It still feels very early but I’m taking a leap of faith and starting a thread here.

Just found out yesterday that I’m due at the very start of August.

Anybody else yet?

@Rowanandremy oooo you’ve just reminded me that I was very fond of bournville orange last time 😍 and also convinced myself it was good for me because dark chocolate is good for iron levels 😂🤷‍♀️

I thought NIPT was done as standard for everyone in the UK (apart from us), and that those who paid separately were doing it for gender confirmation. I could be completely wrong though and maybe there’s more to it?

Rowanandremy · 02/12/2022 23:00

@PumpkinEverything I've never had bournville orange, did have the dark Terry's chocolate orange though which proved to be a mistake... It was gone in the blink of an eye 😆

Ah I see thanks! I know the tests for Edwards ect was still being offered on the NHS because my sister in law has recently had a baby and was offered them early on. I never knew you could have a test to tell you gender, we just paid privately for a gender scan at 16 weeks - though now I think they've changed that to you can get them at 15 weeks. The amount of changes in 3.5 years is amazing and a tad confusing 😂

somuchtolearnabout · 02/12/2022 23:17

@Jadeelx I give birth at kings college hospital in London and all my scans are done at their Harris birthright centre which is a research centre for antenatal care, we get the NIPT as standard for free on the NHS if you get elevated risk from the standard Nuchal tests. With DS2 he had a high Nuchal fold so I sent bloods off for NIPT and it was the worst 2 weeks of my life waiting for the results. I won't do it again unless I get a high Nuchal reading again which fingers crossed I won't!

PumpkinEverything · 02/12/2022 23:26

That would be me too @Rowanandremy 🙈 I love Terry’s chocolate orange! Im planning on making some chocolate fudge in the slow cooker within the next week or so 😍

oh wow, 15 weeks?! That seems so soon! We had the 16 week one too, and I felt like I didn’t believe them. I watched the scan video back literally hundreds of times trying to see if she was actually a boy 😂 I had a few extra nhs scans due to her being breech for a while and I asked them every time if she was still a girl 🙈 I was just too scared to commit to buying anything too girly. Which is good as I have quite a few neutral sleepsuits and vests in newborn and 0-3 😂

DesertSnow · 02/12/2022 23:32

Hi @BusyBushBaby - so sorry to hear about your losses. Hoping this is your rainbow. Hi also @helloimlaura sorry about your loss also. Such a nerve-wracking time, isn't it?

@TheBirdintheCave I constantly think I'm going to see blood - I keep pulling my pants down to check :(

Great to hear about the many 3+ tests! I won't be doing one as testing was just feeding my anxiety so I stopped when I got a dye stealer on a cheapie.

@JadeelxI don't think we'll go for the NIPT testing ourselves. Can imagine it's great peace of mind though.

@PumpkinEverything that made me laugh about you checking if she was still a girl 😂DH doesn't even know it's possible to get a gender scan at 16 weeks - think he would be all for it! My worry is just what if they told us one thing and then at the 20 week NHS scan it turned out to be wrong? Not because I care what it is, because that really doesn't matter - but I think that once I know, my bond will just feel a bit different. Silly really because I'd love and treat a son or a daughter exactly the same, but I don't want to think they're one thing when it turns out they're the other. Does that make sense or am I just rambling? 😂

Rowanandremy · 02/12/2022 23:35

@PumpkinEverything I absolutely demolished the dark Terry's chocolate orange, it was almost as bad as when we get after eights as a treat at Christmas 🤣 good job DW doesn't like dark choc because she wasn't getting a look in 🤣

Yeah I was shocked too, it does seem a little early. DD was a little monkey for her gender scan, she refused to open her legs until the last possible moment - literally the sonographic did one last pass before giving up and rescheduling us when she got the money shot 😂 we had the NHS scan at 20 weeks that also confirmed it, apparently DD wasn't as shy then because she was flip flopping all over the place and flashing her bum - I didn't get to see that because they didn't turn the screen for me but DW had a better vantage point and told me afterwards. Then we had the 3d or is it 4d scan? Whichever it is we had that and then there wasn't any doubting it 🤣
We had a little bet because I was adamant she was a girl and DW was sure it was a boy that whoever got it right got to pick an outfit. I got a set of dresses that we've still got for her memory box. We did still have a lot of neutral clothes that we've kept because we knew we wanted to try for another.

sinloutox · 03/12/2022 07:35

Welcome all the new guys 🥰
I’m going to step away for a couple of weeks - I made the fatal error of testing again. FRERs getting lighter at 5 + 1 and still not progressing to 2 - 3 weeks on the CB so I have a feeling this isn’t going to end as we’ve hoped! Will let you all know after the early scan though (you never know, maybe I’ll get to rejoin you after all!) ❤️

LS888 · 03/12/2022 07:37

Sorry to hear that @sinloutox. hope you get positive news at your scan xx

sinloutox · 03/12/2022 08:01

Thanks @LS888 - trying to stay positive but if it doesn’t we’ll try again 😀 will keep you all posted either way x

katiehx · 03/12/2022 08:01

Hi mummies! 🥰

I discovered last night that I'm expecting a baby (my first one!) after testing twice, once on the 7th day and another on the 8th day of my missed period. I've been up my sleeves reading everything I could about what to eat/not eat or expect in the first trimester.

I'm just about to book an appointment with the gynae, but it's been exciting and surreal so far. I have all the symptoms - nausea, fatigue, heightened sense of smell, and cramps in my lower abdomen.

I read that it's recommended to get the first scan only in the 8th week. I'm in my 5th week, is it too early to see a gynae?

Jadeelx · 03/12/2022 08:28

Exactly I hear about some NHS trusts offering it if you get a high risk result from the normal 12 week screen as an alternative to amniocentesis.
I do it early because if I got a high risk result from the NHS screen and then had to do that it would set my anxiety through the roof waiting, I’ve had previous miscarriages and in my mind it’s like finding out any potential issues sooner and being prepared? I know it’s probably unnecessary but just for my peace of mind or to be prepared? I don’t do it for gender.

Jadeelx · 03/12/2022 08:28

Sorry I find it really hard to tag people in replies! Lol

Shannon88 · 03/12/2022 08:39

Hiya girlies. Hope use don’t mind me hopping in. I’ve had a whirlwind experience with my pregnancy so far with my levels not progressing at the start to now them doubling all this week am told they see it as a pregnancy now and that I’m maybe just behind on dates so I’m brought back around 1-2 weeks so looks like if all goes well it’ll be a august baby now ha

TheBirdintheCave · 03/12/2022 08:58

@sinloutox Sorry to hear that :( Fingers crossed everything is well at the scan! ❤️

Welcome newbies! And congratulations! :D

I feel a little more sick this morning, so that's made me feel slightly more positive. We're telling some of our best friends today as they're coming for lunch with our little niece 🥰

TheBirdintheCave · 03/12/2022 09:01

@katiehx Where abouts in the world are you? The word 'gynae' made me unsure as we just have GPs and midwives here 🤔

As to early scans, private scan companies recommend booking them no earlier than seven weeks :)

PumpkinEverything · 03/12/2022 09:13

@DesertSnow i know, I was going a bit crazy 😂😂 I really didn’t mind what we had, but I just wanted to be sure they were right! I think it was also because people kept commenting on how it looked like I was carrying a boy and then they started convincing me too 🙈

that’s so lovely about the memory box @Rowanandremy I’ve kept all my daughters clothes in boxes in the attic, but even if we have a boy there’ll be some favourite outfits I’ll want to keep forever 🥰

really hope all goes okay at the scan @sinloutox and the wait isn’t too long ♥️

Congrats and welcome @katiehx ! I wouldn’t book a scan any earlier than 7 weeks to give you a higher chance of seeing a heartbeat incase your dates are off.

welcome @Shannon88 sounds like you’ve been off to a crazy start! Do you have another scan booked in?

katiehx · 03/12/2022 09:36

@TheBirdintheCave Haha I'm from Malaysia! We call them gynae over here. It's short form for gynaecologists and it's the same as GPs and midwives :)

@PumpkinEverything Oh thank you so much! Alrighty, I'll just book one in a week or two then.

Daisy1992 · 03/12/2022 10:19

Morning everyone, sorry I am just catching up! I am only catching up sorry, hope everyone is feeling okay!

I have a question for anyone who has used a Clearblue digital - how long does it show Positive for? I have just done mine this morning and planning to use it to tell my DH tonight, but then panicked the word might have disappeared by then 🙈

Daisy1992 · 03/12/2022 10:21

Sorry, I wrote the same sentence twice 🤣 my current symptoms are feeling like I'm hungover and not with it at all as you can see haha

AnnieApple123 · 03/12/2022 10:22

@DesertSnow I’m constantly pulling pants down here too!

For those who don’t know, there are blood tests now which can tell you the gender from 6 weeks. sneakpeektest.com/uk/

So sorry to read this @sinloutox . I really hope your suspicions are wrong. ❤️

My cramping has eased a lot. I’m hoping this isn’t a bad sign, which is so ironic as it worried me terribly when it was bad.

AnnieApple123 · 03/12/2022 10:29

Welcome @katiehx @Shannon88 and @Daisy1992

I can’t remember exactly how long Clearblue digital keep on showing a result. It definitely isn’t forever. Does it say anywhere in the directions?

OP posts:
AnnieApple123 · 03/12/2022 10:36

@Jadeelx My thinking is the same about NIPT. I want to do the test which is most accurate from the very start and not have to worry about false positives and false negatives. It’s certainly not cheap though unfortunately.

OP posts:
ChloeN · 03/12/2022 10:43

@Daisy1992 is it a weeks indicator? If so think mine has lasted 24 hours max. But think it’s the clearblue ultra early lasts about 6 months xx

PumpkinEverything · 03/12/2022 10:43

I’m not 100% sure @Daisy1992 but I’m pretty sure it’ll still be there tonight. I don’t think it disappears just as fast as that but I’m not sure!
