Hi all,
obvs still very early days. I’m currently 4+4 and just trying to enjoy it really. Just wondering if anyone wanted to join me to share early symptoms, how you’re managing to hide symptoms, how you’ll reveal your pregnancy to loved ones etc. and all the other bits and bobs on this journey 🄰

@Firsttimemomma1 defo with you on time going slowly, the countdown to my 12 week scan has been the slowest 3 weeks of my life šŸ˜‚ it is absolute torture but at least we’re all in the same boat!

Firsttimemomma1 · 17/01/2023 18:15

@Cat1424 if only it was a speed boat for the first trimester and a lovely 100ft yacht for the second and third haha!!

Cat1424 · 17/01/2023 18:17

@Firsttimemomma1 I know we shouldn’t wish it away but that would be the dream!!!

laurapalmer22 · 17/01/2023 17:19

@Londongirl87 I felt both nervous and excited before my scan, but mostly just eager to know whether or not I'm pregnant now (knowing full well anything can happen in the next few weeks). Just living inside my own head not knowing for weeks is torture! Anxiety definitely breeds on ambiguity. I hope your scan on Saturday goes well, the odds are certainly in your favour!

This is totally me. Is there something going on in there??

DandelionPockets · 18/01/2023 13:40

How's everyone doing today?

Just put my due date into a website and it said I'm 22% of the way through my pregnancy which has slightly freaked me out.

cinnamonbiscuit · 18/01/2023 15:18

@DandelionPockets I’m alright, still feeling v sick but not actually able to throw up which is annoying as I get no relief, and also v different to my first pregnancy which is making me slightly anxious.

I realised yesterday that being 10 weeks this week is also being a quarter of the way through! Wtf!

How are you doing?

Nik84 · 18/01/2023 17:23

I’m feeling a bit wobbly today. I’ve got my booking appointment on 2nd Feb when I’ll be 10+2. My last pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 10+5 shortly after my booking appointment. I think the fact that this pregnancy is almost exactly a year from the last I’m starting to get really anxious. I won’t let myself believe it’ll be ok until I’ve had my first scan.

I’ve read there’s a screening test that should be done before 10 weeks so I’m concerned about that. Has anyone else had their booking appointment later than 10 weeks?

allgoodthings84 · 18/01/2023 19:04

@Nik84 mine is 10 weeks exactly so I might miss the sickle cell and the other thing to see if you’re a carrier but I have a child so had those tests before and I don’t think I would be a carrier now if I wasn’t then.

I am very nervous about finding out about a missed miscarriage after my booking in/ at my 12 week scan so I’ve got a private scan on Sunday. Im really getting scared about it but rather know in a private place than a busy nhs area with lots of happy pregnant couples around

Owlgirl14 · 18/01/2023 19:33

@DandelionPockets I'm generally feeling better in the day but by evening I get headaches and feel nauseous and unwell. I'm also massively bloated and have to take gaviscon to stop horrendous digestion pains. How are you doing?

I'm 8 weeks so I guess that's 20% of the way through. Hadn't thought of it like that. 7 months to go does seem a long time though!

I'm just wondering when it is all going to seem real as it's been a shock to us as we weren't trying, just one of those lucky ones to happen just the once. No one will be expecting it either so can't wait to see their shocked faces šŸ˜‚

hereistopositiveenergy · 18/01/2023 19:50

Wondering if anyone else is having what feels like a being full sensation and then the nausea just won't give in turning to a burning feeling in my chest 🤣 I've tried to describe it to my partner without much success so thought I'd see if anyone else is in the same boat ha! Even ginger biscuits aren't helping

Augustbabyy · 18/01/2023 20:13

Do you think if you have no nausea / sickness at 8 weeks, you are one of the lucky ones who just isn't going to have this symptom? Or do you think it will just hit in the next couple of weeks?
I'm getting worried that all of a sudden I'm going to feel really sick and struggle with work etc!

Owlgirl14 · 18/01/2023 21:33

@hereistopositiveenergy I get the bloating/fullness feeling all day and had a burning pain in my chest the other day.

Have you tried gaviscon, it's really helped my digestive symptoms x

Londongirl87 · 19/01/2023 08:24

@Augustbabyy I also don't really have any nausea / sickness and sometimes worrying that it might mean something bad, but my doctor told me that some people just don't experience it. I am 8 weeks too, and my only symptoms are huge boobs and feeling exhausted.

FarmBaby3 · 19/01/2023 08:57

@Augustbabyy I didn't have any sickness until 12 weeks with my son. It was just 2 weeks of sickness and then it went to be replaced by heartburn. I think that's quite unique though.

allgoodthings84 · 19/01/2023 09:00

@Augustbabyy it can happen that you get it later in instead but don’t think it’s common if you didn’t have it early on. I’m waiting for my placenta to take over properly so hopefully I will feel less nauseous or just not all of the time

Augustbabyy · 19/01/2023 10:10

@Londongirl87 I also was worried it wasn't a good sign, but my boobs are SO big & sore, which puts my mind at rest!

@FarmBaby3 @allgoodthings84 I think I might have spoken too soon...woke up feeling nauseous this morning...!

Owlgirl14 · 19/01/2023 10:37

@Augustbabyy The same happened to me, said my symptoms were easing and then felt really poorly all night and couldn't sleep.

Just remember everyone is different and everyone's bodies are reacting in different ways.

Also the placenta will start to take over towards the end of the first trimester so some symptoms will start easing off soon and it's all pretty normal.

Cat1424 · 19/01/2023 11:45

This is a random one, but is anyone else having real problems brushing their teeth?

For the last few weeks I have really struggled to properly brush my teeth for horrendous gag reflex! I had my tonsils removed when I was 17 so it usually takes a lot but at the moment I can’t get through 2 mins of teeth brushing without almost throwing up!

Another weird symptom of pregnancy I suppose!

allgoodthings84 · 19/01/2023 12:14

@Cat1424 yes! Every time I brush I gag and my stomach heaves. A few times it’s made me sick. I’m always nauseous but only been actually sick when brushing

unluckyinlife · 19/01/2023 13:08

@Cat1424 Me too! I've only ever been sick once in a previous pregnancy but had nausea on and off in both. I've never had such a problem brushing my teeth. It makes me gag the whole time! I have a dentist appointment in Feb and I'm terrified it will make me sick

Owlgirl14 · 19/01/2023 13:09

@Cat1424 Yes I feel quite nauseous brushing my teeth now too!

Owlgirl14 · 19/01/2023 13:17

Is anyone else struggling with missing out on promotion opportunities.

I went for a really good role externally back in summer last year but I narrowly missed out. Now the person who started is leaving already and I was their preferred second candidate and asked if I'd be interested. Obviously I've had to tell them about my pregnancy as I couldn't join and then leave them in the same situation to recruit again and also I can't leave my current employer as I wouldn't get my enhanced maternity pay.

I do potentially have an internal opportunity but it isn't as good as that one and may take some time to sort out as it always does with these things. I also worry they could decide not to employ me in that role once they find out I'm pregnant as I wouldn't be in post long and they have to recruit again.

It just sucks when this year was supposed to be focusing on my career, it's difficult for job opportunities to come up in my field and then two potentials come along at once, one of which I Definately have to turn down.

unluckyinlife · 19/01/2023 13:53

@Owlgirl14 I am fully with you. I am the only female at my level in my company and always feel as I have to work 10 times as hard as my colleagues to gain respect of clients and colleagues.

I told a colleague yesterday about my pregnancy (our role can be physical and involves travel) and he looked at me like I'd just told him someone had died. I already know the next 7 months will be hell and I'll be quietly pressured to return too soon to take the pressure off.

it's put quite a dark cloud over my pregnancy.

I refuse to leave as I love the flexibility around my kids and my Job otherwise.

ClaBro1 · 19/01/2023 19:25

i am approx 7.5/8 weeks and today had lower back pain and some dull aches low down in my pelvis. I had an upset stomach this afternoon and hope that’s all it is and not connected to a MC or ectopic. Can’t help but worry but no spotting or bleeding so far 😭

Soopyjoopy · 19/01/2023 21:10

Oh my god my boobs 😫.......that is all 😭
