@Awkwardusername we haven't bought a moses basket. We'll have a next to me for our bedroom and our pram bassinet is approved for baby sleeping in. We were able to buy a stand/legs for the bassinet so it'll be similar to a moses basket and we're hoping to make use of that. Anyone I know that's recently had a baby said their baby didn't like the moses basket so not holding out much hope it'll go well 🤞😂

RugbyGirl1 · 06/01/2023 13:47

@Awkwardusername I'm not planning on getting a separate Moses basket - will hopefully have a next to me type cot for the bedroom and a pram bassinet suitable for sleeping in, same as @Bananabreakfast123

Re NCT courses, I have booked on to a local one, it's two Saturdays and a Wednesday evening so not toooo bad although I'm doing it more to meet local mums to be and will be very wary of what's being said! Has anyone bought a hyonobirthing book and associated online course material? I'm about half way through my book and finding it really interesting!

RugbyGirl1 · 06/01/2023 13:49

That should have said Hypnobirthing! thepositivebirthcompany.co.uk/is the one I've gone with, think there are a few options

Awkwardusername · 06/01/2023 16:27

@RugbyGirl1 @Bananabreakfast123 we have a next to me for the bedroom so surely the Moses basket would become a bit redundant if I can use my pram bassinet?! My SIL made noises about it being easier to carry a bassinet if I needed to but I can’t think of when I’d need to? Again, might be being stupid!

Bananabreakfast123 · 06/01/2023 16:52

@Awkwardusername I've not really given moving it about much thought but I'm not sure you'd need to other than possibly room to room depending on where you're sitting. More likely to need to move the bassinet as you'd need to every time you want to use the pram. The only other time I think I'd need to carry it would be if we were staying somewhere else for the night but we'd likely be taking the pram with us anyway (bassinet folds virtually flat) and you possibly wouldn't travel with a moses basket? I've no idea. Maybe SIL can share any experience - first time mum here so possibly overlooked something obvious!

CatMad22 · 06/01/2023 16:53

@i83 I haven't booked it yet but I would like a 4D one, I can't remember if it's 25 weeks onwards? Will have to check!

CatMad22 · 06/01/2023 16:56

@RugbyGirl1 I haven't bought my own book but my mum dropped off about 6 books for me months ago but I haven't read anything 🙈 I have started listening to meditations that the hypnobirthing teacher sent me though.

@Awkwardusername you're not being stupid! Every time I research prams I want to cry because I don't know how to make the decision between them. I ordered a Snuzpod to go next to the bed and may potentially get a Moses basket as well for the living room.

Awkwardusername · 06/01/2023 18:10

@Bananabreakfast123 thats what I said! Plus if I’m downstairs the baby can go in the pram bassinet and if I’m up it can go in the next2me or in it’s own cot for a nap etc? Her house is more spread out than mine though, we basically just have one big room downstairs 🤷🏽‍♀️ she’s been really good for advice in general though, so if you need anything else let me know and I’ll pass on her wisdom 😂

@CatMad22 we were the same with prams until we went into John Lewis and did the consultation thing! We did actually completely ignore what they suggested and got a totally different pram in the Black Friday sales but it was well worth having a chat to them, if there’s a JL near you it might be worth popping in! Sooo overwhelming!

raffika · 06/01/2023 18:28

We’re going to try putting baby straight into a cot. I don’t want a bedside crib, as our dogs sleep on the bed (I know, bad habit, but I’m not going to start disrupting things, there is enough change coming) and although they’re brilliant, I want the baby to sleep where I know the dogs can’t get at them.

We’ve bought the Tutti Bambini crib for our living area, and it comes with a bag for travel so can double up as a travel cot. If baby doesn’t take to the cot, which they might not, then we can use the crib, but not placed next to the bed.

I think it’s all going to be a bit of trial and error 😬

Buntymcgiggle · 06/01/2023 18:41

Wow, some of you seem so organised. I haven't even started looking at prams, antenatal courses etc. My mum has bought the baby more stuff than I have and that's not a lot.

MommaSmith · 06/01/2023 20:06

We brought a next to me and have a pram with a carry cot built into it

I was talking to my partner if to buy something else for baby to sleep in because we have a (small) dog who will want to keep licking and likely headbutt the baby for attention 😅

The next to me is foldable and can be moved but dont think I can be bothered to move it all the time.

I dont know if to get anything else...

raffika · 06/01/2023 20:32

@MommaSmith maybe see how you go with what you’ve got. If you find you need something else, if all else fails Amazon parcels turn up next day (other stores/websites are available) 🙂

MommaSmith · 06/01/2023 20:36

Very true
Hopefully there are still good deals later in the year for anything we need

MommaSmith · 06/01/2023 20:37

On another note - has anyone experienced heart murmurs in the second trimester?

I feel like I have had two or three
Its a really wierd feeling...

lmw88 · 06/01/2023 20:44

Anyone not thinking of getting a next to me or are they definitely a good purchase? First timer and clueless here. Some love / some hate among my friends

raffika · 06/01/2023 20:59

@MommaSmith there are always bargains to be had, or you can often get stuff cheap on buy and sell pages and the like, so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

I imagine it’s palpitations you’re feeling, I’ve had a few as well. They’re due to increased blood flow arising from pregnancy, and unlikely to be harmful, but chat to your midwife if you’re worried.

Awkwardusername · 06/01/2023 21:36

@MommaSmith my heart has been very funny too, I’ve been calling it palpitations but murmurs sort of covers it too. It’s been happening for a few days now and I’ve been very concerned, rang the GP, midwife and PAU and they all just tried to send me to someone else so I don’t think it’s too worrying!

Not sure if they’re worse at night or if that’s just when I notice it more! Hope you’re okay though, are they often? Mine are fairly consistent!

TheBeesKnee · 07/01/2023 03:15

OptimusPrime31 · 05/01/2023 19:07

Wait- are you guys looking at nurseries /childminders now? Is it not way too early?

DP works in the NHS and the waiting list for a nursery at the hospital is 2 years, and you're allowed to join it when you're 12 weeks pregnant. We joined the list "late" at 16 weeks 😅 I think it really depends on where you are and how long waiting lists are.

TheBeesKnee · 07/01/2023 18:53

Also, is anyone else struggling with sleep?

I am someone who slept on my back and I'm trying to train myself to sleep on my side. However, I keep waking up with a numb right hand in the morning, regardless of which side I sleep on. I also keep waking up on my back in the middle of the night and immediately panic. I'm 22 weeks and I know that the risk of still birth increases if you're sleeping on your back from 28 weeks, so it's something I'm trying to "fix" before that deadline.

It's really stressing me out, and the only way I feel relief is on my back. I'm not sure how to address it? I will raise it at my next midwife appointment but has anyone else experienced anything similar?

raffika · 07/01/2023 22:22

@TheBeesKnee not the same but I’m finding that side sleeping really hurts my shoulders, and I find myself waking on my back. I would normally be a front sleeper. I’ve bought a huge pregnancy pillow, and I’ve been sleeping between the two sides - it helps as I’m leaning against it, so less pressure on my shoulders and less likely to roll onto my back. It was £26 from George.

Bananabreakfast123 · 07/01/2023 23:19

@TheBeesKnee I've had trouble sleeping on my side as I tend to roll to my front which is uncomfortable with bump. I find I often wake on my back in the middle of the night, probably having rolled over for some relief as I've never been a back sleeper.

I bought a pregnancy pillow that arrived this week and once I'm wrapped up in it, it's definitely more difficult to roll back and more comfortable to edge towards my front. I also wedge a pillow under my back which seems to help.

The back sleeping really worried me and I Googled it. No idea if it's true but I read that the night waking is your body protecting you and your baby, waking you up to force you to change position. I'm super risk averse though so trying to correct sleeping habits with my pillow.

I opted for the JoJo Maman Bebe microbean pillow. It's the same filling as a bbhug me at a fraction of the price and so far so good.

Buntymcgiggle · 08/01/2023 10:07

I keep getting palpitations too, and sometimes feel faint or dizzy with it. I have shoulder problems from an old injury so it's painful to sleep on my side and I often wake up on my back, which worries me. I've got a big, u shaped pillow which helps with the hip pains I've been getting, but doesn't stop the back sleeping.

RugbyGirl1 · 08/01/2023 16:51

I'm usually a back sleeper too and have also been trying to sleep on my side, resulting in dead hands and sore shoulders 🙄 not invested in a pregnancy pillow yet but I think it's time to now. Interesting about the JoJo meme one being similar to the bbhugme which I had my eye on @Bananabreakfast123

Had a random red bleed first thing this morning so of course rang the hospital who asked me to go in ASAP. Internal exam found cervical ectropian and the likely cause of the bleed. She got the Doppler out and took a nerve-wracking amount of time to find the heartbeat but all good in the end! Another anti-D injection as rhesus negative, just in case... Sunday plans ruined!

Bananabreakfast123 · 08/01/2023 17:43

@RugbyGirl1 I really wanted the bbhugme but couldn't bring myself to spend the money. The JoJo pillow was the only microbean alternative I could find. The main difference I think is that you can't adjust the firmness (BB has pebbles on each end) but I've not yet felt like I needed that (she says after two nights). There's enough flexibility in it that it moulds to my body and is firm enough once I've got it in place. I don't think I realised how much my hips, back and shoulders were struggling until I used the pillow. You can also buy a second pillow to turn it in to a nest for when baby arrives.

Really sorry to hear about your hospital visit today, that must have been so stressful but I'm pleased it was a positive outcome for you. An excuse for a Sunday night treat!

RugbyGirl1 · 08/01/2023 19:31

Thanks @Bananabreakfast123 it was a bit worrying but thankfully all OK. Best to get it checked out and the midwife and doctor were so lovely and helpful and didn't make me feel like I was being a nuisance 😊 that's so helpful about the pillow, thanks, Im definitely at the stage where I could do with a bit of extra support!
