Induction update: more waiting to come.

The 15 hr check after the dilapan rods were placed showed cervix only partially open (the external part open a few cm but the internal part closed still), so now I have been given the prostaglandin (propess) pessary and another 24 hours of waiting. Continue baby heart rate monitoring every 4-6 hrs.

Apparently the pessary is more likely to start contractions and possibly water breaking. We'll see.

@TheOnlyException1 I’m also 40 weeks today, have had false starts for the last week and have a midwife appointment on Monday! I’m definitely going to be having a sweep while I’m there. If you think there’s a chance you might want one I’d recommend taking paracetamol 1 hour beforehand. From memory with DS I don’t think it was anymore uncomfortable than a smear. Also, wear a pad just in case of any spotting. DS was born within 36 hours of me having one so I’m hoping for the same with this one (if he hasn’t made an appearance before then!).

Congratulations to all the new mamas and welcome to the new babies. Good luck to everyone currently being/waiting to be induced.

TeamBluex4 · 03/12/2022 23:30

@Bluebonnet3 aww bless you hopefully it won't be too much waiting for you like it was with my first ever induction (but definitely my last!!) How many cm's dialated were you prior to being induced?

Slisha · 04/12/2022 04:42

@Bluebonnet3 hopefully not too long now! Good luck and lots of hugs...

Bluebonnet3 · 04/12/2022 06:05

@TeamBluex4 not dilated at all when the induction process started. The plan was early induction (37+2) because baby is really small, around 4th centile.

I'm currently on a baby heart beat monitor and they say they will move me to labour ward shortly to see if they can break waters (instead of waiting for this evening). We'll see. I expect more waiting! Today is 37+4.

PinkButtercups · 04/12/2022 19:45

Bluebonnet3 · 04/12/2022 20:50

Fantastic news @PinkButtercups !!! Well done!

Rose2022 · 04/12/2022 21:11

Congratulations @PinkButtercups 🥰
How is everyone doing?
I’m 38+2 and starting to get a little bit fed up with lack of sleep and pelvic pain!
I did finally finish work last week though so hopefully can fit some naps in now 😊

Healthy baby boy born by c section today at 11:30am! 💙💙💙

After lots of waiting and slow induction progress starting 2 days ago Fri morning, I was transferred to labour ward today at 7am, then waters broken at 8am -- OMG that was painful, and gas and air barely helped! Probably not the actual breaking of waters that was painful but the examination to get through the cervix which was only dilated 2cm. Huge gush of waters, as in the movies.

After perhaps an hour I got a couple of stronger contractions and baby was having none of it. Heart rate dropped and entire team rushed me in to theatre. Quite dramatic and scary. Then baby's heart rate stabilised, and I got a choice of trying to return to labour attempt or changing to c section. Decided on emergency c section and spinal local anaesthetic. (Ended up needed 2x the anaesthetic to numb my lower half, but it worked and has worn off well.) Procedure went well and had a healthy baby boy with a hefty pair of lungs judging by the first cries, 5 lbs 7 oz (apparently below 3rd centile) but otherwise seems perfect.

We have both been learning how to do a combination of breast feeding and manually expressing to a syringe and feeding from the syringe. It's not being that straightforward and he is quite small and I apparently have flat nipples! So the latch is tricky. But we will persist, as he needs food (although I'm not ruling out topping up with formula while we're in hospital if he needs it,) as he's out early in order to feed him up!

What a day! We have a baby!

MariaDingbat · 05/12/2022 07:41

Congratulations on all the new arrivals and to the mamma's!

My little girl arrived by section last Monday and we've had a great week getting to know her. Her big sister is delighted to have her home. Everything went to plan with the birth thankfully and we were home after 36 hours but I've been left with the worse bruising the community midwife has ever seen so not sure what's going on there.

TeamBluex4 · 05/12/2022 09:51

@Bluebonnet3 @PinkButtercups congratulations to you both! 🥰 @PinkButtercups any chance of a photo of the twins? Are they identical? Have they got a name? 😊

Chanel05 · 05/12/2022 14:11

Anyone else completely knackered? I'm 37+4 and feel wiped doing nothing!!

I worked until 39 weeks with my daughter and I'm not sure how because I don't recall being this tired. Wish me luck anyway as I'm about to drag my toddler to Asda and Aldi!

Hoping my baby wants to show up soon 🤞🏽

Jaaxe · 05/12/2022 23:45

Congratulations @PinkButtercups and @Bluebonnet3 glad everything went well! How are they doing with feeding? Was there no nicu needed at all? X

MadamMaltesers · 06/12/2022 01:54

Congratulations @MariaDingbat on your baby girl!

Orcarain · 06/12/2022 11:11

@Chanel05 I'm 37+4 as well, and only just starting to feel tired and finding it difficult to walk!

This pregnancy has been a breeze, with a tiny blip at the start. Now I feel my centre of gravity has completely shifted. I keep waking up bang on 5am as well, and not able to get back to sleep. But if that's all... I'm not complaining.

I'm not coming off work until next Friday, keep having dreams my waters go at work!

This weekend we're getting both of our cars cleaned and car seats fitted. Think I'll be slightly calmer once this is done. Just feel like everything has caught up with us! Didn't help moving house in November 😂

Jaaxe · 06/12/2022 17:00

Elective csection for me tomorrow morning eeeek…. excited to meet my baby and find out if it’s a boy or girl, pooing my pants for the csection though and hoping it goes as well as it can do 😬 feeling like I could do with another few days of prep for the baby but it’s crept up on me too! Xxx

Rose2022 · 07/12/2022 09:17

Good luck today @Jaaxe x

TheOnlyException1 · 07/12/2022 11:59

Congratulations to the new mommas! And good luck @Jaaxe , hope you have baby by now!
I am now 40+4, and trying not to stress, but I'm finding this last week waiting absolutely agonising. I had a sweep on Monday, which seemed to give me a few period like pains and release a bit more of the plug but nothing else yet.. I was 1-2cm dilated and the cervix was soft and partially effaced though, so I guess heading in the right direction.. I have been booked for an induction next Monday if he doesn't get a move on before then, so I'm just really hoping things do kick off by themselves, but at least I have a latest date to have him out and in my arms! I'm a FTM and everyone keeps asking if there is any update, and I know it's irrational, but I'm just really trying not to feel defeated and like a failure that it's not started yet 😅sorry for the ramble!

MrsN3 · 07/12/2022 16:19

Hello everyone! congrats on so many baby’s being born!
and good luck to those still waiting- I personally had a positive birth (and quick)

lsboured at home all day (1am bloody show and period pains then all pain stopped late morning around 11ish, pain returned at 1pm ish and by 3 was really a lot. Used the freya birth app to track contractions and breathe through them. Had a bath and paracetamol then headed to hospital at 8.30 as I’d cleared out my body both ends and knee things were close) arrived on birthing suite at 9 and was 4cm dilated. Had gas and air and husband massaged essential oils on my lower back. I breathed through each contraction holding onto a comb and at 11 baby was born.

our little surprise was a girl and she weighed less than 6lbs so smaller than growth scab but she’s healthy and we’re so in love.
if Anyone is still waiting I strongly recommend the birth app and a comb for pain management- whatever happens though ladies remember “your body knows what it is doing and your baby knows too” ❤️

HayleyBean · 07/12/2022 17:12

@MrsN3 I 100% agree, my body knew exactly what it was doing and I just trusted in my body to do its thing. The transition into active labour was incredible and the feeling of my baby moving down and up the birth canal is something I'll remember forever!

Sierra1961 · 07/12/2022 18:41

Guys! I’m due around the 22nd but just had something strange happen.

I’ve gone to get a bath, taken my leggings off and there was a brown substance all down my inner thighs. At first I thought it was poo, but I’d know if I poo’d myself and it’s only at the front - so I’m thinking it’s from the vagina? 😳 it didn’t smell like poo, more kind of like vaginal discharge around your period type thing (sorry for TMI!!!) - you know that musky smell?

Does anyone know if this sounds like the bloody show/mucus plug?!
