@Dreamingof3 sounds like we would very much get along 😂 I bought myself a Nespresso machine not long after I gave birth as a pushing present to myself!! Lowered all my standards re the tidiness and cleanliness of the house and slept when the baby slept.
Contact naps, co-sleeping all the way over here, or driving round and round, she loved and still does love to fall asleep in the car.
The toddler is still in with me by 3am most nights, but it doesn't disturb my sleep I don't think and I'll miss it when she grows out of it.
I feel like the newborn days are going to be a shock to the system all over again 😬 and I'm hoping re the contact napping that this one likes a sling (DD hated hers) because I'll not be in a position to sit still for any length of time with the two year old running riot.

It's true that sleep breeds sleep so I think napping any which way is important for them for a better night sleep. That's why the wonder weeks was amazing for us as it taught us to get into a bit of a rough routine with her naps. Though, not too much of a routine because that's another thing I personally feel about being obsessive over their sleep - means your tied to home at certain hours of the day or chopping and changing plans to suit their naps. I never wanted her to become so rigid in her nap routine and environment that we couldn't live our lives.

I’d also agree with going with the flow re. Sleep! My son woke every 2 hours for a bottle (and took an hour to feed and settle) until he was about 3 months, then by 6 months he was sleeping through and I was so smug…hahaha now he’s 2 and wakes every night 🙃 I got so wound up in trying to make him sleep etc I’d say just take it as it comes! I’d say it’s a minority out of my friends with the kids who have excellent sleepers, most have ones who wake for a good few years! You’ll always get people who’s kids managed to sleep through consistently from 6 weeks but that is so rare, I think just be ready for lots of sleepless nights for quite a while 😅

Dreamingof3 · 11/12/2022 15:02

Ohh @Franklin321 that's the worst, when you think you've 'cracked it' and the baby is like, nope just kidding 😂
Definitely think we would @LittleAcorn20, my standards have lowered with each child 🤣 I'm lucky that both of mine are in full time school now so will have the day to just have baby cuddles haha. The 3 year old quite often ends up in our bed half way through the night...well just teach her to go round the other side once baby is here!

allthingssparkly · 11/12/2022 15:26

Does anyone have any video baby monitor recommendations? One that does the job, but doesn't cost the earth! 😊

havanamama · 11/12/2022 17:05

How interesting, so far I had only heart very positive feedback about sleep training and how life changing it was for sleep

I’ve ordered that sleep book someone recommended. Thank you for the recommendation, I see it is very highly rated on Amazon!

i really don’t find cosleeping with a newborn safe at all. Our baby will be in her own Chicco next to me forever bed, so she is near and accessible but we are not putting her in danger.

Baby2iscooking · 11/12/2022 17:51

Wonder weeks was so good with Dd1.
I can’t say anything about sleep apps or training as dd1 is now 3 and still co sleeping 😬

oceanadventurer · 11/12/2022 17:53

What pram/travel system have people chosen? I am struggling to decide.....any recommendations? 😊

havanamama · 11/12/2022 18:11

@oceanadventurer we have gone with Uppababy Vista V2

Katlouise24 · 11/12/2022 18:13

@oceanadventurer we went for the silver cross dune ultimate pack!

Room4onemore · 11/12/2022 18:27

I candy orange

TeddyBeans · 11/12/2022 18:28

I've got my silvercross wayfarer from last time

@havanamama I think I've coslept about 3 times in his 4.5 years. I've never been able to get a good sleep with him there. It fills me with all sorts of dread

MattyM5 · 11/12/2022 18:39

@Baby2iscooking is the wonder weeks all the one for £3.99? I can’t seem the find a free version…

LittleAcorn20 · 11/12/2022 18:41

@havanamama you are very right that it is not necessarily the advisable thing.
The Lullaby Trust is a reputable source which has information on safe sleep and how to safely co-sleep which we used their advice first time round.
There are ways it can be made safe. And for us, our DD wouldn't be put down like a few others have said, even in the next to me crib with the side down, attached to our bed. She just couldn't cope with being put down away from me (normal baby behaviour when they have spent 9 months sharing your body). We would have never slept if it wasn't for following lullaby trusts safer co-sleeping advice.
It's also helpful to know because when you're absolutely knackered and esp if you're up multiple times in the night breastfeeding it becomes easy to accidentally doze off through the sheer exhaustion. Just knowing how to make things a bit safer was ideal for me personally, so I felt better informed and not as guilty if/when we did bed share.

But, I am well aware that it is not the optimal choice to be the absolute safest. If the next to me crib works then that's the first choice, no question!!

With all this advice and as a first time mum you absolutely have to do YOUR own thing. Your instinct is the only thing that matters and you will be astounded how naturally it kicks in 😊

MattyM5 · 11/12/2022 18:41

@oceanadventurer we went for the Bugaboo chameleon. My friend has one and it’s smooth like butter. Pricey but we want lots of kids, so figured worth investing !

LittleAcorn20 · 11/12/2022 18:43

@MattyM5 you do pay for it. But it is worth every penny.

I just remembered that it wasn't wonder weeks that we used for naps 🤦‍♀️ it was an app called Huckleberry.
That's also a good one and we just used the free version of that without the upgrade to premium.

So, I'm chatting nonsense saying we used wonder weeks for naps 😂 baby brain!

Wonder weeks was great for understanding development though!

Dreamingof3 · 11/12/2022 18:46

Yeah wonder weeks is great for when you can't understand why all of a sudden your baby hates everything they loved yesterday....open the app and oh yes in a leap 🤣

MattyM5 · 11/12/2022 18:47

@LittleAcorn20 Thanks, that’s helpful! Will check out both apps :)

oceanadventurer · 11/12/2022 19:13

Thank you for all of the pram suggestions. I am off to read about them 😊 hoping to choose one and keep an eye out for the January sales!

beatingheartbaby · 11/12/2022 19:14

oceanadventurer · 11/12/2022 17:53

We went for the venicci tinum 2.0. Mainly because the buggy part lies flat so you can use it from birth and you can fold the frame with that buggy part attached, I don't drive so thought it would be easier if I need to go on public transport

Choc2022 · 11/12/2022 19:24

allthingssparkly · 11/12/2022 15:26

Bump.

botleybump · 11/12/2022 19:26

We went for the Mamas and Paps Ocarro.
We were between this and the Bugaboo Fox, really wanted the Fox because it was the only one we found on which the hood came all the way down on the carry for, but the Black Friday pricing made our decision for us.

Dreamingof3 · 11/12/2022 19:29

We've gone for an infababy travel system. Had one last time and it was fab...super cheap compared to others too.

Monitor wise I'm not too sure what's about now 🤣 new had a BT one I think? Lasted us two kids, very basic but did everything we needed, so I'd just suggest shopping around and maybe read some reviews, not very helpful 🙈

LittleAcorn20 · 11/12/2022 19:32

@Choc2022 @allthingssparkly
Not the best for video monitor advice because we just had a sound one, a BT one. Did the job perfectly for us and I didn't feel I missed the video element ever

ToffeeEl · 11/12/2022 19:51

@oceanadventurer we went for egg system, we went to a local showroom that had all the different models we'd considered and that was the best thing we could've done. Would definitely recommend, as we were so overwhelmed but got an idea quite quickly what was important to us when we were having a go with them all

The thing we liked was that it felt really sturdy as my partner can be very heavy handed, and would suit both of our heights as there's a massive difference between us, and the cot size didn't feel like it was swamping me when I pushed it around, compared to some that felt enormous. I also liked the bugaboo but was more expensive again, and worried about scratches on a matte black chassis
