@ChristmasJumpers I tend to wear dresses anyway and not fitted ones 😂 so all I've bought is a couple of pairs of maternity leggings to see me through

LittleAcorn20 · 22/10/2022 18:37

@ChristmasJumpers second that Seraphine are amazing. And their returns is free and very very easy! So try not to be put off by that.

Hopingforarainbow27 · 22/10/2022 21:09

Can anyone recommend a baby carrier/sling?

ChristmasJumpers · 22/10/2022 21:24

I ended up in primark, new look & h&m, all absolutely useless!!! I got one actual maternity item and just went for big baggy Jumpers. Looks like I will have to look online after all

havanamama · 22/10/2022 21:34

I’m now uncomfortable in all of my jeans, joggers and leggings, with the exception of one M&S legging pair that’s super soft and stretchy

will have to invest in some maternity ones

ChristmasJumpers · 22/10/2022 21:52

Anything that stops half way up my belly is really uncomfortable now. I don't know what I thought would happen but I really begrudge spending money on temporary clothes 😂

Ubbee · 22/10/2022 21:52

H&M have got a lot of their mama range in the sale at the moment, worth a look!
I ended up returning most of the stuff I’d ordered from seraphine though, the maternity jumpers were sooo long, and I’m not short and it’s more expensive.

Ubbee · 22/10/2022 21:55

@alotoftutus sorry, that sounds really difficult, 5 weeks is a long time! Try to look after yourself and don’t feel bad.
If it makes you feel better my husband has come down with a nasty cold after a few consecutive nights of being out and I am knackered just looking after one by myself 😅 so you are doing amazingly.

Perexi · 22/10/2022 22:44

I bought my first bit of maternity wear from vinted 🤣 can't seem to see anything in store and wasn't too sure what to expect so thought I'd start small! My normal jeans and tights are getting a bit too snug so these feel super comfy!

Hopingforarainbow27 · 22/10/2022 21:09

Can anyone recommend a baby carrier/sling?

I’ve had a few different ones and for carriers, would absolutely recommend Ergobaby Original. We’ve used it pretty much exclusively from birth (you need to get a newborn insert for it otherwise it’s suitable from about 4m I think!) Really comfy, really easy to adjust.

I’ve also had a Tula one and a Lenny Lamb but didn’t find either quite as comfy to wear.

Can’t recall the name of the sling we used most but they’re just a long piece of jersey fabric. All I can say about those is to practise a lot with it and find a way to tie it which is both easy and comfy for you. There are so many YouTube videos on ways to wear your baby. I baby-wore around the house pretty much all of the time when they were small: it’s so nice to have both hands free for cooking etc but have them still asleep on you.

Choc2022 · 23/10/2022 02:07

I bought jeans and two tops - long sleeved white and black from debehams and a few normal tops a couple of sizes bigger. Leggings are still fine for me. I dont really want to spend money on maternity clothes but i had a lot of bloat and look really big already so I think ill have to buy more. I dont want to get another coat but current ones I cant do up. Wearing my husbands big jackets for now.

botleybump · 23/10/2022 05:31

JB2021 · 22/10/2022 07:37

First time mum here, currently wearing under bump jeans. Will these be OK right through pregnancy or at some point will I "have" to go to over bump ones? Or is it just preference?

I started out with these, but now my bump is properly established I find I spend my time pulling up the front of them.
I bought some over the bump jeggings from M&S for about £15 and they're so much more comfy!

May just be because I was a slave to the high waisted jean pre-pregnancy though!

Hopingforarainbow27 · 23/10/2022 08:09

@iratepirate thank you!! I will check it out!

JB2021 · 23/10/2022 08:20

@Perexi im living Vinted, all my maternity stuff has come from there. Some has been brand new with tags!

@botleybump ahh, this is what I was doing (pulling the up!) but we were at a concert so moving abour/dancing a lot more! I've ordered an over the bump pair in the same brand just so I have that option.

I lost a lot of weight during covid and was enjoying buying clothes, looking good so I must admit I'm struggling with the weight gain.

LaForza101 · 23/10/2022 08:50

Can any of the more experienced reassure me about the amount of kicks I should be feeling at 21 weeks? Posterior placenta so I've been feeling him regularly in the early morning to midday but he seems to go so quiet in the afternoon and evening and I've heard that people often feel more in the evening.

I got a bit upset last night waiting to feel him and couldn't sleep. I finally felt him about 11pm and husband felt him with his hand again my little bump so that settled me down to sleep.

I'm fairly sure I'm just letting anxiety get the best of me and he is either developing his own sleep cycle or is finding places to hide where I can't feel him. But there is still a part of me that is worried and it feels like I'm just holding my breathe to feel him again. Does it get better over time when you feel the,m more/have a pattern to go off?

iratepirate · 23/10/2022 08:57

I’m really struggling with weight gain / clothes as well. I’ve had an ED for most of my life and it’s been hard going tbh. I have mostly made do with my regular dresses, with tights and/ or dungarees etc so far (I tend to wear quite oversized things).
I do have a pair of maternity leggings (second hand) which were great last time around as well.

alotoftutus · 23/10/2022 09:47

I've just bought a maternity coat from George - Asda for £42. I kept trying to bid on eBay but kept loosing so thought I'd just buy one. The good thing about it is it can be worn after pregnancy. It has a zip up middle panel that makes space for a bump and you remove it when you know longer need it.

Ive been wearing my normal jeans and using the hairband trick to make them bigger. However Yesterday I ordered 2 pairs of maternity leggings and will get 1 or 2 pairs of jeans and plan to just live in those till the end. Tops wise, I think I'll just get 2 or 3 plain maternity long sleeved t shirt tops and yesterday I also bought a knitted poncho type thing. I live for chunky cardigans and oversized jumpers so shouldn't need to really buy much for one top.

Wrap cardigans / tops are also a good buy - especially if you plan to breastfeed.

alotoftutus · 23/10/2022 09:50

@Hopingforarainbow27 in regards to slings - see if you have a local sling library, where you can go once you have the baby and try a load on. There are so many different types and they fit different bodies in different ways.

I have loved my Tula and ergo. The sling I loved for my 1st two was a Bjorn but my back got so weak since then I couldn't use it at all when I had my third and forth.

I wouldn't recommend spending loads on one pre baby just encase it doesn't work for you.

Honestly I can’t remember with my other three but this one I have only felt moving for about 2 weeks now. Which seems so late. I don’t feel her often during the day unless im sat down but I do at night more. I don’t think they get more regular until 30+ weeks, but I could be wrong. You just wait until the baby wedges his feet under your ribs. All the best bits are to come try not to worry:)

Blocklynn · 23/10/2022 15:35

I didn’t want to spend a lot on maternity clothes so bought a big bundle of secondhand from Facebook marketplace for £25. Will need to top up with a couple of jumpers but that’s about it.
I’ve started feeling baby move the last couple of days, first thing in the morning when I’m still in bed ❤️

ToffeeEl · 23/10/2022 16:18

I've gone down the Vinted route too, and planning on 'borrowing' my boyfriends things too. Or maybe look for things that could be worn after.

I would say if you're a leggings fan I always wear adanola brand ones and the ultimate ones so stretchy I'm pretty sure they're going to see me through. Not the cheapest but not wild either. Also 'ribbed' type leggings are nice and supportive with lots of stretch

I've just got back from holiday and seem to have suddenly become pregnant looking, some stuff that fit me last Sunday doesn't now and I've got a lot of mixed feelings about it, and then the guilt

havanamama · 23/10/2022 16:38

Re maternity wear - I’ve ordered pack of 2 over the bump maternity leggings from M&S, and have been wearing my husband’s jumpers and T shirts.
As any future baby could come at a different season (e.g summer when I can wear loose fitting dresses), I also didn’t see a point spending too much money.
lots of my stuff like jumpers and cardigans will last me at least till month 6

LittleAcorn20 · 23/10/2022 19:49

@LaForza101 you will defon

LittleAcorn20 · 23/10/2022 19:54

@LaForza101 sorry that posted before i meant it too.
You will definitely start to feel more of a pattern as time goes on. I think they say to start to try and notice a pattern from about 24 weeks and expect that by 28 weeks the pattern is quite established. But to be honest with DD I couldn't have said day to day it was the same each day.
Definitely more regular and predicatable.
When we are active, usually baby sleeps, imagine the lovely cosy rocking feeling they are getting! Babies love to be rocked to sleep in the womb as much as when they're here.
Usually kick when we are resting for a while or eating anything sugary, drinking something cold.
That's what I find anyway.
This week I am very on the go and on my feet for work and I'm not noticing much movement til I sit down in the evening.
Towards the end you can usually prod and poke your belly a bit and it gets a reaction too haha! I always found that really cute 😍 but that doesn't come for ages yet.

LaForza101 · 23/10/2022 19:59

Thanks @PeonyPops and @LittleAcorn20. I think I was definitely having an emotional one yesterday! Definitely no pattern yet as I've felt flutters and kicks every so often throughout the day compared to yesterday. I'll take your advice and just try and enjoy feeling him and not worry so much!
