Is anyone else absolutely EXHAUSTED still? I’m almost 24 weeks and really considered calling in sick to work today as I’m so tired. Where is the glow I was promised?!

wintersun21 · 25/01/2023 12:25

@Awkwardusername I feel like weeks 16-20 was my peak. I'm now nearly 26 weeks and struggling with back pain so not sleeping. Hard to tell whether it's general fatigue or lack of sleep that's getting to me but feel your pain.

For anyone struggling with their mental health self refer to iesohealth. It's free to NHS patients and being pregnant we go to the top of the list. I referred myself in December and there was a week between my first appointment and my referral. It's been so so helpful. Please don't suffer in silence. You can choose if they feed back to your GP or not.

Janch13 · 25/01/2023 14:03

@Awkwardusername I wasnt, but I am now! I had loads of energy the last few weeks but this week I am absolutely shattered and it’s hit me like a tonne of bricks! I’m also waking 3am to about 4:30/5am which doesn’t help at all.

RugbyGirl1 · 25/01/2023 16:37

@Awkwardusername yep shattered. Work seems to have picked up with loads of little random pieces of work, rather than some of the bigger tasks I'm used to, which isn't helping, either. Also waking up early like @Janch13

raffika · 25/01/2023 19:06

Yep, I’m feeling very tired this last couple of weeks and, like @Janch13, I’m waking up early. I’m also still feeling uncomfortable in my shoulders, neck and back from side sleeping.

I’m due 8th May and not finishing work until the end of April. I’ve got 4 particularly hectic weeks between now and then, and I’m questioning whether I can do it (I’ll have to, it’s my job and financially I need to be at work as long as possible, but it’s going to be rubbish).

Janch13 · 28/01/2023 12:49

Anyone got any recommendations of where to buy some comfy maternity knickers? All of my usual ones are SO uncomfy now. Planning on going out today to get some new. Thanks

raffika · 28/01/2023 18:14

@Janch13 I bought M&S high legs one size up from my usual size - they sit in just the right place that they aren’t rolling down and the extra space means they’re really comfy 😬 This was a tip from my boss, she said this worked right through to postnatal.

Oh my god yes, my finger tips are now almost permanently numb from side sleeping! I have a MW appointment today and I'll ask her about it but it's stressing me out quite a bit.

I'm another tired one here, I had to go away for work for 3 days and I was exhausted. I slept for about 10 hours when I finally got back home.

I've also noticed my nose is getting bigger... I knew this could happen but it's really upsetting to see! Anyone else getting this?

Janch13 · 30/01/2023 11:02

Thanks @raffika i got 2 packs and can confirm they are comfy!

Irishgirl55 · 30/01/2023 16:51

Anyone else really struggling with names? We aren't finding out what we are having and neither of us have any ideas.

Have a DS already and was so sure we thought it was going to be a girl so hadn't really thought of boys names last time.

raffika · 30/01/2023 19:59

@TheBeesKnee I finally bit the bullet and bought a BBHugMe pillow, helped by my work bonus. It’s lovely and I’m much comfier and sleeping better. My husband has stolen my other maternity pillow 🤣

@Janch13 glad you got sorted, there’s not much worse than uncomfortable knickers!

@Irishgirl55 were convinced it’s a boy, and we have a boy name but friends keep saying we shouldn’t be so convinced, so I can see us ending up with a girl and no girl names! We’ve used the Kinder app and have some girl names we both like, but nothing is jumping out at us like it did with the boy name!

RugbyGirl1 · 30/01/2023 20:24

@TheBeesKnee i had no idea a nose getting bigger was a pregnancy thing???

@raffika my bbhugme arrived today and I am sooooo looking forward to sleep tonight 😂

Janch13 · 30/01/2023 20:25

@Irishgirl55 we’re in the exact same position. We have a few that we like but don’t LOVE. We had our DS1 name picked out from the beginning and he was only ever going to be that so we didn’t have any others. I know we’ll decide eventually but I do feel a bit sad that I don’t have one I adore and am so excited to use as we did the first time. We didn’t know what we were having and I remember desperately hoping it was going to be a boy just because I so wanted to use his name.

TheBeesKnee · 30/01/2023 23:37

@RugbyGirl1 it's because of the relaxin hormone, your cartilage relaxes and kind of expands. Very helpful for childbirth but it's all over your body.

Have a look at the "pregnancy nose" tag on tiktok.

buuuka86 · 31/01/2023 06:36

@TheBeesKnee I looked it up on tiktok, it made my laugh to be honest 😅I then found some before and after photos of my friends with babies and none of them seemed to have had it. I think it's rare and the nose goes back to normal afterwards so I wouldn't worry.

There are many apps for name picking. I also looked at some top lists online (but mostly to avoid those names haha), considered names of people who are/were close to us, and was paying lots of attention to names when meeting people, watching tv, reading, etc. It's not easy though.

We are looking at nurseries (queues are massive here) and I've realised that our criteria are completely different. I want a warm place with friendly staff, lots of equipment, nice outdoors space and a variety of activities. DH wants qualified staff, a strong curriculum (for a 1 year old?!) and good communication with parents (an app etc). The two places we've seen are the polar opposites and we're now struggling to decide. Any advice?

I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I definitely noticed I'm looking a bit more beaky!

On another note, my work has just announced a phased return to the office starting straight away. So we're expected to be in one day per week in February and two days per week in March. This coincides with my third trimester, naturally.

I happen to have plans in London on Friday anyway so I'll be going in to tick off my one day but I'm dreading how this is going to play out, and I honestly have no idea how millions of women did this before the pandemic! I'm already having "bad hip days" which I expect will only get worse. Add to that being tired all the time and I am feeling very hard done by 😅

Apologies to everyone who has had to physically go in to work this entire time, I just need to have a little whinge.

Awkwardusername · 31/01/2023 14:50

@TheBeesKnee we had a similar thing! I spoke to my boss however and said on days I physically go into the office I’m much more exhausted and it wipes me out, so he’s basically said to ignore the guidance and come in if and when I can, might be worth speaking to yours and seeing if there are any allowances!

AlwaysTryingToHelp · 31/01/2023 16:42

Hope everyone is okay, I haven't been on here for little while!
We found out we are having a baby boy 💙

Is anyone going to The baby Show at all ? I was thinking of getting tickets to Excel London in March. It is a a little further from us than I would of hoped but the closet one at NEC in Birmingham isn't until May so it will be too late! I mentioned it to DH at the weekend and he seemed excited to go, just wondered if anyone has been before!

Janch13 · 31/01/2023 17:43

@AlwaysTryingToHelp I went in my first pregnancy and found it really useful to just get everything ticked off the “to buy” list. Go with an idea of what you want (brands, models), they had good promotions when we went as well, and loads of freebie samples. I won’t be going this time as we don’t need anything but I would recommend it.

Awkwardusername · 31/01/2023 20:11

How are people managing exercise? I usually go to the gym twice a week but haven’t been for the last four or five weeks for one reason or another! Went to a Legs, Bums and Tums class tonight and knew the Tums side might be difficult but I couldn’t do anything, and the instructor didn’t give me a chance to explain I’m pregnant (and was quite rude actually). That said, it’s quite a visible 25 week bump now and others in the class mentioned it so he definitely knew, but didn’t offer any alternative exercises etc…am I expecting too much there?!
I’m absolutely exhausted now, so I don’t think I’ll make it to many more classes anyway but still!

Leostratts · 31/01/2023 20:33

Hello! Long time mumsnet reader but first day signing up and posting.. I’m due on Star Wars day 4th May! It’s my 2nd baby. Hope everyone is doing well ❤️

RugbyGirl1 · 31/01/2023 21:13

@Awkwardusername I found a local exercise class for pregnant women only from 14 weeks - super lucky as I live fairly rural and she does bump, baby and toddler classes, post partum personal training etc. And then a class or two of yoga a week, just YouTube. That's really bad of the instructor - they should have showed you alternative exercises and been aware of how to adapt them if necessary!

RugbyGirl1 · 31/01/2023 21:18

@TheBeesKnee ah thanks I'll look it up and now start panic staring at my nose to check it's not growing 😂 I've been going into the office a few days a week anyway - third day in a row tomorrow... It's a desk job but pretty stressful at times.

@Leostratts welcome! My DH would have loved that and be coming up with all sorts of Star wars related names 🙄

buuuka86 · 01/02/2023 07:56

@Awkwardusername sounds like a bad trainer indeed. If there aren't many prenatal classes in your area, I would highly recommend BodyfitwithAmy for strength (find the prenatal playlist) and Pregnancy and Postpartum TV for prenatal yoga, both on YouTube.

I was only doing pregnancy yoga once a week (in person) in the first 20 weeks. Now something switched and I'm really into it! For the past few days I've been exercising twice a day (bodyfit in the morning with weights etc, then evening yoga) which is more than I've ever done! But these are really gentle, short sessions.

I wake up at 5am nowadays and it's a nice way to make the most of my day. I then die on my sofa around lunchtime for a couple of hours but oh well 🤷

ru53 · 01/02/2023 09:09

I’m very impressed at all the exercising. I’m really missing running I used to run 2/3 times a week and thought I’d be able to just continue but I get pain in my hips now and don’t want to do myself any damage so I’ve stopped. Even walking at the moment I get really sharp round ligament pain on my right side after 10mins so I have to walk really slowly it’s very frustrating!! But I do walk every day getting to and from work so at least I’m moving my body a bit. Trying to find time to squeeze some yoga in from YouTube but really missing the buzz & endorphins from proper cardio! I think I’m at that point now where you have to accept that your body has changed a lot.
