Did you just 'know' the baby's sex?

When pregnant (and choosing not to find out) did you ever just have a strong feeling that you knew the baby's sex? Or did you see something on a scan that alerted you to its possible sex?

I was convinced in my first pregnancy it was a girl. I had a 'feeling' and every old wives tale pointed to it was completely wrong.

This time I feel unqualified to say 😅 but I've had extra scans and have never spirted any 'boy' tell tale signs - does this mean it is a girl? Or could a boy easily hide in scans (especially when I have no clue what I am looking at)! So basically, no finding out but if I happen to see something...

I was absolutely certain I was having a boy, not for a while but towards the end I dreamt about him and we called him a boyish name, didn’t want to find out and didn’t care at all. Had 16 scans for medical reasons and never thought to have a look and asked not to be told.

DH had to tell me 3 times it was a girl till I believed him 😂

This time I don’t have a clue, still don’t care and haven’t yet had any dreams and just think about it as “the baby”.

QueefQueen80s · 09/01/2023 18:36

Yep felt it in both mine, it's believeable that our wombs could somehow transmit a message to our brains.

upfucked · 09/01/2023 18:36

Yep with both children. I was wrong the first time 😂

AinmÁlainn · 09/01/2023 18:36

I was absolutely sure with my two pregnancies and was right. I didn't have any scans to confirm. I read somewhere years ago that a mother's intuition is above chance at predicting the baby's sex, but I can't remember the exact details.

Amandasummers · 09/01/2023 18:39

I felt I knew my last one was a boy the whole way through. He was indeed a boy

MolesOnPoles · 09/01/2023 18:41

Nope. Convinced they’ve been boys twice, but they’re both girls.

vintagechristmas · 09/01/2023 18:46

Totally outing to anyone who knows me.

Both my children were conceived via IVF.

I saw my first embryo on the screen and said to my husband "it's a boy". And it was.

Second time- looked at the embryo on screen and felt absolutely nothing. I felt so flat, just had a feeling the cycle wouldn't work and it didn't.

Third time round- two embryos put back in. Looked at the screen- nothing. We got back to our car and I opened the door and had an overwhelming feeling we would have one girl. I was pregnant with twins. We lost one before twelve weeks and I did indeed have a baby girl.

This is absolutely true and I can't even explain it. I just knew.

MybabyH · 09/01/2023 18:46

Yes all three times correct - had an inkling that I was carrying a boy first time- he was indeed a boy. Second time everyone was informing me it was most certainly a girl due to different bump shape, cravings, sickness etc but I just couldn't get to grips with girls names. I bought him a little tiger teddy for when he was born - and he was a boy.

Third time everyone was shock sure I was a "boy mum" (whatever one of those is!)and thought it was another boy including my husband. I bought a pretty floral headband and baby blanket a week before I gave birth to my daughter! Loved the not knowing for definite and wondering if I was right or not. Would love to do it all again. :)

GoldenPineapple88 · 09/01/2023 18:48

I had no idea all three times. I felt sure I would 'just know' but I didn't. And my guesses were wrong on two occasions 😂 Despite having two boys and a girl, all my pregnancies were exactly the same - eerily so!

Bababluesheep2 · 09/01/2023 18:49

I didn’t know first time but I did second time and I was right.

MadamOracle · 09/01/2023 18:49

I was absolutely convinced I was having a boy with my first. She was a girl.

Beamur · 09/01/2023 18:51

I was convinced that I was having a boy throughout my pregnancy.
About a month before I was due I dreamt I was having a girl, even to the detail of hair and eye colour (unusual) and lo DD was born with exactly that colouring...WOOOO! but true 😁😁

StiggyZardust · 09/01/2023 18:51

I was convinced from very early in my pregnancy that I was having a boy. I did.

TwinkleCrows · 09/01/2023 18:52

I knew DS was a boy. From about 16 weeks, I would believe nothing else I would have bet my life savings on it. He was a boy.

I'm pregnant now and have no idea.

Irishgirl55 · 09/01/2023 18:55

Myself and all my family were convinced we were having a girl, had a girls name picked out but no boys names.

when they placed our DS on my chest I was soooo shocked.

this pregnancy, husband thinks he saw something on the scan and it's another DS. I'll be happy either way!

jays · 09/01/2023 18:55

Yes, I didn’t find out but I ‘knew’ I was having a boy and picked his name. It wasn’t until I was mid emergency c section that I had a panic that I might be wrong (I wasn’t caring whether it was a boy or a girl but I felt like I already had such a relationship with him that it would have felt like a loss if he didn’t exist! Hard to explain). Anyway, he appeared and he’s 18 now!

TheRookie · 09/01/2023 18:56

I was convinced my first was a boy. Absolutely and totally, bought boys clothes, had boys names... She is a girl!!! I couldn't believe it, made my DH go back and check once they took her to be weighed!

Cuppasoupmonster · 09/01/2023 18:56

Convinced it was a boy with number 1. She’s a girl! Convinced girl with number 2 as lots of sickness, same cravings as DD. It’s a boy (after a wrong NIPT which said girl! 😱)

So I’m rubbish at guessing!

Galarunner · 09/01/2023 18:58

Approximately 50% of time those with a hunch will be right!

Palmfrond · 09/01/2023 18:59

You’ve got one of two choices which means a random passerby making a guess has 50% chance of being right.
FWIW My DW refuses to have another child because she’s convinced she can’t carry a female to term (had a few miscarriages she thought were girls).

Blixem · 09/01/2023 18:59

I did. I also 'knew' I was pregnant way before I missed my period. I had really strong feelings it was a girl but then tried to convince myself it wasn't just it case I was wrong but she was a girl.

Guavafish1 · 09/01/2023 18:59

I had a feeling it was boy.. but i was wrong...and husband was right 😩

Manifest828 · 09/01/2023 19:00

I got pregnant in 2020 and with the pandemic going on We chose not to find out. I'm so glad that we didn't. But around 16 weeks or so I started to refer to bump as he. Hubby kept correcting me as we didn't know but I just knew baby was a boy. Hubby got to tell me when I gave birth what baby was I burst out crying it confirmed my instincts.

I am currently pregnant with baby number 2 still early but for some reason I think baby will be a girl. I'll let you know in a few weeks what I think. We're not going to find out but see if my instincts changes.

Yep!

BellaCiao1 · 09/01/2023 19:00

I wonder do we subconsciously have a preferred gender that we feel it is.

Did anyone try to scan spot with an untrained eye?
