Oh, annoying. Just had a call from midwife unit to cancel this week’s (28w) midwife apt as they’re short staffed.
Was told to book another for next week with the surgery, but of course they’re now on lunch and won’t be open again until after my lunch break finishes.
I think this one was meant to be lots of bloods and things so I hope a delay won’t matter too much. 🫤

Dreamingof3 · 12/12/2022 13:16

@LaForza101 don't feel silly! It's always better to go in if you're worried. Any time I've spoken to a midwife about this sort of thing, they always say they'd rather you go in 100 times and everything be fine, than you stay at home and something be wrong x

ChristmasJumpers · 12/12/2022 13:28

@LaForza101 definitely don't feel silly. They want you to go in for any reduced movement, you can't be too careful! I had exactly the same last week and she kicked the second they put the doppler on my belly 😂

LaForza101 · 12/12/2022 13:38

Thanks everyone 😊 I know it's the thing they see the most often but it helps knowing others have had the same experience recently. Stubborn babies ay!

TeddyBeans · 12/12/2022 13:54

Just finished at my 28 week midwife appointment - the protein in my urine has gone, my diabetes results were better than my previous one at 12 weeks and suddenly I'm back on track for a water birth!? Merry fucking Christmas to me! 🥳🥳

Ordered some cute toys in the H&M members sale, very similar to Jellycat but for a fraction of the price!

Amazing news!

Blocklynn · 12/12/2022 16:14

Great news @TeddyBeans !

Hrf1503 · 12/12/2022 16:46

@Blondewave I don’t have SPD but had such bad sciatica I couldn’t walk without crying out in pain. I’ve had two acupuncture sessions and it’s really really helped, couldn’t actually believe it. It’s not cheap (mine is £70 a session) but I’m going to go every few weeks till the end now. Just find one registered with the British Acupuncture Council (or equivalent of you aren’t UK based) and who specialises in pregnancy / women’s health. I hope it gets better for you.

MattyM5 · 12/12/2022 16:58

Hi all, had my 25 appointment on Friday but no GTT test 🤔 They seem to be so common, how do they decide who needs one?

I started with a heightened BMI of 28 (up to 25 is normal) and have been putting on weight like there is no tomorrow (9kgs since booking appointment) 😖 I feel like these things mean I’m at an increased risk…

havanamama · 12/12/2022 17:30

@MattyM5 it depends what country you’re in or what region even.

in the US and many continental European countries it’s a routine test every pregnant woman gets.
In the UK for example, it can differ, also depends if you’re going private or public.

I had a GTT test (UK) due to high BMI, higher than yours, but no one has weighed me since week 7, so I think here they would base the need for the test on the booking appointment MBI, family history, blood test results, or any other factors.

LittleAcorn20 · 12/12/2022 18:03

@iratepirate my 28 week appt is booked for when I'm 29 weeks on the dot so there must be some wriggle room for it.
Frustrating admin for you though when they cancel but you have to call and reschedule aghhh! That's the annoying part 😬

Franklin321 · 12/12/2022 18:05

@MattyM5 my GTT was based on a high BMI (has to be over 30 in my area) and family member with type 1 diabetes. I think there are a few factors that triggers it but I’m pretty sure weight gain after booking in doesn’t count 🤔

PeonyPops · 12/12/2022 18:49

My GT test was because of high BMI 30 at booking in. Iv not had one with any of my other pregnancies and all my babies have been 9lbers. I wouldn’t push for it if you don’t need it, I nearly threw up today drinking that drink. 🤢

havanamama · 12/12/2022 19:11

Just goes to show how different it is for everyone!

Dreamingof3 · 12/12/2022 19:30

My gtt last time was based on my previous baby being over 10lbs 😂 this time it's because I had it last time

Dreamingof3 · 12/12/2022 19:31

Saying that my BMI would've meant I got tested anyway 😒😒

Finally got through but they don’t have anything til new year now so hopefully it will be ok, it’ll be 32w by then. Presume someone will flag it if that’s a problem. 🫤

ChristmasJumpers · 12/12/2022 21:50

@MattyM5 I'm having one because I have PCOS and my dad had a blood clot once but I think there are a few factors that they consider

Deut28 · 12/12/2022 22:14

@Blondewave That sounds awful. I thought my pelvic pain was bad, but yours sounds horrendous. I can't walk very far and I have days where I'm in so much pain I've crawled to the bathroom because walking hurts so much, but I have more manageable days too and it's not keeping me awake.

Is there anyone who can help when your DH goes away? With childcare or taking the dog for a walk? Can DH cook and freeze some meals for you to have while he's away? I had to do a weekend of solo childcare recently and I cried I was in so much pain. Wish I'd asked family for help instead of trying to manage by myself.

Room4onemore · 12/12/2022 23:23

I’ve got my 26 week midwife appointment in the morning, then my 28 week appointment on the 20th, along with my 2nd GTT

@havanamama how did you find the soft toys in H&m sale. Also a member and we love jelly cat but I can't justify the price!

Thirdtimesacharm3 · 13/12/2022 00:14

@Blondewave sending you lots of love - Spd is awful. I had it v badly in my first pregnancy and pretty bad second time too. This one is the best so far but I have been seeing chiro since 16 weeks to try and prevent it getting too bad. Couple of things to try - a medela pelvic support belt - so much better than the nhs ones - this let me keep walking last time (was bed bound first time around). Also do loads of glute strength exercises like pelvic tilts lying on your back and bridges as this helps too. Hope your weekend is ok x

Thirdtimesacharm3 · 13/12/2022 06:52

Whoops I mean serola belt!! Baby brain!!

Babynum2 · 13/12/2022 07:57

Is anybody else a little anxious with short staff and strikes in hospitals especially midwifes at the moment? Every single app I have is at the hospital because I'm high risk and I wait for hours each time which I don't mind it's just I'm worried when I go into labour and the after care.

28 week app today and another scan on my cervix to see if it's still same size fingers crossed.
