@havanamama I have always had extra NHS scans and I don't know how I would cope with just 2! But this is the first time we've had private ones. We had one at 9 weeks and a 16 week gender scan. I've also had 2 12 week scans as they couldn't measure the first time 😂 my 20 week scan is just under 2 weeks away and then I don't have one until 28 weeks which feels like a huge gap!

Pickles23 · 19/10/2022 12:12

@havanamama Well I'm very lucky I'm low risk and I've managed to feel pretty calm so far. I hope your scan tomorrow goes well, as well as the following two scans (but have as many scans as you want!).

TeddyBeans · 19/10/2022 12:34

Re: extra scans, I had scans at 7 weeks, 16 weeks and 28 weeks with DS. Planning on doing the same with DD and might book another one in for after 30 weeks to get a weight estimate as this was the one thing I didn't get last time and the 12 week wait was looooong.

I worked it out that we've pretty much had a scan every month so far. Found out in June, scan in July, 12 week scan in August, gender scan in September, 20 week scan in October and 4D scan booked for the end of November 😂😂

@havanamama @ChristmasJumpers

i am high risk too, I’ll have the 20 week scan soon, then 30 and 34.

you’ll probably get more than 2, but they will tell you as you go along. I had that with my first pregnancy and expect same now. I had also at 36, 38 and 40, due to slow growth and then static growth (No growth).

if you’re anxious then do one after the point of viability, 26 weeks? There is nothing that can be done before that, will just have to trust everything is going well, the 20 week scan should provide enough reassurance.

havanamama · 19/10/2022 13:03

Oh, I have 20, 32 and 36 week NHS scans booked already, and might book one around 26 weeks to break the long wait up.

I was just wondering how others cope that aren’t high risk and only get 12 and 20 week scans for free.

Perexi · 19/10/2022 15:00

I'm getting on a bit so get two extra growth scan's at 32 and 36 week's I think it is but planning on getting a 4d scan at around 25-26 weeks as my mum very kindly want's to pay for one for us to get a sneak peek at them 🥰🥰 first grandchild perks! They are going to be so spoilt 🤣

Blocklynn · 19/10/2022 15:00

We had an early scan at 8 weeks, planning on having another at around 30 weeks to break up the wait between 20 week scan and baby arriving!

June628 · 19/10/2022 15:58

Found out today I’m having a girl. Shocked as for some reason I was sure I was having another boy (have a son already)!

havanamama · 19/10/2022 16:09

@June628 congrats 💝

PeonyPops · 19/10/2022 16:45

I have been low risk with all my pregnancies and had three scans for each. One I paid for to find out gender. I am so nervous this time for my 20 week scan on Monday. Don’t remember feeling like this with all my others. I feel baby move a lot now, but only the past week or so. Feels very low down though. Sometimes feels like it’s kicking me in the bum 🤣 or the cervix. Anyone else feel like this. Maybe it’s because I’m old and have red this time and my body’s ruined already 🤣🤣

havanamama · 19/10/2022 16:57

I have felt more consistent feelings below belly button when laying on my left side the past 3 days. I could describe them as sweeping, like brushing against my inside rather than bubbles of flutters.
it’s been comforting feeling similar things as before I felt bits and bobs but not every day and always something else, so not sure if that was baby.

I was very anxious for the 20 week scan tomorrow, but these past days of feeling movement plus my popping belly have been settling my nerves, so now I’m just buzzing for tomorrow! 😻

Room4onemore · 19/10/2022 17:39

I’ll be having growth scans from 28 weeks so I won’t need to pay for a private scan luckily

Ubbee · 19/10/2022 18:47

@havanamama i am not high risk but was sent for two extra ones last time as my bump was measuring small. I found as you get so big and feel more and more it feels so different to the early weeks of worry that I don’t think I’d miss them. Also as the baby gets bigger and you can’t see it in the same way on the ultrasound I didn’t find it as special. Won’t say no if they send me for one though ☺️

havanamama · 19/10/2022 19:12

@Ubbee good point, I didn’t even think that at one point the screen will only fit parts of the body

Who measures the bump? Is that something that happens at midwife appointments later on?

TeddyBeans · 19/10/2022 19:30

@havanamama yes the midwife will measure your bump. It's called fundal height and is hugely inaccurate apparently!

OP posts:
Franklin321 · 19/10/2022 19:36

I was measuring big with my son so ended up having 3 extra growth scans, they stopped measuring my bump then so you may not be measured if you’re having growth scans anyway. Neither are perfectly accurate but I think scans are closer!

Babynum2 · 20/10/2022 06:28

I think i may have to take my "maternity leave" sooner than i wanted to. The midwife said ill be having weekly scans now and more checks i need to just take it easy im a self employed cleaner so my job in physical. I dont want to have to stop because that means no money and putting a strain on my OH but what do you do in this situation im in? I had my stitch put in yesterday but im still in hosp my HR was high and my HG was full on probably just because all the anxiety.

havanamama · 20/10/2022 07:50

@Babynum2 health comes first but obviously have to take your savings, household income into consideration.
that’s a difficult situation, sorry you’ve had to deal with this at the half way point already!

GreenIsle · 20/10/2022 10:09

Had my 20 week scan yesterday al appeared well although they want to rescan in a week some areas only because baby girl wasn't in a good position, the sonographer was really rough and my tummy is so sore today from it right down to the muscle.

We were accidentally late for the appointment (I got the time slightly wrong) and she was a bit rude with us but I couldn't have apologised more.

havanamama · 20/10/2022 11:07

My 20 week scan was perfect 😍 and lack of movement feeling because of placenta placement

Perexi · 20/10/2022 11:16

Oh yikes you poor thing! right now a physical job is the last thing you probably need try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know) hopefully you can figure out some sort of work around so finance's aren't too tight xx

LaForza101 · 20/10/2022 11:28

20 week scan went well. The male trainee sonographer was lovely and so bashful when he couldn't take the final measurement. I'm glad for him that the next sonographer also had to try me in multiple positions and walking around before the baby played ball and moved!

Cdoc · 20/10/2022 12:49

So lovely to hear of all the 20 week scans going well 🤍

Hopingforarainbow27 · 20/10/2022 14:32

Has anyone purchased their prams yet?

Dreamingof3 · 20/10/2022 14:44

@Hopingforarainbow27 I'm waiting to see if there are any good deals in the sales before Christmas, although might wait til January!
