Why don’t you just tell people?

toastofthetown · 26/10/2022 09:52

I think a cake is the best way to do it. No litter, no waste or additional strain on the planet’s resources, no risk of death or forest fires and you get to eat cake afterwards!

Amazongirl9 · 26/10/2022 09:54

My friend’s daughter did party cannons , you can get the appropriate colour.

ChagSameachDoreen · 26/10/2022 10:22

"It's a boy/girl."

Honestly, very few people care if the child has a penis or vagina.

theDudesmummy · 26/10/2022 10:23

Here's an idea. Just tell people (if you want to).

toomuchlaundry · 26/10/2022 10:25

Just tell people. Who needs more wasteful tat

If a friend of mine was pregnant I would be happy if it was a boy or a girl, and I wouldn’t need to go to a party to be told. Would be quite happy with a text

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/10/2022 10:26

Just talk to people?

Redup · 26/10/2022 10:27

I hoped the cost of living crisis would be the end to these tacky "reveal" parties along with ending overseas "hennies". I mean, there has to be something good come out of this.

pinkyredrose · 26/10/2022 10:27

Fireworks? Jeez. Why not take out an ad in your local paper?

RealDeeBliss · 26/10/2022 10:30

Why do people need to know? They'll find out in a few months.

Kindofcrunchy · 26/10/2022 10:30

Just do a cake, everyone likes a surprise cake!

SmilingHappyBeaver · 26/10/2022 10:30

Please just don't, so tacky and literally no-one cares. Your friends/family will be thrilled whatever it is.

SaltedPrune · 26/10/2022 10:31

Isn't this an American thing? I'd just do a cake if you really want to...

Speedweed · 26/10/2022 10:34

It's not gender, it's a sex reveal.

Agree with pp, sex reveal parties are tacky.

USaYwHatNow · 26/10/2022 10:35

I'm a midwife and am maybe a bit old fashioned (!?) but we found out the sex of our baby boy at a private scan, just the two of us. They then printed off about 4 or 5 different images of our baby for us. Our way of 'revealing' the sex was to hand the pictures over to our family members, and the last one was a 'potty shot' (I think that's what they call it??) of his dingle with 'it's a boy' printed on the scan. That was enough for me, I cba with the whole reveal thing but I get others are into it. How about individual cake pops for people?

Daisychainsx · 26/10/2022 14:24

I knew you'd get slated for this, MN hates a reveal. All I'll say is my family were delighted when I told them I was having a boy. They would have been delighted to know if it was a girl too. Everyone just couldn't wait to find out either way. People do care! Not everyone, maybe not distant friends, but I'm sure your family care and if it's something you want to celebrate, go for it! I just told them via a big video call after the appointment, and I did a screen record and sent that to my close friends.
I do think party cannons, coloured balloons and things that are only done to be recorded and posted on Facebook are a bit over done, but maybe something like a pinata for your friends and family to make a game out of, or those scratch cards that reveal 3 boys or girls. Or just tell them, it was pretty magical just telling them then showing them the potty shot photo. People will be just as happy with an 'ITS A BOY!' as they would be with an elaborate reveal!

WorrieaboutFIL · 26/10/2022 14:26

Please don't, it's just cringe

BlueKaftan · 26/10/2022 14:26

Drive around town with a megaphone.

MarthanotMarfa · 26/10/2022 14:29

Why not give birth, then look at the baby and see if it’s a boy or a girl. Then after that…tell people. Utterly ridiculous and as others have said it’s cringeworthy.

OriginalUsername2 · 26/10/2022 14:33

Another for don’t do it. Too cringe. Just tell them with words and celebrate. People do care, but not THAT much.

astarsheis · 26/10/2022 14:37

Personally I find the whole sex reveal so cringe... and fireworks is just about the worst way of 'revealing' that I've heard of.
I think mums don't realise these days just how exciting it is when that baby comes out and they tell you what it is, especially for the first one.

Fundays12 · 26/10/2022 14:48

If you really want to do it a cake is a good option less mess and tasty. Honestly though most people I know inwardly cringe when invited to a gender reveal party including myself. Though I am always polite an decline the invite.

Also be aware not all sex scans are accurate I know of 4 people who were told the opposite sex to what they had (one had been told 3 times she was having a bit but had a girl). For this reason I never went OTT on coloured items.

Something completely unique, like fireworks but not fireworks? Hmm...How about:

  • Improvised explosive device. Get a robot to walk across the minefield and when the IED (and robot) explode, either pink or blue smoke erupts from the explosion.
  • Live cow milking. Feed the cow blue or pink food colouring and then invite family and friends to squeeze their udders until either blue or pink milk starts squirting into the bucket.
  • Vaginal ping-pong. Someone (unseen by you) inserts either pink or blue ping-pong balls into your vagina. You face your family and friends and fire the ping-pong balls out, revealing your baby's sex. Bonus: exercise for your pelvic floor muscles. Can never do too many of them!
  • Plant-based reveal. Choose a rhododendron, hydrangea, or other plant whose blooms are a different colour depending on the pH level of your soil. Determine an area of soil where the pH level corresponds to the anticipated sex of your foetus. Plant the plant and invite your family and friends to come and watch and wait until the flowers bloom either pink or blue. Make sure you don't plant in an ambivalent area and get purple flowers!
  • Chemical reveal. Choose an element from the periodic table which will burn with either a pink or blue flame. Acquire a large quantity of this element and set it on fire.
Sikaris · 26/10/2022 15:04

It's either a boy or a girl and only you, your parents and siblings might care. The rest is just pretending to care to not fuck up your friendship/ relationship.

If you want a party, throw a baby party after the baby has arrived. Nobody cares about gender but almost everyone loves meeting a squishy newborn baby!
