Hello ladies
I'm 44 and had 4 previous miscarriages..... Found out last wk I'm pregnant and incredibly anxious after so many losses and my age. Lack of symptoms aren't helping besides the stretching twinges.

Is anyone joining me in this journey?

@Blueskies4 congratulations on seeing your beautiful little wriggly baby today. 💜

@Astar21 smells are really strange one. I cannot stand the smell of vimto and used to live off it. Black coffee is fine, but not milky coffee. Bleach 🤢

My nausea has been better since I had cyclizine for 10 days now. I was really poorly yesterday morning though, even though I'd taken a tablet.
My abdomen pain is getting worse. I was just talking to my friend and she thinks it could be pelvic girdle pain based on my description but I'm not sure as it's only on either side of my public bone and nowhere else.

My breast pain has turned to breast and nipple pain, which I hope is a sign that things are progressing okay. My skin is also getting worse and worse. Never had acne as a teenager but my chin and back is covered in sore spots.

12 week scans must be coming up for lots of us. Exciting to be seeing lots of little wriggly babies.
Mine is in 11 days.
However still not had or even have a date for my booking in. Reckon I will get to 40 weeks before they realise they didn't do me. At least had the bloods done.

CaliGirl47 · 06/03/2023 08:16

Congratulations on your scan @Blueskies4 it’s so lovely to see them so active. So pleased it went well. 👶🏼🌈✨

my nausea has been on and off these past few days. Which is equal parts a relief and also anxiety inducing. 😅 Some days I feel fine and could almost forget I was pregnant, and then other days I’m fully being sick 🤢 So I’m hoping it’s normal that it’s starting to trail off now.

I’ve got my NHS dating scan this afternoon even though I’m only 11+2 so I fully expect them to tell me to come back in a week for NT screening. Which is fine with me 😁 it will just be nice to check on baby. But on my appointment letter it says my appointment should take approximately 4 hours 🫣 so I’m starting to panic about timing my water intake and wetting myself before the scan 😂

Hope everyone is having a good day. 🌼

Blueskies4 · 06/03/2023 08:23

@CaliGirl47 ah hope you have a lovely scan ❤️

Thanks for your messages! Can I get a bit of advice given you all know how all of this feels… so the scan reassurance lasted all of 2 days and now I’m worrying again about baby measuring smaller.. despite the sonographer saying she was unconcerned/reassuring me about the size I can’t get out of my head that what if growths slowing.. my dating scan isn’t until 13+4, I’m thinking of booking another private scan this weekend or next as it’s over 3 weeks away - would you ladies do it or am I driving myself mad?

Houseelf90 · 06/03/2023 09:08

Good luck for your scan @CaliGirl47! 4 hours!! Blimey! Hopefully they’ll do the scan first so you can pee and then do the other bits!

Luna57 · 06/03/2023 10:47

@CaliGirl47 i didn’t have a full bladder for mine because I forgot to do a urine test til I got there and all was seen ok. You could bring a bottle of water with you. They normally scan before hand. Here in NI we only have dating scan at 12 weeks and booking in together we don’t have the booking in at 8 weeks like I’ve read here that happens in England. My appointment lasted 2 hours.

Tinkerbell098 · 06/03/2023 11:09

@CaliGirl47 good luck for your scan today! As @Luna57 said, don't worry too much about filling yourself up. I think the baby is big enough to see clearly now even on a half full bladder. I didn't even get through a 500 ml bottle, as I was early for the appointment, so took water with me to sip slowly until they took me in. But they took me in straightaway, so doubt I was all filled up. They had no issues.

@Blueskies4 3 days is nothing at that stage! I measured 2 days behind at the 9 week scan, but caught up by the 12 week scan. Baby being so active is a big positive. I wouldn't worry too much (I know it's hard not to and I'll probably be the same). Good luck X

Houseelf90 · 06/03/2023 11:57

I’ve just had another appointment come through with someone from the Obstretics team. My midwife did say she would refer me due to a heart condition I have so I think it’s to do with that.
Has anyone else had or having one of these? Any idea how long the appointment is likely to last? I know they can’t use it against you but I am worried about annoying work with having to take time off for appointments as this is going to be less than 2 weeks after my 12 week scan! Still; it can’t be helped and I’m sure they’ll be supportive but I do worry about things like this (I actually get on with my manager and senior manager really well so I shouldn’t feel so anxious about it really)

pinkpirlie · 06/03/2023 12:03

@Blueskies4 all my scans have given completely different due dates, sometimes going backwards. I think different machines, baby positions, sonographers, etc. all impact on the measurement. They are so tiny at this stage a couple of mm can make days' worth of difference on age. Really try not to worry, but if you need the reassurance and you can afford it, take another scan. There is nothing worse than feeling anxious on top of all the other pregnancy symptoms.

@CaliGirl47 hope everything goes well at your scan today. I assume if they can't see baby they will still do an internal scan at this stage? My private scan at 10w they couldn't see anything externally at all as my womb tilts so much. I'm really interested to see if this will change by my dating scan.
When I was at EPU they did my scan and then I saw the nurse/midwife after in a different bit of the hospital. So hopefully you can do the scan bit and then empty bladder early on.a

It's so exciting everyone starting to have their dating scans.

Goneaboutthiswrong · 06/03/2023 12:21

Hey everyone, sorry I’ve been a bit quiet, I’ve seen secretly panicking. I have been bleeding since 28/01 as I have a subchorionic hematoma. The bleeding faded until about 2 weeks ago then came back red so I started to worry again. I’m happy to say I had my 12 week scan today (I’m 13wks 3days) and baby is fine and moving about happily regardless of the bleed. The sonographer said I may continue to bleed as it’s quite close to my cervix, frustrating but I’m happy to know baby is all good!
Just thought I’d update as I know everyone has a little worry every now and again, so I hope this fills someone with a little hope.
can’t wait to hear about everyone’s latest scans xx

Houseelf90 · 06/03/2023 12:35

@Goneaboutthiswrong thats amazing news, I’m so pleased for you! It’s such a worrying time anyway isn’t it, let alone when you start bleeding! Hopefully you can worry a little less now 🥰

Tinkerbell098 · 06/03/2023 12:54

@Houseelf90 I too have a mild heart condition, so my midwife has referred me to someone. When I went for my 12 week scan, they booked me in for a phone appointment at the end of March. Is yours face to face? I wouldn't worry too much about taking time off for appointments, as you are entitled to all this and no one's going to bat an eyelid.

@Goneaboutthiswrong amazing news! Hope it's reassured you now and you can relax X

Houseelf90 · 06/03/2023 13:17

@Tinkerbell098 thank you, I don’t know why I worry as I’m sure they’ll be fine and it’s tough if they’re not really! Yes my appointment is face to face, it’s strange how each trust does things differently isn’t it! I had my booking in appointment over the phone but so far all other appointments I have are face to face!

HopefulBee · 06/03/2023 14:13

@CaliGirl47 All the best of luck for today! They did my last scan externally at only 9+5 and as I didn’t expect it I had gone for a wee just before. They could see everything fine. I wouldn’t fill myself up to the brim, it’s just so uncomfortable and chances are they will see fine anyway. 🤗

@Goneaboutthiswrong oooh fantastic news! First dating scans coming in, how exciting. How are you feeling now? Are you feeling more reassured at 13+3 and getting ready to share the news? I have my dating scan this Wednesday but think I will wait till after the blood test results come in and then share. Can’t wait.

Goneaboutthiswrong · 06/03/2023 14:44

Thank you everyone!

@Houseelf90 I’ve also got an obstetrics appointment in about 3 weeks time, I think mine is due to previous back problems and current complications in this pregnancy. Mine is also face to face.

I am going to try and worry a little less, it’s like every scan I have I’m completely silent with fear and for the morning beforehand too! I’m very lucky my partner asks all the relevant questions I’ve been firing at him for weeks now 😂

@HopefulBee yes, I’m going to wait for my results before sharing the news. And I’m going to inform work when I’m about 16 weeks. Has anyone else told their workplace? Or if not, when do you plan to?

Houseelf90 · 06/03/2023 14:51

@Goneaboutthiswrong I told my manager last week, the day before my first midwife appointment, mainly to make it easier to get time off for my appointments, but she also knew I had lost pregnancies in the past so o felt comfortable sharing with her, I’d rather her know and be understanding if anything did go wrong!

Tinkerbell098 · 06/03/2023 15:19

@Goneaboutthiswrong I'm also planning to tell work around the 16 week mark. I think I'll probably start showing by then anyway (already feel like I've got a high bump)!

Tinkerbell098 · 06/03/2023 15:22

Anyone got any tips on what to do about sore nipples? Mine are so bad now, wearing a bra is near impossible! I work from home most of the time, so I'm braless half the time, which helps haha!

HopefulBee · 06/03/2023 16:19

@Goneaboutthiswrong i think I’m going to tell my closest colleagues once I have the results, so at around 13 weeks. Am not in a rush to make it known to everyone else at work, but I imagine they’ll figure it out soon. 16 weeks is also when I told everyone at work last time.

@Tinkerbell098 have you tried wearing those really soft bras that you also wear when breastfeeding? Maybe they feel better. Hopefully the pain eases soon, I don’t remember it hurting past the first trimester with my daughter.

@Blueskies4 how many scans did you do so far? Im not sure how much it matters, I think it’s not clear what the effect of frequent ultrasounds is on babies, but usually they don’t recommend to do too many. I’ve had one at 7, one at 9 and now one at 11 weeks, and I know they’ll do an anatomy scan at 13 weeks, so that’s 4 in the first 13 weeks! My midwives are not concerned about that at all. Hope that helps a bit to make the decision. Nothing worse than worrying the whole time is there?

00Bubbles00 · 06/03/2023 16:31

HI all, I am SO PLEASED there are so many lovely scan results coming through. I am sorry I have been quiet. I have been coping with general worry about this little bean by trying to keep super busy (I work full time and have two tiny humans so that is unfortunately fairly easy). I've been feeling unbelievably tired - much more so than in my prior pregnancies. I had a scan today as I am doing the Harmony test (I'm 39) - baby measuring 10 +5 - bouncing around a lot. I am acutely aware that at my age the risk for chromosomal issues are much higher so I definitely am not celebrating or feeling like there is anything certain about this one until I'm through the 12 week NT scan and have the NIPT results back. It a weird feeling of deliberately not trying to think about the future whilst also counting the days until the 12 week scan/NIPT results come back.

I had my booking in last Friday and they have referred me to a consultant because I was in a Zika country over New Year. I feel fairly relaxed about it as where we were doesn't have any recent cases as far as I can tell from Google (it didn't occur to either of us to think about Zika - which is silly in hindsight!). I can't wait until this group is over the 12 week mark and we can all start to relax a little bit! Good luck to everyone with upcoming scans (and FWIW, I've always been told that beyond 8 weeks you don't need a full bladder. It is needed for the early scans as it pushes the bowel away and the ultrasound moves more easily through liquid so they can pick up the tiny embryo but once bigger not needed!).

pinkpirlie · 06/03/2023 16:37

Wonderful news @Goneaboutthiswrong the bleeding must have been causing a lot of anxiety so it is great that you've had some reassurance today and had a wonderful scan experience.

I've been telling friends as I see them since 4 weeks. Told my manager at 6.5 weeks as I had several appointments and had been very poorly. But I haven't told my team yet as I haven't seen them in person yet. We are going in to the office next week so will tell them then probably.

@Tinkerbell098 I only wear crop top style bras for years and years now so not sure if that helps as boobs are quite free but still supported a little. My nipples do hurt, but only once I have taken the bra off for bed.
I got them from peacocks - I also threw away the padding so they are just the stretch material.

Houseelf90 · 06/03/2023 16:56

@pinkpirlie glad there’s someone else like me telling a few friends! I think I’ve told 5 friends so far but they are all people that would support me if the worst was to happen, I find it helps lessen the anxiety than if I was keeping it a big secret! Typically our team meeting falls the day before my scan so I’ll try and wait it out till the next one to tell them my colleagues in our meeting but we also have a WhatsApp group where we often share news of new team members - there have been a lot of 4 legged additions over the last couple of years so equally I may share the news on there, saying this time it’s a slightly different addition 🤣 I’ll wait and decide one we have a (hopefully) positive scan!

CaliGirl47 · 06/03/2023 17:09

So glad everyone is doing okay today.

That’s wonderful news @Goneaboutthiswrong so pleased for you! 🤗💗

Thanks for all your reassurance ladies. I did take a water bottle with me but I didn’t push my bladder to bursting. I have a retroverted uterus so I knew the more I drink the clearer it would be. There was no option of internal scan this time but the sonographer was very experienced. I had a moment of panic when baby showed up on screen because there was no movement. But I could see the heartbeat flickering. The sonographer said: “Don’t worry I’ll get baby moving” 😂 and he put more pressure on. Which helped to make things clearer. I felt comfortable with it because I could tell he knew what he was doing. Anyways long story short baby was fine and kicking its legs in the end. He was able to get a NT measurement as well and said it all looked good. Giving me a due date of 22nd of September so we are going to tell DD tonight that she had a brother or sister on the way 👶🏼💗💙

Due September 2023 after miscarriage 🌈
CaliGirl47 · 06/03/2023 17:14

Oh and my appointment took exactly three hours 😅 But thankfully they gave me the scan first thing

pinkpirlie · 06/03/2023 17:24

Beautiful @CaliGirl47
So happy for you!!
You can't be too far away from me based on your hospital :)

@Houseelf90 definitely. I keep feeling like I'm in a minority for telling early.
We won't be doing a formal 'announcement' as we aren't on socials. I've told maybe 10 friends now. My DP's closest friends and family live abroad. His family know but he hasn't told any friends, but that's his journey when he feels comfortable. My mom on the other hand has told the entire world I think 🤣
Funny you say about the day before - my office day is the day before my scan too which is why I'm slightly hesitant. But I had a scan at 10 weeks that was fine, and I don't know when I will see them in person again. This is is the first time I'm going in this year, so I'm wondering whether to just bite the bullet. I'm often very poorly after being in the car, so I probably won't be able to hide from that.

HopefulBee · 06/03/2023 18:20

@CaliGirl47 so happy all went well for you and you got to see your lovely baby! Looks so cute already!

@pinkpirlie and @Houseelf90 we actually told my sister and a few close friends already too. Just waiting to share with the rest as we feel more comfortable, but will probably tell some more people before the scan just because we happen to see them. And we won’t do social media announcements as we don’t use that either. But it’s so nice to share with people when you see them. It’s such a lovely phase of pregnancy when you get to do that. 🥰
