliGirl47 Oh my love. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤ As a few of the others have mentioned, brown tends to be old blood. Have you had any cramps or anything? Or just the brown discharge on it's own? It's normal and human to panic and have your thoughts automatically jump to the worst possible outcome - but try and remain positive. A lot of women do experience this, and although it seems "not normal" to, I think it happens to a lot more women than we know. I don't have much experience with EPU, or even the hospital in regards to this type of situation. It's a real shame that your GPs midwife seems pretty crappy, as that would have been my first suggestion for you. There's no harm in trying to contact the midwife/GP, I would like to think they would treat your concerns appropriately and do whatever they need to, to give you some reassurance and some answers. Please keep us updated, we are all here for you xxx

Tinkerbell098 · 23/03/2023 10:34

@CaliGirl47 sorry you are going through this, but as others have already said, brown is not a cause for concern. How much is it? Has it stopped now? I had brown discharge at around 9-10 weeks and all was fine and stopped within a couple of days. The EPU in my area see you up to 16 weeks, so worth giving them a ring? Sending all positive vibes your way X

CaliGirl47 · 23/03/2023 12:09

Hi girls. Thanks so much for your kindness. 💐 I must admit it really sent me into a panic seeing that first thing this morning. 😰 I tried ringing EPU but it was a busy signal. And I’d already planned a busy day out and about today. So instead of moping at home and working myself up I’ve just decided to keep my plans and keep myself busy today. Thankfully it seems to have eased off and it was only that one time whilst wiping. I also don’t have any cramps or pain either, which I’m taking as a positive 🙏🏻 I think I might’ve felt baby moving a bit this morning so that was helpful as well. I’m just going to keep one eye on it and try not to panic. It’s probably something that has nothing to do with baby but more to do with my cervix. DH and I dtd the other day and maybe it’s possible that or some bowel movements could have irritated my cervix. (Sorry for TMI) 🙈 just trying to think of rational reasons and really hope it doesn’t turn into anything more. 🤞🏻 Hope everyone else is okay. 💗

Houseelf90 · 23/03/2023 12:11

@CaliGirl47 great positive thinking, I hope you’re enjoying your day out!

CaliGirl47 · 23/03/2023 12:13

So sorry to hear about your cold. @kl1999
Nothing worse than trying to work when all you want to do is go to bed 🤧🤒🥱 I do hope you feel better soon. So hard when you can’t take much medicine either 💊 Lots of honey and lemon is the way forward. Last time I had the flu my friend made me a really delicious chicken soup with carrots and ginger and noodles. I felt like a new person afterwards. Hopefully you can get some rest and nourishment and be back to feeling better soon. X

HopefulBee · 23/03/2023 12:38

@Blueskies4 Nice that you also plan to find out the gender. Hope your appointment on Tuesday goes well and that time flies for you until then.

@CaliGirl47 I totally agree regarding the bonding once you know the gender. I really enjoyed knowing with my first and my partner and I started referring to her by her name from the 20 week mark. It made me feel like we knew her when she arrived which was lovely.

I’m so sorry you had a scare this morning. I know exactly how that feels, a few weeks ago I had some pink discharge and freaked out immediately. Heart pounding, immediate panic. I think we relive our experiences from the mc very quickly unfortunately. For me it was probably due to vigorous exercise and it sounds logical that it might have been dtd or bowel movement for you. My midwife mentioned those as possible reasons for light bleeding as well. And it’s not uncommon at all in the second trimester. Sending hugs and hope you feel better keeping yourself busy and with no more brown discharge.

RMS0209 · 23/03/2023 14:12

@CaliGirl47 great speech from you yesterday 🥰❤️

Hope you are feeling ok now, what a scare you must have got this morning. I have a small hematoma so I had bleeding a few times but I got scanned and all was ok... but if you have been dancing it could just be irritation from that

Have a great day x

Thanks my lovely. Trying to keep my fluids up but just feel very blah 🤢 Never nice being unwell, but I've found being unwell in pregnancy really wipes me out!

Honey and lemon sounds fab, will have to get some - thank you ❤

Glad to hear you've not experienced any cramps or any further bleeding. My midwife did say to me last week that sex can cause bleeding, so could very well have been down to that. It's super important to keep yourself busy and I'm glad you carried on with your plans. Enjoy the rest of your day xx

Take it easy and know we are all here for you 🌷💕

Tinkerbell098 · 23/03/2023 16:24

@CaliGirl47 glad you are feeling positive now. DTD can definitely irritate cervix and cause discharge. Hope you enjoy the rest of the day X

kl1999 · 23/03/2023 16:55

Ladies, can I please pick your brains.

Did any of you have to provide a negative covid test before having your scan? Did you have to wear masks? May seem daft, but my trusts website has clearly not been updated since early last year and they mention it. When speaking to the hospital on the phone earlier this week, they never mentioned anything at all though. Neither did my midwife.

Just curious what your experiences were..

I feel like I keep looking for things to go wrong, really don't know why. Guess it must just be nerves!!

TIA xxx

I didn't need to do a Covid test but had to wear a mask when in the hospital. My hospital does provide masks though

CaliGirl47 · 23/03/2023 19:13

Thanks all for your being there for me. I really appreciate it. Things seem to have settled down and I’ve had no more discharge. Still not feeling baby move as much as a few days ago. But I’m hoping he’s just found a snug new hiding place where I can’t feel him quite so much. 💗

@kl1999 All the best for your scan tomorrow. 🌼🌷🌼 I hope it brings you lots of reassurance and healing. And I hope you get some sleep tonight. I was a wreck the night before my scans. I think what you’ve read on the website is probably old information. I haven’t heard anything about testing before appointments. I wore a mask to all of my hospital appointments so far but I would say I was in the minority. Hospital staff were wearing masks but most other patients weren’t.

Blueskies4 · 24/03/2023 07:16

@kl1999 thinking of you today and hoping for a lovely positive scan xx

kl1999 · 24/03/2023 08:50

@CaliGirl47 @Pandalovee Thanks both. When I got home, the scan letter had been delivered. Doesn't mention anything about testing or masks. I will wear a mask personally, for my own safety, plus I have a bad cold, which I'm sure nobody else would want to catch!

@Blueskies4 @CaliGirl47 Thank you for your well wishes. I am feeling sick with nerves right now. Wish the appt was this morning, at least I wouldn't be stressing the whole day then! I will of course keep you updated on how things go, hoping for the best but expecting the worst xxx

Hope you all are feeling good and well - happy Friday 🌷❤
