To all the lovely ladies on their last pregnancy - thanks for replying, I hope it’s going to be less of a shock and I’ll cherish it more. I had a traumatic labour and didn’t bond with the baby for some time. Hope for a better labour too.

Just had my scan today and it all looks good, and it’s indeed a girl, as the nipt told us. The midwife thought she saw a contraction but wasn’t sure, she did an internal scan as well and my cervix is closed and measuring very good. We got the all clear.

My placenta is anterior, which is a a surprise, as I feel the baby very well and a lot, never mind since 16 weeks. She was moving a lot during the scan too, very energetic. I hope it doesn’t mean I’ll feel her less during the last trimester.

I won’t be getting the covid jab either. I had covid twice, first time a rough first day, mostly in bed, then 4 days more like a heavy cold and very weak, heart racing when going up the steps, then fine. I was severely deficient in vit d ( 23 something while normal is >50) and it probably contributed. I tested privately and went to the gp with the results. I was given a prescription from gp who got my levels to normal, perfect I’d say, close to 100. And when I got covid the second time, 3 months later, I only got a stuffy nose. Both time I lost smell and taste, second time almost totally. Otherwise 2nd time I wouldn’t have tested or known I had it. I also conceived while having it, 3-4 days in!

Time to relax until the the 3rd trimester when I’ll start worrying about labour:)

@CristinaNov182 what's your due date lovely? I seem to have managed to miss you off the list 🙈

18th of March.

TeddyBeans · 02/11/2022 20:21

@CristinaNov182 gotcha ❤️ meant to say that I've been feeling lots of movements with an anterior placenta too. Still convinced I first started feeling her about 11-12 weeks but know it probably wasn't her. It's a nice feeling and I was really worried about not feeling her as much as DS. Feeling his movements was my favourite part of his pregnancy

Hi ladies anyone Familiar with Sjorgrens Syndrome?? Long story short I had a large lump in my neck had a scan told me I had Sjorgens syndrome a gp phoned the day after telling me to look it up and not to worry unless I get symptoms. With booking appt it was queried & questioned nothing was done about it, I was admitted at 17 weeks with kidney stones again questioned nothing was done. 2 weeks ago the consultant told me she wanted to test my blood for SSA & SSB antibodies fast forward to today & she tells me I'm positive for these and it can cause serious heart problems for my baby.
Very emotional day & worrying I had my 20 week scan at 19+2 days I'm now almost 23 weeks so had started to relax to be told this is such a shock. I've to be seen 1st thing tomorrow morning for an urgent scan of his heart and for her to have the heart monitor to check his heart beat. It can cause congenital heart block 😭😭. I've also been urgently referred to a rheumatologist, after looking things up I should of been having regular heart scans from 18 weeks and put on medication to stop this from happening. I am so worried for my baby 😔

TeddyBeans · 02/11/2022 20:44

@Eastybaby19 oh love, I'm sorry I've not heard of it but I can understand why you'd be concerned by what you've been told! Hopefully as your 20 week scan didn't flag anything up it means baby's all good for now and the resulting scans from your referral keeps confirming everything is okay. Sending love your way ❤️

@TeddyBeans thank you. Been a long emotional day hopefully get some positive answers tomorrow 🤞🙏x

LittleAcorn20 · 02/11/2022 22:11

@TeddyBeans I'm still with you on the feeling movement at 11/12 weeks! I'm standing by it.
And found out my placenta is anterior too 🤷‍♀️
When sonographer told me at my 20wk scan I told him how shocked I was based on how much I feel movement, but he said he thinks that it's a bit of an old wives tale. Midwife also agreed with him the other day and said it's not a hard and fast rule that anterior placenta will always mean you feel less movement.

Interestingly as well, she was using Doppler and started by probing both sides of my belly rather than the top. Couldn't pick up heartrate. Then, when she put it on top of my belly she could first time, loud and clear.
She was shocked at that and said usually women with anterior placenta they have to use Doppler to the side to pick anything up, but not the case over here. Very weird, she was baffled.

@Eastybaby19 aww bless you that sounds horrible to have only found that out now, but at least you do know now and they've got you referred for checks/monitoring very quickly so that is a positive. You and baby will be well looked after.

After some advice .. I’ve had the most intense headache for over 24hrs I’ve taken paracetamol twice not wanting to over do it. I can’t tell if I’m over worrying as last time I saw my midwife she asked me about headaches and vision ??

TeddyBeans · 03/11/2022 06:48

@firstlittleone headaches that don't get better with paracetamol and funny vision are signs of preeclampsia. Please do call your midwife today!

Room4onemore · 03/11/2022 08:29

Yes I’m my last pregnancy I got kept in overnight due to a headache and blurred vision, give your midwife or triage a ring

Did you get a 500 dose at a time or 1000? My headaches don’t go away with 500, it’s always been this way, even before pregnancy. The midwife told me it’s safe to take 1000 and not to worry and suffer unnecessarily, as I’ve been doing it until recently. Obviously also follow the max dose for 24h. One dose of 1000 for me it’s enough though and don’t need anymore.

hol92 · 03/11/2022 10:49

This is going to sound really silly and it’s hard to explain but when you lay down is it hard and swollen above your pubic bone it almost feels like I have a balloon there and it’s quite uncomfortable, I know it probably sounds so silly but it’s my first pregnancy and I just don’t know what’s normal, at first I thought it was my uterus but it wouldn’t be that low down would it? I read at 20 weeks it’s near your belly button where as this is very low down, sorry if that’s very poorly explained! X

hol92 · 03/11/2022 10:57

Have just been having a look online and don’t know if I’m being stupid and it might be my uterus, it’s more swollen to the right but like I said the fact that it’s pretty low down has thrown me off as I read that it should be near my belly button, oh god I feel like I have no idea what I’m talking about haha ! X

Splashh · 03/11/2022 11:09

@Eastybaby19 i have anti-Ro positive antibodies sounds like the same/similar thing, diagnosed by a rheumatologist using blood tests. Will message you privately…

firstlittleone · 03/11/2022 11:24

@TeddyBeans @Room4onemore ive dropped my midwife a text just awaiting a response. It seems to have settled but not fully gone!
@CristinaNov182 i usually take 2x paracetamol at a time anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️

Question for First time mums, and potentially those that are refreshing their knowledge of taking care of babies and everything birth related :

what have you done or are planning to do to prepare/learn?

So far I have:

  • read 1 hypnobirthing book
  • listened to the Is it normal? Podcast weekly
  • done a course on importance of breath in labour
  • read my pregnancy week by week and pregnancy day by day book
  • read 1 book about taking care of babies aged 0-1 years
  • Booked The Baby Academy virtual courses for me and my husband
I think I’m only missing the baby first aid course. Once I’ve got that booked, I plan to get apps, and look for Facebook groups for local new mum meet-ups, etc.

You have done so much more than me!

I listen to is it normal and have been reading how to grow a baby..... I think we will do some sort of NCT type course (we're moving in Feb so want to try and do it in new area for friends)

Some friends have suggested the peanut app nearer the time.

I'm trying to be quite relaxed about it and keep saying well if everything is ok at the next appointment, next scan then we'll do such and such.....

Pickles23 · 03/11/2022 13:33

I have...

  • listened to a few podcast episodes (Is it Normal, Bun in the Oven)
  • half read a couple of books (will read them properly closer to the birth)
  • booked antenatal classes
  • booked an appointment at John Lewis to see some car seats and pushchairs in person

I'm also very keen to do a first aid course and a hypnobirthing course (I've heard amazing things, might save money by doing it online e.g. via the Positive Birth Company)

And mainly I've just been asking lots of different friends with babies/toddlers for their advice!

havanamama · 03/11/2022 13:40

Oh yes! I need to book John Lewis appointment too before Black Friday weekend, so I know what to look out for !

Perexi · 03/11/2022 14:01

I'm guessing it's best to book at John Lewis and not just turn up? My mum is very kindly buying our pram and is very excited about a John Lewis trip to test them out with us 🤣

CristinaNov182 · 03/11/2022 14:17

For the first pregnancy, I read what to expect when you’re expecting and what to expect for baby (a few months in advance before baby was born, then one month in advance at a time after ). I kept that up until she was about 2, found lots of useful info there.

I’ve also found baby week by week very good, not overwhelming on information, just what you need. I found it very useful to know for ex about in what week babies start to smile as I had no idea and was getting worried, how much they should sleep at what age, etc

also read no cry sleep solution, very good on sleep patterns and how to establish them, ways to sooth etc

it”s good to read these books now bc you won’t have any time or energy when the baby is born, not for the first 2-3 months anyway.

I’ve also read some books on hipnobirthing and labour etc but not the ones recommended in this thread, so plan to read them later.

I haven’t read anything his time, I will read and reread in the last 2 months I think

i got a book on first aid but it’s better to do a course, maybe I’ll do that now too

I did the free nhs classes at the hospital and some paid antenatal ones. I’d recommend the nhs, much more informative. I won’t be doing it this time, I don’t want to take a first time’s mum’s place, plus I think I remember everything.

what I need to do here is to get the contact of any breastfeeding clinic from the hospital or midwife, in case I have problems with latching to ask for help. I need to do that in advance as again I won’t have the energy after,

I will also install an app to count kicks, nearer the time of birth, like 2 months before I think, need to ask the midwife when it’s best.

if you’re not bothered about not getting everything brand new for the baby, you can start looking now at places like FB marketplace. We left it too late, couldn’t find a pram we liked, for ex, and had to buy a new expensive one. But it’s not really worth it. We’ve been buying (and selling) lots of things after.

Babynum2 · 03/11/2022 14:29

I cant read I have adhd and I just get very easily distracted after 5 minutes but I have been watching 1 born every minute (well listening with the phone on the side while im working).

we have started project baby we only have a 2 bed house this is baby 3 and we wont be moving yet so storage is low. Ive just cleaned out the airing cupboard and drilled a clothes rail in and put some baskets in. Went to morrisons this morning and got my first 2 packs of nappies (89p barg). Going to get some more baskets this weekend and start getting some wash stuff/essentials! Very exciting.

Katlouise24 · 03/11/2022 14:38

Hi everyone, this is my first baby so don't have a clue...how many vests roughly do you think i should buy? A friend said one packet in each size but to me that doesn't seem like enough? Especially if there's need for changing multiple times a day haha! Id like a couple extra than needed :)

Pickles23 · 03/11/2022 14:39

@Perexi you could just turn up but appointments are free, either 45 or 90 mins long, there's no pressure to buy and I guess you'll get undivided attention and (hopefully) expert advice. They also give a small discount after the appointments if you do end up spending lots with them. We thought we might as well, nothing to lose!
