I had an underactive thyroid in my 3rd pg. I didn't have any problems conceiving but as soon as I was pg I was sent to see a consultant, had a full Thyroid Function Test (TSH, FT4 and FT3) and my dose was upped by 50mg to allow for the extra demands on my thyroid caused by the pg. I also had to have 6 weekly blood tests to check my levels throughout my pg.

What dose of thyroxine are you on at the moment? Do you know your TSH and FT3/4 levels

sambrads · 29/01/2008 07:58

hi ya thanks for your help !!!

my thyroid is sorted out as i am on 150mg and it has been leveled out fine !!

i get my blood tests done every 6 weeks !!!

the doc says because my thyroid went so low it stopped myperiods but when i increased it my periods returned!!

she said in some cases that you may just need a small boast to ovulate thats why i was on clomid !

i am only 5 weeks going to the docs today to see whats happening !!!

as i had my thyroid sorted out i dont think i have anything to stress about but i wanted to hear other people stories!!!!!

I take levothyroxine to too previous thyroidectomy due to thyroid cancer and the specialists monitor me carefully every 4 weeks because as my pregnancy has progressed my baby's demand for my thyroxine has increased. My levels were stable until I got pregnant and now they are being adjusted every 4-6 weeks!

sambrads, delighted you are pregnant so soon after starting clomid Reading this thread with interest as will be quite worried about thyroid management when I get my long awaited bfp.

I guess everyone is individual so leonie can't really tell you what dose you should be on - you need to be guided by your results (and you need to be monitored frequently during pregnancy)and your doctor (who hopefully is knowledgable about thyroid conditions - if not, you should be referred to an endocrinologist).

Good luck with your pregnancy and hopefully I won't be far behind you and we can compare notes

sambrads · 03/02/2008 08:53

hi ya ladylush thanks so much for the words of kindness

i am feeling alot more calm now about my thyroid as my doc is not worried so i should notstress hopefully you will get your bfp very soon

Glad you are feeling calm about the thyroid sambrads. How long had you been ttc? My gp said clomid would only be used after 12 months of ttc, but I suppose if a blood test showed I wasn't ovulating it wouldn't be fair of them to make me wait another 6 months. Particularly as I'm 36.

sambrads · 03/02/2008 12:09

i had been trying 8 months my doc had tested my blood 7 times and thought it was the best thing to do

i would say they will give you it no problem

how long have you been trying ??
is thiis your first??

No I've got a 3 1/2 yr old ds. I've been trying for a long time (about 1 1/2 years)and have had 3 m/c. I always got pg quickly - this seems to have changed after my last m/c in July. I hope it's just the elevated TSH causing the problem.
