@TeddyBeans @CristinaNov182 DH didn't want to know so she couldn't say it out loud she said imagine legs are up and changing nappy legs are to the left but I still can't suss it out and couldn't make it out on screen either

TeddyBeans · 31/10/2022 16:41

@Mrs2022 that's...really unhelpful 🤣 I kind of want to say a boy but I wouldn't want to bet on it

CristinaNov182 · 31/10/2022 17:02

Ok I get it now. Unless you get some scan specialist to look at the pic, it might just have to be a surprise.

But if you have any more scans, you can ask the dr to write it down for you on a separate paper?

Dreamingof3 · 31/10/2022 17:21

@Mrs2022 I'd hazard a guess at a boy but I wouldn't take my word for it 🤣🤣

Room4onemore · 31/10/2022 18:40

Had my 20 week scan today, everything good with baby, very active even if I can’t feel much of it lol. Having a girl

muminlndn · 31/10/2022 19:00

Also had my scan today with mixed outcome. Organs etc all good but baby's limbs were measuring small so have been referred for a growth scan with consultant next week. I have no risk factors for anything, and had no complications last time, so it was a bit of a surprise.
Keeping my fingers crossed it will resolve itself, or be nothing worse than a slight restricted growth issue (rather than congenital or a v bad growth issue).
Head & abdomen measured spot on so need to wait to find out what it means!

hol92 · 31/10/2022 19:01

Congrats on all the 20 weeks scans! :) @firstlittleone im feeling just like you! I haven’t felt anything at all, I also have an anterior placenta and am 19 weeks, so many people have said not to worry but Just can’t get my head around how I can’t feel him especially seeing how active they are at scans! I have my 20 week scan Monday and am wishing the days away so much! When is yours? Xx

Choc2022 · 31/10/2022 19:26

Deffo have scanxiety for Saturday.

Out of interest how long are the scan appointments? (So can plan the time)

Rose429 · 31/10/2022 19:43

Hello, first time mum here! My due date is 21/3.

I just had my scan today at 19w6. It lasted for about 15 mins, but I had to take a walk and did a rescan as my baby isn’t at the right position for the sonographer to see its kidneys.

Everything is healthy and we found out it’s a girl. I have been hoping for a boy throughout the whole pregnancy and was attached to the idea of it, so to know it’s a girl make me feel conflicted. I feel disappointed and then guilty for being disappointed 😢. I know these 20W scans are rarely wrong as well…

Franklin321 · 31/10/2022 19:47

@Choc2022 I was in my scan for 45 mins and they still couldn’t see everything and going for a rescan this week! It was a trainee though so might be why it took so long!

TeddyBeans · 31/10/2022 20:05

@Choc2022 my first 20 week scan was about 40 minutes, there's a lot to check and they keep going back over things if the opportunity to get a better image arises.

My second one was only about 15/20 minutes with a 10 minute gap in the middle where I had to plod about because DD was in a bad position still. But they only needed to see her face that time as everything else had been checked off

@Rose429 welcome aboard! Congratulations on your little girl! It's completely normal to feel disappointed, you're mourning the idea of a child you'll never get to meet. Be kind to yourself and you'll soon find your love for your DD grows strong ❤️

@muminlndn good luck for your next scan, hopefully bubs was just in an awkward spot and your next set of measurements are more reassuring

@Room4onemore congratulations! I've updated your heart on my list 💓💓

Aww don’t feel guilty…I’m sure if they don’t pass before those feelings will go out the window once she is here. I have a little girl and she is awesome, you’re gunna love it :) x congratulations

havanamama · 31/10/2022 20:38

I’m in week 22, and now feeling little one bubbling away daily even with the anterior placenta. Warms my heart 🥰

muminlndn · 31/10/2022 20:42

Hope the mixed scan news doesn't add to anyone's scanxiety. It is good to be warned though that they can be long (I don't think 45 mins is unusual) and possibly feel a bit anticlimactic. There is so much to look at and the sonographer is understandably focused on baby. They do their best to narrate & say everything's looking good but there are a lot of silent moments when they're trying to get a good image and taking multiple measurements.
We were in there an hour - baby was moving around so much making their job v difficult. Grateful that they took the time to do everything carefully even if they ended up running v late after me!

Babynum2 · 31/10/2022 21:08

Decided to take kids trick or treating and walked for aygees for the first time in a while and wow i feel heavy! 22 weeks and everyone keeps telling me i look 7 months pregnant and im really feeling it my bump is huge!!!

firstlittleone · 31/10/2022 21:38

@hol92 my 20 week scan is on Monday too, counting down the days! Probably doesn’t help as a FTM with the movements I might feel which people describe as like bubbles i have no idea if it’s my imagination or not 😂

Perexi · 31/10/2022 21:51

Ah lovely hearing about all the scans today, hope all those with rescans get the images they need!

I have a telephone consultant appointment this week which is apparently just due to my age and then 20 week scan is next Thursday eeeek, very excited to find out what it is feels like all our family's are hoping for a girl so it's definitely going to be a boy 😂 it's our first so we're happy as long as it's growing ok 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Splashh · 01/11/2022 01:39

@firstlittleone @hol92 I'm 21 weeks, also ftm with an anterior placenta; I started to feel kicks very randomly around 20 weeks, still don't really have a pattern but feel it most days - hope this gives you hope and it'll be soon for you too!

LittleAcorn20 · 01/11/2022 06:36

@Rose429 I always said I only ever wanted boys. Had a little girl and she is the best thing that ever happened in my life. Can't imagine my world without a daughter. Best friend for life!

She loves a mix of girly and boyish toys/activities and I have always dressed her in lots of neutral clothes, still do age 2.5 because I really dislike the stereotypes of kids toys and clothes.

This time round now I am hoping for a boy (surprise til birth), but keep having vivid dreams it's a girl and wake up really disappointed.
It's a valid feeling you're having, don't feel bad.

All I do know is when they put baby in my arms and I meet them I'll have no care in the world as to whether they're a boy or a girl after all!

For so many it's this thing of "having one of each" when you're on to your second and that's one reason I'd like a boy... To experience it. But a friend said to me, every single child will have their own amazing unique personality and she is right. If it's another girl, she's likely to be very different to her sister (me and my sis are nothing alike) and so much fun to add another little personality to the family and get to know them! So exciting 😁

LittleAcorn20 · 01/11/2022 06:42

@muminlndn hope the next scan goes ok for you. DD had short arms (one arm bone disproportionately smaller than the other) and was short in general (spotted at 11mths though rather in womb) and they haven't ever found a cause - despite so many investigations under so many hospital departments. She's actually now evened out again as she has grown up so as you say, it could just be a little growth lag your baby is having rather than anything more major to worry about. That's what our consultant now thinks. He's decided they were looking for nothing.
Keeping things crossed for you.

CristinaNov182 · 01/11/2022 09:03

Congrats everyone on your scans!

@muminlndn I had a IUGR but I don’t remember how her limbs measurements compared to the rest. She was born small at 2nd percentile but all good, and she put on weight and grew in height after, quickly going to the 25th percentile, and now she’s between 25th and 50th. I’m small as well though my DH is tall so didn’t expect her to be very big.

they should give you extra scans to keep an eye on the growth and might discuss an early induction or cs if needed. But no need to worry, as they picked it up you’ll have good care.

btw are you taking baby aspirin? I was at risk for this for the 1st pregnancy and took it, and I’m taking it again now. Ask them at the next scan or ask the midwife, it helps with the functioning of the placenta (if that’s the reason for the restricted growth).

By any chance, was your Papp-A low (under 0.5 mmol) at the combined scan? That gives risk of IUGR and the treatment is baby aspirin 150mg daily from 12 weeks.

Rose429 · 01/11/2022 09:10

@TeddyBeans @MarigoldMoonStone @LittleAcorn20 Thank you all for your kind words ❤️

I think my wish for a boy comes from my Asian background where boys are preferred. I am the first born daughter as well so always want to know what it’s like to have a big brother to take care of little siblings. I also have a weird relationship with my mum, so just thought I would be more confident raising a boy.

So yeah not really because of gender stereotypes, but rather a mix of cultural background and personal experience. My hubby seems much more relaxed now knowing it’s a girl though 😄 and has been trying to tell me all the positivities of raising a girl. Hopefully I will bond with my “new” baby girl soon ❤️

Rose429 · 01/11/2022 09:17

For the mums with anterior placenta, you will feel the movements soon! I started feeling them around 18W and now 20W they’re definitely stronger and more noticeable. It normally happens when you eat or lie on your left side, mine even kicked and did a full roll while the sonographer was doing the scan like “Oi, leave me alone” 😆

Mrs2022 · 01/11/2022 10:26

@TeddyBeans @CristinaNov182 @Dreamingof3 I'm going towards boy too. Very hard to tell. She told me yesterday o have low lying placenta and she doesn't think it will move because it comes around the back too . Have been googling all night and driving myself mad!
