Can’t believe we’re onto a second thread already. Hope this doesn’t put any newbies off, as I don’t think we’re even halfway through possible due dates yet. Anyone welcome to join in.

I wanted to start off by reassuring TheBirdintheCave that I have no nausea either and had none whatsoever all through my last pregnancy. Thinking of you and hoping your current fears turn out to be for nothing. xx

@Alexandra07 Congrats! Some of us here have also had miscarriages before our current pregnancies so lots of us in the same scary boat :)

somuchtolearnabout · 10/12/2022 21:39

For everyone asking about bringing partners to midwife appt's - I really wouldn't bother at this stage unless for some reason they really want to. Its very routine and they just take blood and ask you to pee in a cup. Maybe later they might want to go to hear the heartbeat but these early ones are zzz

CityKity · 10/12/2022 22:07

That’s for all the info about the booking appointment ladies, I guess nothing to be too excited about for now.

My letter said that the first 15mins are required to be alone with the midwife, which I guess is to assess any safeguarding concerns etc. I’m not planning to bring DH as he will be up visiting family after Christmas and it’s not a good enough reason to drag him back early.

@Alexandra07 @AnnieApple123 It’s reassuring to know that you’re not going for early scans either, it’s hard to know what the ‘done’ thing is when this earlier part of pregnancy is such a mystery. I realise now that one of my friends told me her news at 7 weeks which in hindsight was most likely after an early scan.
As a FTM I’m trying to just get on with business as usual until my body says otherwise, but if I’d had complications in the past I can totally understand the reassurance an early scan can bring.

@somuchtolearnabout I think I remember in thread 1 that you’ve given birth at Kings previously? That’s where I’ve self referred, how was your experience there?! (Apologies if it was a different poster!)

somuchtolearnabout · 10/12/2022 22:11

@CityKity Yes had both my boys at kings. Very good experience personally, especially as I ended up having high risk pregnancies both times which was only discovered at 37w but they dealt with it really well and really listened to what I wanted. Didn't force me to do anything I didn't want to do. Aftercare was fantastic both times (first baby was jaundice and needed blue light therapy, second baby had an inguinal hernia and needed emergency surgery) so really wouldn't fault them. Also had NIPT with second baby after high nuchal reading which is offered free at Harris Birthright as they're a research facility. If you've got any specific questions feel free to ask! Where do you live?

PumpkinEverything · 10/12/2022 22:29

My husband only came to my 12 and 20 week scan, and managed to sneak into one of my growth scans. This was during Covid tho when they weren’t really allowed to do much. There wasn’t really any need for him to come to any of the midwife appointments tho as they were all really short!

I ended up having I think 9 scans with my daughter 😂🙈
I had a private one at 7 weeks, then one at 9 with EPU as they said I could have one around the time my previous MMC had happened, my 12 week, a 16 week gender scan, 20 week scan, 34 week 4D scan, and then another 3 scans somewhere between then and her being born due to her measuring too big, but actually it was because she was breech for a while so making her seem bigger. Thankfully she turned herself in the end 😁

Sjw30 · 10/12/2022 22:45

Thanks for those who replied re partners and booking appointments ☺️. It’s our first and he’s really excited and wanted to come but is aware it isn’t a scan on this appointment. If it’s not necessary it probably isn’t worth having the time off work ☺️

CityKity · 10/12/2022 22:47

@somuchtolearnabout that’s such a relief to know you had a good experience there! Obviously googling brings up the bad rather than the good, and I haven’t told friends who have given birth there yet. No specific questions just yet, as still have no idea what to expect and what all the options are.
I’m East Dulwich for now, but not in an ideal spot as a purchase fell through so we’re in house limbo :( and praying that we can settle down properly next year before baby!

somuchtolearnabout · 10/12/2022 22:55

@CityKity DH & I bought our first ever flat on Lordship Lane many moons ago. You couldn't swing a cat in there but we loved it.

Sorry to hear about the house drama! Are you in a chain or FTB? Either way very stressful I can imagine. I'm admittedly a bit of a control freak so I understand you feeling like you want to be settled before baby arrives. If it makes you feel any better, we are actually relocating to Dubai in June (with baby due in August) so I feel your pain. We still have to find a house, two cars, a nanny, a school, a gynaecologist, a hospital to give birth in, an office for DH....the list goes on. So I'll join you in limbo if there's any room left 😂

CityKity · 10/12/2022 23:16

I’d LOVE some company in limbo land!! Everyone I know (as least from the outside) looks so sorted in life, meanwhile I don’t feel the sorted in the slightest. Not quite FTB, we sold our tiny lovely flat to upsize, buyers (old) got jitters and pulled out, and we went ahead with our sale to avoid loosing our buyer (after months finding one!). We found an equally teeny ‘temporary’ rental, and now the market has disappeared we seem to be stuck here longer than we wanted!
Having said that, relocating with 2 boys and baby on the way sounds like an entirely different level of stress, but also what an amazing opportunity! I dream of moving abroad as am a bit disillusioned with SE London these days.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/12/2022 23:18

@CityKity I lived in Brockley for a while so not far :) I remember walking round Dulwich a lot.

Recoba · 11/12/2022 07:23

Hi @AnnieApple123 , really nice to find someone else still breastfeeding their toddler - most of the people I know have stopped. Are you planning on actively weaning throughout pregnancy or tandem feeding or just going with the flow? Think we'll end up doing the latter unless it becomes unbearable, as DS still incredibly fond of "mummy milk".

Hope everyone's booking appt goes really well - the one takeaway I have from first pregnancy was that any time you see any health professional they will require you to pee in a cup, so never use the loo before your appointment, and always drink as much water as you can about an hour beforehand (ended up spending a very stressful half hour stuck in the bathroom in the EPU trying to pee one time ...).

TheBirdintheCave · 11/12/2022 08:06

@Recoba I used to ask for a cup at the end of an appointment and would then pee at home before I left to go to the next one and take it with me.

mum2b29 · 11/12/2022 08:09

Hi all 👋🏻

I'm new here, I think I'm 5wks 4 days.
I'm getting confused so easily, so if it's correct the first day of my last period was the 2nd of November, so 5 wks 4days?

I'm really worried as this is my first pregnancy I've not got any symptoms apart from tender boobs, I know I'm probably just around the corner from more symptoms but just feel worried all the time.

Also can you request an early scan on NHS ?
I'm calling my GP tomorrow to let them know I'm pregnant as we found out the day we went on our honeymoon 3 wks ago! 🥰

Thanks ❤️🥰

buttercupbee · 11/12/2022 08:23

@mum2b29 congratulations!! And welcome 👋🏼

You’re correct you would be 5+4 based on your LMP (last menstrual period). I’m 6+5 and haven’t had too many symptoms either, just sore boobs and tiredness. I’m not too worried though as every pregnancy is different and some people don’t get many symptoms at all 😊 I’ve learnt a lot so far on this thread so hopefully it will help you too.

As far as I’m aware you can’t book an early scan through the NHS unless you’ve had previous losses, but there are some private companies who offer them. I’ve booked mine with window to the womb for next Sunday when I’ll be 7+5. It’s still early but I’m hoping they will be able to reassure me everything’s progressing as it should be and hopefully we’ll see a heartbeat 🤞🏼

How lovely to have found out just before your honeymoon 🥰 I got married this summer too!

Nic2908 · 11/12/2022 08:29

@mum2b29 congratulations how lovely. I bet that was a lovely surprise. I don’t think you can request early scans on NHS you have to be private, although after a certain point if you were having an issue I presume that they would scan you? Unfortunately some of the ladies on here maybe able to advise you on this.

is anyone from the north west on here? I’m debating about changing hospitals from where I had my DS?

mum2b29 · 11/12/2022 08:31

@buttercupbee
Thank you,

mum2b29 · 11/12/2022 08:35

@buttercupbee
Sorry still getting used to this app 🤦🏼‍♀️
Thank you,

Yeah I'm also tired more than usual thinking about it now, thanks for the reassurance makes me feel more at ease.

Loads of information on here it's great so far, just need to get a cuppa and read through them all 😋

Never thought of private scanning, that would be ideal, thanks again for replying.

Enjoy your appointment when it comes 🧡
x

mum2b29 · 11/12/2022 08:41

@Nic2908
It's was such a nice surprise, we only got married in autumn so surprised at how quick it actually happened!

Yeah makes sense about the early scans, thanks for replying ❤️
X

Lalalul · 11/12/2022 09:53

Re-joining after ducking out. Googling is sending me mad! It’s been a week since I found out. I feel like all my symptoms that made me test have gone. No bleeding or spotting so trying to stay positive! I’m only between 4+6 or 5+4. Tempted to buy a test just to check it’s still positive! Thinking of all you and hoping for a bunch of beautiful august bubbas :)

LMM91x · 11/12/2022 10:16

@Lalalul HIYA ! Google is the actual enemy - my head is completely fried. Had some mild cramps last night , no bleeding.. but my mind is obviously thinking that these are really severe cramps etc and i have never felt anything like this before…. It’s so bloody mad… i seem to have completely forgotten anything that is normal with my body and overthinking everything 🥹. Just want to get past the next few weeks now as this is pretty draining xxxxx

AnnieApple123 · 11/12/2022 10:21

Welcome @mum2b29

@Recoba I’m tempted to give tandem feeding a go but we’ll see. I hear that having a toddler to help keep the supply up and relieve any engorgement can be really useful in the newborn days. I know a lot of people end hating feeding two though so we’ll see…

@somuchtolearnabout Wow that’s an exciting move! I’ll look forward to hearing more about it as it progresses.

I have to have blood tests every 4 weeks in early pregnancy due to being hypothyroid and I can’t believe the second one is due this week already.

OP posts:
Lalalul · 11/12/2022 11:05

@LMM91x i hear you! It’s so hard to avoid googling when it’s so easily accessible! This week has been the slowest, 12 week scan seems a lifetime away.

UsernameNotPresent · 11/12/2022 11:47

@Recoba I am also still breastfeeding a 2 year old who is a complete boobie monster. I am hoping he will self wean as the pregnancy goes on, but if not, I will probably give tandem feeding a go.

@TheBirdintheCave I am not worried about early scan yet, I did book it too early. Nausea is getting slightly worse, which is reassuring. It turns out my due date is just between two work contracts and it's a bit stressful at the moment, as I am not sure how it will all work out with the job. My plan was to confess to one of my bosses to hopefully allow plenty of time for mat leave cover plan for them, and hopefully they will still give me the contract as it may require some flexibility from them with starting dates. I know legally I don't need to tell them this early, and I probably won't be showing much at Feb interviews (especially with right clothing), but I am hoping for some goodwill from both sides.

This thread is moving fast, I am struggling to keep up, apologies if I forgot to reply to anyone!

Loudmouth1 · 11/12/2022 12:02

@Nic2908 when you say north west where abouts do you mean? As I'm up I'm in the North West

TheBirdintheCave · 11/12/2022 12:21

@Loudmouth1 @Nic2908 I'm from the North West :)
