How to know who the father of my child is

i just found I am pregnant and have irregular periods so it’s difficult to know when I ovulate. I slept with 2 people in a 9 day period, I know most would be able to know as a fertile window is 7 days but because I have irregular periods I’m not sure.

my period started 04/10/22 and I slept with #guy1 condom split so was a accident 7/10/22 whilst on my period, I finished my period two days later 09/10/22. I slept with #guy2 15/10/22 no protection but used pull out method. However we was unsure if he pulled out in time so I got the morning after pill 16/10/22.

my app does a average on my period based on my irregular cycles and said that I ovulated 15/10/22. I was nervous because I was told if I have already ovulated the morning after pill don’t work.
Anyway I tested for pregnancy 22/10/22- negative 23/10/22- negative 23/10/22- faintest line.
My app says that I wasn’t ovulating or in a ovulation cycle when I slept with #guy1 as I was on day 4 my menstrual cycle but I’m still nervous.

however I was thinking if I actually am pregnant with #guy1 then wouldn’t I have shown positive earlier as technically my period would be starting 25/10/22 and would mean I have a 21 day cycle. Symptoms for pregnancy started 21/10/22 and with #guy2 and my period
prediction is 29/10/22 so getting a faint positive today on a FRER would mean I am pregnant with #guy2 surely?

could you give me some advice please!!! What do you think?
hopefully no judgement

I’m afraid that there’s no way no know unless you decide to continue with the pregnancy and have a DNA test once baby is born. Even with regular cycles the dates are too close together to be sure but with an irregular cycle it’s impossible, sorry,

anotherscroller · 24/10/2022 11:38

It seems strange that you could be pregnant if you took the morning after pill?

Morning after pill only works if your body hasn't started ovulation as it delays it. If you are ovulating already it doesn't work

Anon778833 · 24/10/2022 11:43

It’s probably the second guy, I’d say. But only a DNA test will confirm once the baby is born.

The morning after pill is not very reliable. I asked the GP for it once and she said if you absolutely can’t be pregnant then you need to have a coil put in, so I did.

astoundedgoat · 24/10/2022 11:43

The irrelgular periods make it impossible to say for sure, although it seems highly unlikely to be No. 1.

Are you carrying on with the pregnancy, though?

I agree unfortunately. No way you could know. Maybe an STI test would be advisable too especially given you are pregnant

America12 · 24/10/2022 11:54

Seems more likely to be guy 2 if you were on a period when you had sexual with guy 2 ?
Have you decided what you want to do ?

If you have already ovulated it wouldn't work. So if I ovulated when my cycle says the 15/10/22 and took the pill 16/10/22 my GP said it wouldn't work

I mean I'm worried because my cycle has been irregular but based upon my cycle and it's expected Ovulation it says I was fertile and ovulating the day I had unprotected sex with Guy2 and I wasn't ovulating with guy one as I was on my period.
This should give me reassure but like I said with my periods being irregular I'm naturally worried

Guy #2 it would more likely you ovulated on the 15th. Even if the condom split with guy #1 sperm survive 5-7 days max.

I agree, if you look at this pic of my calculation 7/10/22 is when I had sex with guy 1
15/10/22 is when I had sex with guy two.

24/10/22 is my faint line so I'm assuming if I was pregnant with guy 1 I would of had a positive pregnancy test from earlier

(Pink is my period start to finish)
(Purple is my fertile window)

Likely #2 but DNA test needed to know for sure. You probably have to tell them both? If you're planning on saying anything at all that is. And get an STI check.

Yeah, I know it's possible but unlikely to be fertile when on your period, I've put my period/ovulation prediction below if you would like to see what I mean.

Thanks

Most likely situation is guy 2 and you had already ovulated so MAP didn’t work.

Original poster I think hahaha

The only way to know for definite is by a DNA test.
You can’t tell for definite by what you’ve given us unfortunately.

Are you planning on keeping the baby?

And will that decision be based on who the father is?

I want to Keep it regardless of who it is. Espesh with having troubles with fertility in the past, so I'm happy regardless.

It's impossible to tell for a number of reasons including irregular periods and ovulation, sperm can last 5 days etc.

I also have the same app and in the past was tracking ovulation and the exact date rarely matched the app.

It's going to be impossible to know without a DNA test. Sorry

IncompleteSenten · 24/10/2022 13:30

The only way to know will be a DNA test.

In that case I would be telling both of them and say that you’ll be doing a DNA test.

Chances are as they will not want to be involved but I think it’s best to be honest incase they do.

Doing a DNA test after the baby is born is very easy.

You can do it before it’s born but I don’t know much about this and I believe it’s more expensive and more risky but it would be nice to know beforehand, especially if the potential dads say they want to be involved.

Unseelie · 24/10/2022 14:03

It’s extremely likely to be guy two. We know the morning after pill failed, and we know that you ovulated (as you’re pregnant!) so the only question is: when did you ovulate?

Two options exist:

  1. between day 2-9 of your cycle (because sperm can survive for a week), or
  2. between day 10-13 of your cycle.

It’s not impossible that it’s option one, but that would involve both you ovulating extremely early and his sperm surviving for a week. Incredibly unlikely.

Much more likely is option two: a woman’s most fertile period is days 12-15 of her cycle and you had unprotected sex on day 12.

Congratulations! I’ve had fertility issues and wish you and your baby all the best.
