23/3 hoping for first baby. I had a missed silent miscarriage in February which resulted in a D&C around 11 weeks. Not to be a Debbie Downer but I am really struggling to enjoy this pregnancy as I am convinced every twinge and drop of discharge is another miscarriage. I'm 9 weeks today and struggling.

Babynum2 · 18/10/2022 08:12

Thankyou ladies, no we will just miss out on the money it is what it is! Im all gowned up waiting for my pessary and then ill stay in until thursday have a cervical scan everyday and the latest the stitch will go in is thursday. Big risks with having the stitch but also more risk without it. It is what it is but this is such miracle baby after everything getting pregnant on the coil, having my blood disorder which can cause misscarriage early on, HG and now this cervix issue if it was a girl i would be calling her destiny!

iratepirate · 18/10/2022 08:17

@redbigbananafeet I know how you feel. It’s absolutely awful, isn’t it. That’s part of the reason we’ve still not told anyone.

LaForza101 · 18/10/2022 08:30

@Babynum2 best of luck with everything this week!

@redbigbananafeet I've been there too and that anxiety is truly the hardest thing I've ever had to face. My husband also struggled and ended up with shingles as he was so anxious, which just increased our stress in the first trimester of this pregnancy.

Just to warn you that I had a big low after a successful 12 week scan. I'd built it all up and didn't feel this sense of relief I was expecting so I needed to talk to someone. But eventually I've come to find the time between anxious and intrusive thoughts is widening.

Best of luck @redbigbananafeet and I hope you have someone to talk to in real life if you need it ♥️

Splashh · 18/10/2022 08:33

@TeddyBeans baby is 350g and I'm 19+6, looking at weight charts online that weight is more like 21 weeks.

@redbigbananafeet im a ftm and had a few mc in the past too, totally understand. We are very slowly telling our close friends & fam, do whatever you are comfortable with. Personally we're happy we even made it this far and just taking it each day at a time xxxx

havanamama · 18/10/2022 08:37

Wow, I had no idea they estimate baby’s weight at the 20 week scan! How do they do it?

Pickles23 · 18/10/2022 10:59

I just had my 20 week scan (at 20 weeks exactly), all went well and baby is looking healthy.

Estimated weight was 343g (based on the body measurements taken) which is perfectly normal.

Just another 20 weeks to go!

Congrats on all the scans, so nice to hear everyone‘s positive news! 😊💙💕

Was wondering how long people are planning to take maternity leave for? I know it‘s completely individual choice, but just curious. I was keen to take a year but with the cost of living crisis I will probably have to go back to work after 6 months. No way DH and I can pay for bills/mortgage etc without both of our salaries. Childcare will be expensive too (no one to help) but still cheaper than me not earning my monthly salary.

Am I going to feel like I‘m missing out leaving my little daughter at 6 months for a full time job or do people generally enjoy going back to work at that stage? FTM so no idea what to expect!

Thanks everyone for your insightful replies re maternity leave. It made me feel a bit better about my situation because it shows we all have to make very tough choices, especially during today‘s financial climate!!! Also reminded me to never judge anyone‘s choices, we are all just trying our best to feed our families and get by - go us future Mamas! 💥💚

MattyM5 · 18/10/2022 11:02

Good luck @Babynum2 ! 🍀

Choc2022 · 18/10/2022 11:03

@Babynum2 hugs

I may lose my job before starting maternity as am on a contract. If so would be on maternity allowance so would be looking for wfh role asap. If contract renewed think mat leave is 6 months. Id probs return after that as high outgoings and current role is WFH so doable. Managing money is tough!

havanamama · 18/10/2022 11:20

I have boiled my 4th Covid jab, flu jab, whooping cough jab, hope to not get any bugs this season.

Dreamingof3 · 18/10/2022 11:36

@Splashh I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy. Picked up at 28 weeks as I was 0.1 over the threshold of the gtt! I was diet controlled the whole pregnancy, it was hard but doable and I actually ended up weighing the same after she was born as when I fell pregnant which was a bonus 😂 I've had a test this time already which I passed, but I've got a monitor to keep an eye on it at home before they test me again at 28 weeks

TeddyBeans · 18/10/2022 12:21

havanamama · 18/10/2022 08:37

Wow, I had no idea they estimate baby’s weight at the 20 week scan! How do they do it?

Think it's done by head circumference and femur length but not entirely sure

@Splashh DD measured estimated 322g on Thursday, I was 20+4. Which charts are you looking at? Your baby doesn't sound wildly out of range

Anyone have any tips for heartburn? Feel like a dragon today😂🙄x

Had a horrendous time with it in first pregnancy. Was eventually prescribed Omeprazole, which is totally safe in pregnancy, and it sorted it out completely. This time round I called the GP at the first sign of heartburn and have been taking Omeprazole for the last month or so. No more heartburn!

redbigbananafeet · 18/10/2022 12:58

Thank you all for your kindness. Exhaustion is real, I've just realized y'all are March so I've popped over to the May thread. Good luck with the rest of your journeys x

Cats23 · 18/10/2022 13:18

17 weeks today deaperate for 20 week scan to find out what we will have ( we have 2x of each already so really dont mind , not tjat we would if we had all same already!)

We have had names chosen before conception, I love our names and 2x family memebers have recently had babies and thankfully havent 'used' the names weve picked.
We like Norse inspired names and this baby will have the same

Blocklynn · 18/10/2022 13:28

Hope everything goes well @Babynum2 !

Cats23 · 18/10/2022 13:30

Goodluck @Babynum2

Blocklynn · 18/10/2022 13:35

Re time off, I’m planning on having 9 months off.
I get statutory maternity via work so 3 months at 90% then 6 months at something like £150 per week.
I work 20 hours a week so not like I’m dropping from a full time wage but will definitely make a difference to us. We have been saving so we have extra to cover when my money goes down. Not sure if I’ll go back at the same hours or reduce them a bit more. We’re lucky in that my parents are very keen to help and will have little one for a few days a week.

Can’t wait for my 20 week scan, it’s on the 2nd November, feels like it’s taking ages to come round! FTM so we haven’t really been buying loads as I’m not sure exactly what we are going to need. My sister has not long had a little boy so we are going to be borrowing their Moses basket and bed side crib.

I'm definitely getting a bump now, when I’m bloated it’s massive! 🙈

Hey,

Everything I've seen says statutory is only 6 weeks at 90%, do you have an enhancement with work? Or do I need to be looking at other places!?

Thanks

Bobduncan · 18/10/2022 13:40

Is anyone else not really showing yet? It's my first baby and I'm nearly 18 weeks. I just look mildly bloated which is a normal look for me to be honest as I have IBS 😂wondering when the bump will pop!

Dreamingof3 · 18/10/2022 13:47

@Bobduncan I don't think I really popped with my first until about 24 weeks! Just looked a bit bloated before that!

allthingssparkly · 18/10/2022 14:04

Any ladies know whether your GP can issue your MATB1 form or does it have to be your midwife?

😊

Franklin321 · 18/10/2022 15:07

@Splashh I just looked back and my son was 368g at 19+6, I didn’t have GD and they tested me three times so def not haha! He was born 8lbs 3oz, although 2 weeks early so probably would have been a chunk if I’d gone full term or over! Your scan sounds perfect, they may be bigger born but then the scans are always guess work really so could not be that big after all 🙂

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 18/10/2022 15:51

@Splashh I had this worry all through my first pregnancy. He was estimated 6lb4 at my 34 week scan and they panic retested me for gd but I didn't have it. He was born 40+1 at 10lbs. I never had GD I just make big babies. Pray for my vagina with baby no2 🤣
