Here’s a new thread for the upcoming new year.

I think we’ve got all due dates covered now but newbies are still of course most welcome. We’re a friendly, chatty bunch so do feel free to join in.

@LS888 yup take it allllll! Might not need the pumps but can always pass on later but the rest is a for sure 💙

BCxx · 03/01/2023 16:05

@LS888 yeah I’d say take them all. You could probably get a new fresh mattress for the next to me too if you wanted. I had a manual pump last time and it was actually really hard work. I didn’t get on with the whole breastfeeding/expressing thing at all though and gave up quite quickly but this time I think I’m going to try and get a second hand electric one and buy new bits for it

somuchtolearnabout · 03/01/2023 16:14

@LS888 Id take it all except the feeding pillow personally, I found that a bit of a gimmick. Also I never used a pump support belt but you might as well take it and if you don't use it, no love lost.

I used the Medela electric pump with DS1 and the elvie with DS2 and the elvie really is worth the hype. I breastfed DS1 for 2 years until DS2 was born, and assumed I'd do the same with him. But when he was born I realised I'd spent the last 3.5 years either pregnant or BF and quite frankly, I was done. So I did it for 6 months then weaned him off (by which point I was so far past the point of wanting to do it and it was a real struggle weaning him). This time I've already decided (for my own mental health / the sake of my marriage!) that I'm only going to BF for the first few weeks and that's me done 🙂

LS888 · 03/01/2023 16:23

@somuchtolearnabout the electric one they have is the medela. They only breastfed for a little while as he was premature and struggled with it so swapped to formula to get enough food in him. It’s ok to use second hand ones?

LS888 · 03/01/2023 16:25

Thanks @BCxx I literally feel like I have no idea what I need! Haven’t thought about it yet…

LS888 · 03/01/2023 16:26

Thanks @sally16 thinking about what I will need is a huge minefield!! Complete novice!

sally16 · 03/01/2023 16:29

@LS888 you won't know if you need the bump band till later but it was a life saver for me! I developed SPD PGP the lot.. could barley walk but it helped me so much!

sally16 · 03/01/2023 16:29

Officially on the ice craving.. and back to lemonade.. only thing that's stopping the nausea.. now I'm mad I took an extra shift tonight 🫠

Yeah second hand is absolutely fine, just wash and sterilise as you normally would anyway

nadsc · 03/01/2023 16:43

Hey guys, I’ve been watching for a while but thought I should finally join if that’s okay?!

I am 8 weeks today but I had a private scan last night and I was measuring 8+3 so I’m not sure how far along I am. 8+3 sounds about right based on my conception date. This is my second pregnancy and I feel so much more anxious this time around - no idea why. My daughter will be around 20 months when baby arrives.

12 week scan is 3rd Feb and it feels so far away!! My husband doesn’t want me booking another private scan but I really want to.

Amme18 · 03/01/2023 16:51

@LS888 yes take it all!

@somuchtolearnabout thanks for the pump info! Last time I had a professional grade medula one so dreading getting a normal one now and don’t know where to start other than I want a double pump! The one from last time isn’t available this time.

LS888 · 03/01/2023 16:53

Welcome @nadscand congrats on your pregnancy!

somuchtolearnabout · 03/01/2023 16:54

@Amme18 Ah do they not do the elvie double anymore? My friend has one from her twins as she ended up exclusively pumping (HELL) and I know it was amazing, I didn't know they'd stopped doing them though. I wonder why. Did you not keep yours?

sally16 · 03/01/2023 16:54

@nadsc welcome!! This is my second pregnancy and I'm also a lot more anxious.. I want even slightly worried with my first 😅 but I had no idea about MMC etc and went into early scans with no fear 🤣
This time I'm still optimistic but very much looking forward to my scan 😅

somuchtolearnabout · 03/01/2023 16:54

@Amme18 *medela double 🙈

somuchtolearnabout · 03/01/2023 16:55

Welcome @nadsc and congrats!!! I feel like ever since I found MN I've become an anxious pregnant person! I miss the blissful ignorance I had during my first pregnancy

sally16 · 03/01/2023 16:55

@Amme18 I'm buying the double mom cozy again! I gifted it last time to a friend after and she gifted it again and gave me some money towards a new one when I told her we were expecting again!
I found it much better than the elvie (and sooo much cheaper!)

Sjw30 · 03/01/2023 16:55

@sally16 going back to our discussion about shift work, can now firmly say nights aren’t the one. Especially 3 in a row. 🤢

sally16 · 03/01/2023 16:59

@Sjw30 I've spaced mines all out 😅 suffering with severe insomnia and nightmares again so it's the only way I seem to sleep now 🫠
And it's bulking my mat pay up 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I found taking break at 3am is the key!

Sjw30 · 03/01/2023 16:59

@somuchtolearnabout I feel the same tbh, not this thread or the fb group but just MN general. I often wonder if It didn’t take us so long to conceive, and I didn’t spend many hours searching the internet learning about all sorts during this time if I would be in blissful ignorance. Probably not but it’s definitely influenced how anxious I feel tbh.

Sjw30 · 03/01/2023 17:01

@sally16 I think I need to have a look at my shifts and sort them out a bit! The night shift hunger sickness is on another level! I had to come off my break early to get some toast despite only eating not long before 🤣.

ChloeN · 03/01/2023 17:03

@sally16 glad im not alone!! I was sick earlier and either wee or discharge came out🤦🏻‍♀️ is my pelvic floor really that shit!!🤣🤣

@Amme18 that sounds like me, im glad it’s normal that your bladder is squished that’s what it feels like😂

sally16 · 03/01/2023 17:04

@Sjw30 see that's where your going wrong! Gotta bring some snacks in! My fave is the chocolate custard creams we seem to have stock piled 😂😂😂

@ChloeN im defo dribbling 🤣 first day wearing a mini pad and I'm doing pelvic floor again lol

Sjw30 · 03/01/2023 17:26

@sally16 oh I have plenty of snacks 🤣 people are noticing as well. Probably cos I was on quite a strict diet before I found out then suddenly, I’m a bottomless pit and can’t stop eating 🤣

ChloeN · 03/01/2023 17:27

Has anyone else eaten antipasti/deli meats when pregnant? I asked the midwife today and she said it was fine but the nhs says this, do I eat it or not lol🤣 does it mean I can only eat it if cooked? Xx
