Did you just 'know' the baby's sex?

When pregnant (and choosing not to find out) did you ever just have a strong feeling that you knew the baby's sex? Or did you see something on a scan that alerted you to its possible sex?

I was convinced in my first pregnancy it was a girl. I had a 'feeling' and every old wives tale pointed to it was completely wrong.

This time I feel unqualified to say 😅 but I've had extra scans and have never spirted any 'boy' tell tale signs - does this mean it is a girl? Or could a boy easily hide in scans (especially when I have no clue what I am looking at)! So basically, no finding out but if I happen to see something...

Yes.
But not voiced my feeling until the day of the scan where they tell you. We had pulled into car park and I suddenly said "It's a boy, I feel like it is..." but then we both kind of laughed it off and went in, where we found out it WAS a boy. Which was a bit of a relief as the one and only name we had managed to agree on was a male one!

Yes. I absolutely knew I was having a boy. I just knew it deep in my bones.

She was a girl.

I wonder do we subconsciously have a preferred gender that we feel it is.

Did anyone try to scan spot with an untrained eye?

Definitely leaning towards this. I thought it was my personal preference (yes, I did have one....) so never said what I felt as I was/am convinced it was just my own bias.

With DC1 I wanted a girl but DH’s family is mainly boys so think I was ‘preparing’ myself for that. DC2 I was pretty indifferent but another girl would mean we wouldn’t need an extra bedroom and could re-use all of DD’s things, so between that and the symptoms/cravings think I just assumed girl again. The nub theory was pretty accurate for me though, both times.

HaroldsDogBowl · 09/01/2023 19:06

I was certain I was having a boy, didn't consider any girl names.. even when she was handed to me, I was so off my face I was like "he's beautiful.." Blush

Took us a week to name her, too.

Jellycats4life · 09/01/2023 19:07

I didn’t have a clue either time!

BabyFour2023 · 09/01/2023 19:07

I’ve known with all 3 of mine from pretty early on. Didn’t find out the sex with any but was convinced each time and each time I was right. Can’t explain how. Im pregnant again and I’m pretty sure it’s a girl.

SuperGinger · 09/01/2023 19:15

DC2 I just knew she was a girl and I also just know the day she was conceived even though it was some time after I'd had sex with DH - well over a week and we were on different continents, when I got home I told DH I was pregnant, it was not yet showing up on a pregnancy test. I was right.

She is an unbelievably wise child and I know it's odd but sometimes I feel like she is the grown up and I'm the child. She feels like that too sometimes and we can easily second guess each other.

DS I suspected but he flashed at us on the scan and they printed it out and it was so obvious as I walked down the hospital corridor with the scan pic, everyone said "oh so it's a boy," it was so obvious!

MamaBear1022 · 09/01/2023 19:19

Yes, I knew the day the embryo was transferred. (IVF)

Fleabea · 09/01/2023 19:20

I was convinced I was having a boy all the way through my pregnancy - the only old wives tale that suggested I was having a boy was that my bump was all up front and everything else suggested girl.

Sure enough, it was a boy!

Ethelswith · 09/01/2023 19:31

I was absolutely certain each time

And dead wrong each time Grin

OceanbreezeSun · 09/01/2023 19:42

I have been right both times - strong feeling dd was a girl quite early on. We have more girls (especially 1st born) in my large family, so maybe that swayed it.

Currently pregnant with dc number 2 - felt strongly he was a boy from about wk 11/12. At the 20 wk scan - it was quite obvious he was a boy!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 09/01/2023 19:44

Nope - convinced #1 was a girl and it turned out to be a boy. #2 I was convinced it would be another boy - DH's family are all boys, hasn't been a girl for years. It was a girl. I made DH sit down before I told him incase he fainted from shock.

alark · 09/01/2023 19:45

I was sure I was having a boy, and indeed I was! I suppose you have a 50:50 chance of getting it right though Grin

CoodleMoodle · 09/01/2023 19:47

With DD I had absolutely no idea. I was possibly leaning more towards boy but when they said girl at 20wks I wasn't surprised at all.

With DS I just knew he was a boy. Everyone seemed to - I had several people tell me they thought boy. And then he was very clearly a boy at the scan Grin And of course DD immediately started telling everyone all about "my little brother" so nobody was surprised!

DramaAlpaca · 09/01/2023 19:48

Oh yes, in each pregnancy I was certain I knew.

I was wrong all three times Grin

YourUserNameMustBeAtLeast3Characters · 09/01/2023 19:49

I absolutely knew I was having a girl both times.

I have two boys.

Tinytigertail · 09/01/2023 19:50

I 'absolutely knew' and was absolutely wrong!

ChillysWaterBottle · 09/01/2023 19:50

Yup! 100% right and just knew. Had it with a couple of friend's pregnancies too, just knew. All boys so I just wonder if I'm particularly sensitive to testosterone or something 😁

itsme432 · 09/01/2023 19:51

I was certain I was having a boy and gave birth to my daughter. Was actually in shock!

Think will be finding out this time but I have a feeling its another girl 💖 (probably a boy ) lol

Hopefulbride18 · 09/01/2023 19:51

I never had any gut feelings at all but had a guess both times based on symptoms... Both wrong 🤣

Namechange828492 · 09/01/2023 19:51

I was convinced dd was a boy. Had a boy's name picked, bought a gorgeous baby blue dungaree set. Was very surprised at birth

Workinghardeveryday · 09/01/2023 19:52

Yep! I totally knew my first was a girl from finding out. (Didn’t find out sex)

Second pregnancy, no idea. Twins - boy and girl!

Workinghardeveryday · 09/01/2023 19:53

But I also know friends who felt exactly the same and were wrong..

ShutTheFrontDory · 09/01/2023 19:56

Yes was convinced baby was a boy from the very beginning...and it was.
