Hi everyone, this is my first baby so don't have a clue...how many vests roughly do you think i should buy? A friend said one packet in each size but to me that doesn't seem like enough? Especially if there's need for changing multiple times a day haha! Id like a couple extra than needed :)

I got clothes from a friend and bought very little. I can’t remember how many, probably more than 1 in each size?

I don’t remember having to change her multiple times a day for the first 6 months, it’s when they start on solid food that it might get messy, but even that can get mitigated if you have long sleeved plastic covers for mealtimes.

what I’d recommended is a big pack of muslin squares. Good for a lot of things like putting them on your shoulder when burping the baby, otherwise YOU might have to change your clothes multiple times a day :))

Babynum2 · 03/11/2022 14:47

I would say 10 vests if you dont want to be constantly washing.

MarigoldMoonStone · 03/11/2022 15:40

You are probably best buying less of the small sizes because baby could be born too big for them..or buy very near the end and keep receipt.
That’s if it will be easy enough for someone to pop out and get you some more if needed.

I think in excitement though you just end up buying more than needed haha.
Also I feel like the newborn size (usually up to 7.something lbs) definitely fits bigger than they say!

Room4onemore · 03/11/2022 16:16

My babies are generally between 8-9lb so I buy first size from Asda which is upto 9lb 9

Perexi · 03/11/2022 16:44

I had my telephone consultant appointment today who confirmed it's just because I'm 40 rather than an issue! Apparently after the 37 week scan I'd be having twice weekly check ups and they would (if I want) do a sweep and then if natural Labour hasn't kicked in by 39 week's I'd be induced! I'm only 19 week's and haven't even had it confirmed all ok at the 20 week scan yet but nice to know the schedule!

Thanks @Pickles23 that makes sense will see if I can get booked in!

Dreamingof3 · 03/11/2022 17:23

I'm on baby no.3 and still stuck on what size to buy 😅 my eldest was measuring big so we got all up to 1 month and then they were too small!
Second predicted smaller so we went with up to one month again and she was 7lb7 so we had to get newborn and even that was big in her for a while.
Waiting for our growth scans this time to get an idea of what we need 😅

Rose429 · 03/11/2022 20:16

Anyone feels like they’re not gaining enough weight? My morning sickness while was not severe, I lost probably a pound or two by the 12W check up. During 20W scan, my baby measured 352g so at 75th% but I have only gained 2kg compared to 12W. Baby also has abdominal circumference at 94th% so she’s probably growing well, just worry about my own weight.

havanamama · 03/11/2022 20:40

No one has weighed me since 7 week Booking appointment.

I deffo have bigger boobs and waist and a bump but otherwise not sure 🤔

Babynum2 · 03/11/2022 21:11

@Rose429 im 22 weeks and still weigh less than what i was pre pregnancy but have a big-ish belly. I was exactly the same in both my pregnancies before this.

LittleAcorn20 · 03/11/2022 22:00

@Rose429 I have low BMI and I don't easily put on weight. I'm not keeping any sort of track of my own weight really. In my last pregnancy I lost weight until way past 20 weeks. I have a funny relationship with anxiety and food and I was particularly bad in my my last pregnancy with my mental health. Similarly to @Babynum2 I also was weighing less than my pre-pregnancy weight at 21 weeks last time for sure as I remember that's when I was in hospital for my mental health and they checked my weight then. The doctors always told me not to worry too much about my own weight so long as babys growth was fine. I've had quite bad morning sickness both times too. This time particularly so.
If you know baby is growing well, and if you feel ok in yourself (as in, you don't feel like you've got weight loss to the point it is affecting your functioning or causing you concern e.g. fatigue, energy levels, worrying about significant weight loss) I would just keep on plodding on and don't worry about yourself putting on a certain amount. But reach out if you do feel worried by all means.
In pregnancy personally I find my appetite goes through phases of being either surpressed some weeks (sickness, heartburn, feeling like there's less space in my stomach to eat because of baby pushing on my organs) and then weeks where I can eat for England and eat waaaayyyy more than I ever would not pregnant. Especially increased appetite in second trimester

dmb91 · 03/11/2022 22:41

@Rose429 I'm 19+3 and have lost a stone and a half so far 😕 first baby so no idea when I should start worrying that I'm still losing weight..

Blocklynn · 04/11/2022 08:49

I’ve put on about 10lb so far I think 🙈
for the first trimester all I wanted was carbs and I let myself eat whatever I wanted, regretting it a bit now but oh well.
Now I’m just trying to eat well and not obsess over calories.

I'm a fellow first trimester gainer. Put on about 7lbs because I just let myself eat anything that didn't make me feel ill- which was usually beige 😅
I've been good since and hoping that the early gain will be the worst of the total gain! 🤞

I'm terrible for PMS water retention though, so find the hormones have me battling that even now.

Are you in uk? Because I’m 42 and haven’t been told that. I’m also consultant led (high risk), I’m having extra scans bc of that but that’s all.

Yes I'm London based, I think each trust has it's own way of doing things but my understanding is that after 40 they try to avoid you going over 40 weeks as long as the baby is big enough.

I've put on about 8lbs too in total so far too! I initially lost about 3lbs in the first trimester as my appetite was reduced and I was living on snacks and small portions, but have made up for it since then and gained 11lbs since my 12 week scan... I did go on a work trip to the USA recently and ate a lot of heavy food so I'm sure that didn't help! Hoping that this rate of increase doesn't continue!

CristinaNov182 · 04/11/2022 09:14

@Perexi they told me about a sweep at 39 weeks, and not wanting me to pass 40 weeks too, but not the 2x week checks after 37.
im not sure about the sweep, been reading mixed opinions, one woman was at 2cm and the sweep was so painful, her cervix closed after.

It might be different at your hospital, I was surprised it was so frequent! I think being induced isn't ideal too, need to do some research luckily there's plenty of time for that 🤞🏻🤞🏻

After some advice .. I’ve had the most intense headache for over 24hrs I’ve taken paracetamol twice not wanting to over do it. I can’t tell if I’m over worrying as last time I saw my midwife she asked me about headaches and vision ??

100% Agree.
I had preeclampsia, diagnosed at 24 weeks ( delivered at 27weeks) I had a mild geadache , no 'black dot' vision , swollen feet, hands, protein in pee was very high as was my BP.
Always just get checked, good luck

Dreams!
Does anyone else have very clear dreams?
I always have but they become 'more real' in pregnancy for me, often some sort of nightmare- This week so far, Ive dreamt I lost my 5 yr old in a crowded area ( only for 5 mins in dream) but woke panicked last night I had a dream the police raided my property as they believed my mother was hiding drugs ( Most laughable thing as my mother doesnt drink or smokw ans wouldnt have a clue about drugs!) But in my dream, they dug up my pet rabbit that recently died, again I woke upset. ( sounds silly I know!)

AK93 · 04/11/2022 12:39

Funny you ask I was thinking I feel like something was lower down, I think it may well be baby. It's where I've felt a prodding feeling but had no idea if it was baby movement or not. I had my 20 week scan today (I'm 20+5 so closer to 21 weeks) and although she said my placenta is low and partially covering cervix (another scan at 34 weeks to check if it's moved) it's posterior so makes me think the 'balloon' in my case has possibly been body parts? Nothing of concern from the sonograpger and she said all good with baby so I'd think and hope its normal and you're all ok too. Obviously if you're concerned speak to someone. I believe they can see cysts if that was the case so think they'd say if so x

AK93 · 04/11/2022 12:42

My response was for @hol92 i think xx

hol92 · 04/11/2022 12:49

@AK93 thank you for your reply :) I did have a scan at 16 weeks and they didn’t say anything other than I have an anterior placenta I have my 20 weeks scan Monday so will see what they say! I more and more think it’s baby low down as I feel so much pressure in my bladder it’s mad but I thought that came later, I don’t know, I genuinely feel like I know nothing 😂😂 I’m glad yours was all okay :) I thought I felt my first prodding feeling this morning when laying on my side and it was very low am hoping that was the first of baby movement 😃 xx

AK93 · 04/11/2022 13:16

That's exactly how I've felt this week! I go to the toilet then go again a few minutes later, which I'm putting down to the pressure on bladder as I've just felt a bit heavier there lol. Fingers crossed anyway and I was uncertain by prodding feeling as it seems most people talk of flutters or knowing of actual kicks and I wouldn't describe it as a flutter more of being poked with a finger a few times in one place whether it's baby or not 😆 I did feel it on my left side previously then the right recently and its all been fairly low or just above pubic area, all below belly button so hoping it is little man! xx

The other night I dreamt the tip of my finger was off (no blood but could see flesh) and bits of my front tooth filling had come out (this one I've had prior to pregnancy I guess I've always worried about it) I put it down to subconscious anxiety as I found out I'll be changing rooms at work and not 100% sure how I feel about it, it'll only be for a few months though then I'll be on mat leave! But yes very strange and looked realistic! Woke up very tired after that! xx
