Did you just 'know' the baby's sex?

When pregnant (and choosing not to find out) did you ever just have a strong feeling that you knew the baby's sex? Or did you see something on a scan that alerted you to its possible sex?

I was convinced in my first pregnancy it was a girl. I had a 'feeling' and every old wives tale pointed to it was completely wrong.

This time I feel unqualified to say 😅 but I've had extra scans and have never spirted any 'boy' tell tale signs - does this mean it is a girl? Or could a boy easily hide in scans (especially when I have no clue what I am looking at)! So basically, no finding out but if I happen to see something...

I was convinced DS was a boy. Also the night before I went into labour I had an extremely vivid dream where I saw him at about 2 years old. He was standing up looking at me with a shock of black hair. When checking me during labour the midwife commented; 'I'm feeling alot of hair here!' and I said 'yeah, he's got loads'. Grin

At 2 years old he looked exactly how my dream was as well. I don't care if people think it is silly, it brought me immense comfort and joy.

I wonder do we subconsciously have a preferred gender that we feel it is.

Did anyone try to scan spot with an untrained eye?

Yes I didn't want to find out and the sonographer said she wasn't going near the genitals. I still deciphered male genitals for the 3 seconds she most definitely went over them. I was so shocked by what I saw that I asked her at the end of the scan if she had looked at the genitals and she said no and that she didn't know what sex the baby was. I must be qualified as a sonographer then... 🤪

I 100% felt like I knew with my son & I was ‘right’. I’m now 12 weeks pregnant & although I’m leaning much more boy (prob because I have one already) I’m not as ‘sure’ this time.. can’t wait to find out, I cant stand the not knowing - I’m terrible😂

Itoldyouthatmum4 · 09/01/2023 20:07

All the way through my third pregnancy I was certain I was carrying a girl. Refused to even consider a boy’s name as I knew it was a girl. This was in the 80s so no scan to confirm sex. I duly went into labour and was contracting hard and fast. Midwife checked me and told DH baby would probably be here in about 30 mins and she then left the room. Within a couple of minutes I could feel the baby crowning and yelled for my husband to get someone. Midwife returned to see what all the shouting was about just as the baby shot down the bed! She grabbed the baby and announced I had given birth to a boy. In my drug induced state I looked at my DH who looked as white as a sheet - he could see that this “boy” had no willy! In all the confusion the swollen nether region looked like testicles from behind. Once she flipped the baby over she realised her mistake and showed me the baby from the front who was clearly a girl. Much laughter and relief all round but I still managed a smug “I told you so” to my traumatised DH!

I want to say no but my partners family are strongly male centric but from the beginning i had a strong feeling i was having a girl even though everyone was telling me its definitely a boy. Currently 32 weeks with a girl :)

rubygiz · 09/01/2023 20:34

Yep I am 24 weeks and I knew as soon as I found out i was expecting it was a girl and that has been confirmed

Autumn231 · 09/01/2023 20:41

First time, absolutely convinced he was a boy from very early on. Can’t explain how, I just knew. And was right.

Second time around, wasn’t sure but would have guessed girl. Another boy!

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/01/2023 20:41

I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one whose intuition was completely wrong 😆

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/01/2023 21:16

We were certain it was a girl but did find out at the 20 week scan but before that we just thought it was.

SingingSands · 09/01/2023 21:24

Not the first time, but definitely with my second. As soon as I saw the post test I knew I was having a boy. The feeling just got stronger as the pregnancy progressed, it was a bit weird really.

My mum is convinced I found out at one of my scans but I honestly didn't.

winemonster · 09/01/2023 21:39

Yes 100% felt it was a boy from pregnancy test onwards. Very bizarre. We were not wrong 🥰

swipe · 09/01/2023 21:45

I knew mine was a boy, I don't know how, I just knew! Lo and behold he was a boy!

ladygindiva · 09/01/2023 22:06

Nope, convinced dd1 was a boy, turned out to be a girl. Twins followed, was convinced at least one of them would be a boy cos, well, probability, but no, two more girls. Clueless here.

Wrongsideofpennines · 09/01/2023 22:34

Nope. I was convinced I was having a boy 2nd time as the pregnancy was so different to my first (lost identical twin girls in 2nd trimester). Lots of people said they would be a boy, even those that didn't know we had girls previously. I didn't bother much with girl's names as I was so convinced they would be a boy. Poor daughter was without a name for 5 days because I was so in shock.

This time around I'm not even going to try to guess. We'll chose names for both and try not to be drawn into old wives tales.

SantaCarlaCalifornia · 09/01/2023 22:39

I guessed all 3 correctly.
Boy, girl, boy.

Dyra · 09/01/2023 22:40

Yup. Right both times. Girl, then a boy.

Though I did change my mind mid 3rd trimester with my first. Up until then I was guessing I was having a boy. I was a lot more certain baby was a girl than I had been up until then.

BabyOnBoard90 · 09/01/2023 23:05

Flip a coin - and same probability your hunch will be correct.

PritiPatelsMaker · 09/01/2023 23:12

I was certain both times and right.

My DF was convinced she was having a girl, the scans said girl and it wax a boy. You can never be 100% Wink

PurpleBag · 09/01/2023 23:16

I guessed both of mine correctly. Was more convinced with second DC to the point I was telling people the sex. Good job I guessed right Grin
I didn't look at the scans or think it was anything woo or anything, just had a 50/50 chance and got it right.

Facecream · 09/01/2023 23:27

Yes. Both times. Second time we asked to find out (DD had disabilities which meant the world class scanning consultant couldn’t see the requisite bits). We even had a 3D (4D?) scan and I could see her face in such detail (around 35 weeks) and he laughed about how it had only happened a few times that he couldn’t tell) - great man called Fred at UCLH.
I remember my DH was convinced it was a boy. The night before my c-section I said I hope you are ready for a girl. I knew she’d be a little amazing girl

Amiehelen · 15/05/2024 22:32

Hi all,
So I had my 'big scan' but had to go back twice. First time the person was unsure but said a girl? Then today they confirmed that it was a girl. However I've been feeling different from the beginning. I have a feeling I'm carrying a boy and still feel it. My bump is different and not high either. My partner and myself were going to do a gender reveal. Only because I had my daughter who was born in 2020. She is also a September baby and was due the 17 September but born the 30.

This baby is due the 18th September. Any thoughts?

Did you just 'know' the baby's sex?
Moier · 15/05/2024 22:37

We never got told back when l had mine.. but l was told female babies heart beats faster than boys ( over 140).some say it's a myth.. both my babies had high heart beats.. both were girls.

Ginflinger · 15/05/2024 22:55

Yes! Knew completely. Wrong both times.

Amiehelen · 15/05/2024 23:09

@Ginflinger as in you knew what you were having? But was told different and it was wrong?

@Moier my baby heart beat was 142. I still feel like the hospital is wrong. I have gut feeling boy and my bump is so different. It isn't high at all. But I've been told that I'm having a girl.

coralpinkduckegg · 15/05/2024 23:11

I knew it was a boy as I felt a lot more testosterone than in the previous pregnancy with DD. I've never been hairier or angrier.
