Can definitely have it any time from 16 weeks here. My drs asked me if I wanted it the other day whilst I was there and I’m 17 weeks

TeddyBeans · 24/10/2022 21:35

My hospital booked an appointment for me to have my flu and whooping cough vaccines about half hour before my 20 week scan. Suited me cuz I didn't have to chase anything up 😂

Tiny has been kicking up a storm today! She's gone about 3 rounds on my tummy since I got in the bath about an hour ago. Loving every second of it 🥰🥰🥰

@TeddyBeans so cute! I can't wait to start feeling kicks 😍

TeddyBeans · 24/10/2022 21:51

@ChristmasJumpers hopefully it won't be long for you 🤞it's the one thing I've been looking forward to since finding out I was pregnant - feeling DS move was the absolute highlight of my first pregnancy and I was really worried I wouldn't feel DD with this anterior placenta but she's obviously found a good spot to pummel 😂

I’ve felt my baby move today as well stronger than before, it is lovely 🥰

I have had a bit of a difficult time with some unsolicited advice / comments from people in my life - along the lines of “why would you want that “, and “you don’t want to do/buy X,Y,Z don’t you?!” 😩
Has anyone else dealt with this before? I’m a FTM, so feel like I’m navigating a totally new territory

I’ve had a LOT of unsolicited advice, mostly from my MiL.
The first time around it used to bug me, but it got to the stage where I just replied to everything with “thanks for your input but we aren’t going to buy one of those/ do that/ etc”. She was a bit put out because she thinks everyone should do what SiL did with her kids, but at the end of the day, it’s your baby and it’s up to you what you do and buy etc for them.

Allybob88 · 25/10/2022 08:49

My midwife told me that you can have your whooping cough and flu jab anytime from 16 weeks, however in order to give between 16 and 20 weeks the administrator needs to have done an additional course, if they haven't done the course they can't give until 20 weeks so she told me to check who I was booking in with. Just thought this might clear up why you are all being told different times to book 🙂

If you can, ignore. If not, agree with whatever they say and then do what you want anyway. It's very satisfying to see their confused face when they twig you've completely gone against their ridiculous comments. Bonus points if you can throw in some absolutely outrageous suggestions and get them to agree with you 😁

Thanks @Allybob88, that is really interesting. I was wondering about the discrepancy in whooping cough advice and good to know it is just an administration quirk

TeddyBeans · 24/10/2022 19:34

@Babynum2 enjoy your holiday!!

@PeonyPops how big is she measuring?

@Perexi not a pain I can say I've experienced tbh

Her tummy is above average, on the highest centile line. I remember this with my youngest too, they told me I was making her fat at a growth scan. 😩

TeddyBeans · 25/10/2022 18:57

@PeonyPops my sonographer told me as long as they're within the 5th-95th then they're all good. Is she 99th for her tummy?

Hi ladies,
Who was it on here that had questions about a home birth a week or so ago?

I can't find the post, but typed a reply in my notes on my phone but completely forgot to post it here which is not at all helpful 😆

LittleAcorn20 · 26/10/2022 07:04

@alotoftutus me! 🙋🏻‍♀️
I've been reading such a good book about it. Just hoping consultant doesn't burst my bubble at my first appt with them on Monday

LittleAcorn20 · 26/10/2022 07:06

Questions wise I guess the book I'm reading has covered my main worries - mess and how it feels to be transferred late to hospital - were you transferred with any of yours?
Any other top tips or words of wisdom from your experiences?

iratepirate · 26/10/2022 07:24

@alotoftutus @LittleAcorn20 I think I’m swaying that way with my decision, too.

LittleAcorn20 · 26/10/2022 08:34

@iratepirate currently halfway through the book Why Homebirth Matters by Natalie Meddings and would really recommend. Very balanced book, weighing up options thoughtfully and with research. Reading it is making me excited about it all actually!

Dreamingof3 · 26/10/2022 09:18

@LittleAcorn20 remember that it's you, not them, that decides how/where you have your baby.

I love the idea of a homebirth but I'm far too much of a worrier to actually do it

hol92 · 26/10/2022 09:32

19 weeks and still haven’t even felt a flutter :( woke up last night really worrying about it (why is everything worse at night !) now I’m at work with anxiety and can’t think of anything else, bring on the 20 week scan! X

I feel the same! I was 19 weeks yesterday and have felt a few unusual movements in my stomach but I’m worried that I’m just that desperate to feel baby move, that when I feel gas or wind, I’m trying to convince myself it’s them! I have my 20 week scan on Tuesday and feeling very anxious x

Room4onemore · 26/10/2022 09:51

Snap, not sure if I’ve felt movement or not, this is not my first so I should be able to tell. My 20 week scan is Monday, holding on to the fact I heard the heartbeat at 17+5 and 18+4

hol92 · 26/10/2022 10:02

@LifeOfRiley1 same! Last night I thought I did but I’m nearly 100% sure it’s was wind lol and I was trying to pass it off as the baby to make myself feel better! I have been watching the channel mums weekly video thing and got so paranoid that everyone said they were feeling kicks!

@Room4onemore bless you, it’s such an anxious time isn’t it! I heard the baby’s heartbeat at 17 weeks so keep thinking about that but then my horrible anxious mind is stopping my positive thoughts!

best of luck with your 20 week scans im sure everything will be just perfect ❤️

xx

LittleAcorn20 · 26/10/2022 11:04

@Dreamingof3 absolutely, I'm definitely going to take their advice and make sure I'm well informed to push back if I want to. However, I do trust their advice to a certain extent. I am high risk for a low BMI and low birth weight of my daughter. My midwife friend has explained what the complications of these are and they can be things like increased risk of pp haemorrhage and various other serious complications that make me want all the facts and advice I can, since I'm 35 mins from the hospital.
Saying that, my BMI is only just classed as low and DD wasn't that small at 6lb 3. Soooo that gives me some reassurance.
I'm also taking aspirin this pregnancy for baby growth and will have growth scans at 32 and 36(or maybe 38 I don't remember), so they would also give me confidence to carry on my home birth plans if they come back fine 😊
I am staying well informed, and not clinging to any idea of the "ideal" birth. With my daughter it was first lockdown and I had no choice but to give birth on delivery ward with no pool when I had planned for MLU (closed for covid) and pool. But I had the most incredible birth experience regardless! before having her the idea of birth on labour ward was the worst thing in my mind but I wouldn't have known any different, it went perfectly. I'm sure I'll be fine wherever I just need to weigh up my options and am leaning to homebirth as preference right now.

LittleAcorn20 · 26/10/2022 11:19

@Dreamingof3 also if you think you like the idea you could always book a home birth and no matter how you feel on the day you have options.
You can start at home as you most probably will and then travel to hospital if and exactly when you want to, it's not a challenge. If it doesn't work on the day then you can decide and you're in control.
Really recommend the book ive suggested above, it might set your mind at ease.
I like it for the ease of childcare and because I'm 35 mins from hospital I really think the journey would mess with my positive mental state and cause me to freak out. It's 35 mins on a clear run down a notorious stretch of motorway for jams. I can already see the break lights tailing back in front of me in my head and giving birth unaided and unmedicated in the front seat of our car terrifies me! That's definitely not an option I fancy 😬

Dreamingof3 · 26/10/2022 11:21

@LittleAcorn20 I've had 2 previous c sections and my consultant isn't even keen on the idea of a vba2c 😂 I might threaten a home birth to get my own way though! We're also about 30 minutes from hospital on a good day and that worries me in the case of an emergency with a home birth so I just don't think I'd be fully relaxed
