Hello ladies
I'm 44 and had 4 previous miscarriages..... Found out last wk I'm pregnant and incredibly anxious after so many losses and my age. Lack of symptoms aren't helping besides the stretching twinges.

Is anyone joining me in this journey?

Hello everyone, I've been still watching this thread every day but not posted an updated! I had my reassurance scan on Saturday and was measuring at 8 +2 and saw heartbeat. So surreal. Going to have another at 10w because my 12 week scan isn't booked in til 12+6 and that feels like a really long wait. That means due date of 28th September.

I have been feeling so appalling the last couple of weeks with exhaustion and nausea (luckily no vomiting but my friend with HG said is that almost worse because you don't get any relief?!) I'm feeling quite down and then guilty that I don't feel totally overjoyed all the time to be pregnant after the loss - does anyone else feel the same?! Another weight on my mind is that I was in the Maldives at 5-6 weeks for honeymoon and apparently that's a Zika risk! Spoke to GP and they didn't seem remotely concerned and said the NHS don't do testing anymore, but I've paid for a private test next week just for peace of mind. Don't think I'll have it back in time before my first midwife appointment, so hoping she won't think I'm an awful, irresponsible person!

Really happy there are lots of positive scan stories on here too and excited to see the 12 week scans start coming in!

@pinkpirlie hopefully they are a good match for you. I couldn’t believe how quickly the cyclizine worked after spending a week straight vomiting. @Houseelf90 I had a couple mild headaches but they usually subsided I didn’t link it with cyclizine though.

im waiting for a consultant letter to come through for the final due date but I’ve a feeling it might kick me out of this thread 😂 I started at 4/9 then moved to 2/9 so might end up the end of august like ds his due date was 25/8 and was induced and came 7/9. My midwife seems to want me to push to be consultant led because of my miscarriages and bad labour with ds. I have no problems that would make me consultant led but I worry it’s because my unit is so understand and ran by 2 retired midwives. She even said about trying to get induced early but that’s not what I want. It was all too much too soon to talk about I was too scared to jinx things

Blueskies4 · 24/02/2023 14:53

Hi @log51 welcome and congratulations 🙃

Totally not getting the feeling overjoyed - I’m very hesitant to let myself get carried away.. my husband said to me last night that even if we ended up having another loss, it would be heartbreaking regardless of whether I let myself get excited or not, so try to live more in the moment with it and I thought it’s pretty fair comment!

I don’t think it’s a bad idea getting a test privately for the Zika, to help put your mind at rest.. but going on holiday there certainly doesn’t make you a awful person! I bet there’s tonnes of people who have pregnancies around the same time as holidaying in zika risk areas! Xx

Blueskies4 · 24/02/2023 14:54

That should have read “I totally get the not feeling overjoyed….” But baby brain is something else RN 😂

00Bubbles00 · 24/02/2023 15:22

@log51 congratulations! Just to ease your worries, I was in Thailand in 2016 before I got pregnant with my first baby and there was Zika there at the time (and everyone was very worried about it). We hadn't really thought about it when we booked and I was worried when I got pregnant quickly (within 6 weeks of returning). I told the midwife at checking in and even then, when Zika was really prevalent, they were very relaxed about it.

This is (hopefully) my third baby but it doesn't get easier - which is ridiculous as I know from my other pregnancies that nothing actually predicts a miscarriage and there is absolutely no correlation between how I was feeling/what I was eating/how much exercise I did (or didn't do) and whether the pregnancy was successful. That still doesn't stop me randomly prodding my boobs to see if they are still sore and/or wondering if I feel sick or I'm just a bit hungry...!

I had another scan yesterday just for peace of mind. Due date of 30th September and all fine so far. It was just at Ultrasound direct as it is near my office but the sonographer was hilariously terrible. She had broken English and said "this baby is behind schedule on its growth" followed by "if you have had one miscarriage you are much more likely to have another". I pointed out that that is, statistically, incorrect and suggested that she shouldn't say that anxious women who are there for reassurance. Also, that if she had checked the previous scan, she would see the baby has the same due date as last time and isn't "behind", I knew I ovulated later in the cycle than normal so it makes sense.

I was feeling fairly robust yesterday so found her rude bedside manor quite funny but I'm not sure they have particularly good staff there (in case anyone else is tempted!)

log51 · 24/02/2023 17:11

@Blueskies4 Thank you and you're right! And if anything the horrible symptoms are a good sign that hormone levels are high. My baby brain is awful - I walked to the post office the other day and realised I'd dropped my envelope en route (only containing my passport!)

@00Bubbles00 Thanks so much, this makes me feel loads better about the Zika! That sonographer experience sounds rubbish and completely untrue about the miscarriages!

Houseelf90 · 24/02/2023 18:37

@00Bubbles00 omg that is shocking!!!! What a stupid thing to say to a woman who is having a reassurance scan!! I’m absolutely gobsmacked! Pleased you were in the right mood for it not to affect you!

pinkpirlie · 24/02/2023 22:06

@00Bubbles00 what an awful experience. That's not what anxious parents to be want to hear. Well done for not letting her terrible service affect you and that you stood up for what you knew to be correct.

So glad your little bubba is doing well though.

Tinkerbell098 · 27/02/2023 10:56

I have my booking appointment Thursday, then should get my dating scan date through following that. I’ve booked a 10 week scan at the weekend privately x

Tinkerbell098 · 28/02/2023 10:35

Thanks all! We ended up telling family and close friends last night. It's starting to feel more real now! Any ladies on progesterone pessaries - were you told to stop these at 12 weeks? I'm feeling really nervous to go cold turkey, I was on 2 per day up to yesterday.

Astar21 · 28/02/2023 11:08

@Tinkerbell098 wonderful news congratulations on a great scan 💖 I bet it's so lovely being able to tell people.
I'm on progesterone twice a day, but been told to stay on them til 16weeks. Im sure it's fine though if that's what you've been advised.

@Vwswimmer1 and @Littleheart5 good luck today ✨

I'm 11 weeks now and feeling like my nausea is easing off. Anyone else the same?

Houseelf90 · 28/02/2023 13:56

@Astar21 mine is very hit and miss. After being bad last week, it was fine over the weekend and didn’t need to take my meds, then yesterday was horrendous even with my meds. Today doesn’t seem too bad, just really really tired and bloated.

Luna57 · 28/02/2023 13:59

@Astar21 im 13 weeks and my sickness and nausea ramped up yesterday again. Hopefully that’s your nausea over with now and you can enjoy going into 2nd trimester 😊

what’s everyone’s thought on covid during pregnancy? I’m worried I’ve covid. I haven’t any tests but I was in contact with 2 service users in my work who had it last week and still testing positive now. I’m trying to tell myself it’s a virus just but my skin is sore and so is my head and throat and very heavy chest. Just feeling miserable and worried of the negative impact and complications of covid during pregnancy 😭
