I did NCT last time and it was great for meeting a good group. For birth prep I found the hypnobirthing course best, as well as reading a couple good books.

I have a few mum friends nearby who are also pregnant or have had babies and will be off for part of the time I am, so grateful I'll have a few friends dotted around while I'm on mat leave again who are in a similar position! Baby groups are also great for meeting new mums.

Plus once we are a bit further along we can do our WhatsApp group and be a support for eachother online at least and you never know, perhaps some of us are relatively near to eachother!

I’m moving House in December so I’m hoping to book some classes then to meet others. It works be lovely if some of us will be near. I’m currently in Cheshire but moving southwest. Xx

MamaMenna · 11/10/2022 20:22

@Pommy1 congrats on your girl and healthy test result, wonderful news!
@Skylark1990 I'm not on the fb group but would love to be once I've had the 12 week scan
@Cuppasoupmonster so far so good with health care here in Germany. You seen an obgyn throughout for all the routine appointments and then find your own midwife nearer the end who supports the birth and does i think around 10 home visits once baby is here if you need them. I don't know if I will need a midwife or not as I'm going to ask for elective c section, we'll see. I'm paying 240 euro for additional tests as over 35, but didn't really understand exactly what for, just that the Dr said they were really important, I know they aren't NIPT, I think she said that was free if you need it... I'll find out more at my app on Monday. I've had 2 scans so far a week apart because I bled and she said I could come back any time for another if I wanted reassurance, but because I've already had 2 it would cost 35 euro. The obgyn is pretty officious and apps are brief without much opportunity to ask a lot of questions, but I found that the same with nhs.
@Releasethehoundss what happens now in the US if NIPT reveals a high chance of Downs / Edwards / the other one, does it depend which state you are in, what about the ones with the strictest laws?

Cuppasoupmonster · 11/10/2022 20:23

Awww @Pommy1 think I’ve got something in my eye now 🥲 there’s definitely a bond only pregnant women can share, it’s a mad journey really which brings out all kinds of worries etc and it’s good to share them with other posters who get it! ❤️ here’s to your little girl 💖

appleandcheese · 11/10/2022 20:24

@Skylark1990 I have been starting to look at a hypnobirthing online course and watching positive birthing videos on YouTube. Avoiding one born every minute or friends/family traumatic birthing stories!

@Pommy1 Huge Congratulations! 💖

Cuppasoupmonster · 11/10/2022 20:26

There’s a series called Life and Birth on BBC iPlayer that (in my opinion) is a really realistic view of what happens when you give birth in an NHS hospital. It’s also totally fascinating although for the most part it does focus on higher risk births.

Pommy1 · 11/10/2022 20:26

@Cuppasoupmonster i could honestly turn it to lasses lass! I think it’s the hormones 🤣

life is just incredible, our bodies are just amazing but for the parts where we need those avenues of opinion, support or knowledge, isn’t this place just a god send!

You guys rock ✌🏼

Cuppasoupmonster · 11/10/2022 20:27

@appleandcheese is it first baby for you? ❤️

Chocolat · 11/10/2022 20:30

appleandcheese · 11/10/2022 20:32

@Cuppasoupmonster Yes, first baby. Feel absolutely clueless at the moment. 😅 It is so lovely having all the support on here though, and reading everyone else's experiences makes me feel a bit more normal !! ❤️

Skylark1990 · 11/10/2022 14:59

@MamaMenna termination is a hot topic here and there is lots of misinformation out there. I just had a friend text me not long ago to tell me that a certain state is putting pregnant people in prison for going to another state to seek a termination 🤦🤦 false... People are free to move about the country as they see fit to seek whatever reproductive treatment/management is available in that state.
The Federal court has taken away the protected status of terminations, but that only gives back the state its authority to make laws surrounding the issue itself... lots of states still have amenable abortion policies..some don't but those are the ones that have FOREVER been adversarial to a pregnant person's right to choose. I am an advocate for people to have the right to services and make decisions for their own bodies.. I always tell people I mind the uterus that minds me lol. As for TFMR termination for medical reasons I know that still has some protection and even in the most abortion conservative, states if a medical Dr. proposes it for the welfare of the pregnanct person or because the fetus, if brought to term, will have an incompatible quality of life, the state has very little say in the matter. The states with more restrictive policies will spend an insurmountable amount of money in court fending off lawsuit after lawsuit as private citizens sue and sue and sue... It's a constant shitshow but someone must fight the good fight to preserve a person's dignity and their right to adequate treatment as they see fit for themselves.

appleandcheese · 11/10/2022 20:43

@Pommy1 eeek, exciting!

I'm just joining the Facebook group too, as I didn't know there was one.

Releasethehoundss · 11/10/2022 20:46

Y'all know we sue everyone over everything 🤦
Statues
Names of street signs
Traffic cameras
Christmas trees in public places (or if the electricity being used to light said tree is coming from a public funded source such as a government building 🙄)
Christmas pagents/plays in public schools
Geez the list is so long.. 😂😂 we're a mess...

MamaMenna · 11/10/2022 20:57

@Releasethehoundss ah that's much clearer, I knew it was different in different states but wasn't sure what the most conservative states would consider a strong enough risk to life of the baby, but there's some room for doctor discretion then (followed by the opportunity for a lawsuit when it could be contested).

I just ordered some maternity leggings as I had shooting pains this afternoon from feeling compressed in my normal ones. What a relief ! 😅

Margo34 · 11/10/2022 21:01

@Skylark1990 I didn't manage to get another repeat prescription for progresterone 😔 GP would only give it for 12w and I'm over that now. I made a plan myself though (whether a good idea or not I've no idea) to slowly reduce and with the amount I've got left, I worked out I can get to 14 and a half weeks by dropping down to 1 a day so that's what I'm on now, but only since my scan last week at 12+4. Does that sound sensible? I'm hopeful that placenta would have taken over and the progresterone pessaries aren't needed as much by now but I don't actually know 🤷

My 2yo has been poorly and is teething the last molars and DH is away so I haven't been on here as I've had my hands full!

@Pommy1 wahoo a baby girl, so excited for you!

@Releasethehoundss and @MamaMenna I find it really interesting how different medical care and access is around the world! I really do feel like we take a lot for granted in the UK in that respect.

Releasethehoundss · 11/10/2022 21:20

@Margo34 this will forever debated here in the U.S. but i personally wish we had a healthcare policy for people who otherwise could not afford it. There are policies and provisions for the elderly, and the severely disabled can qualify for a type of state funded insurance, and children of course get healthcare if their parents'/guardians' income meet the requirements (low income). This, however, leaves and entire class of people vulnerable to living life without healthcare options... This isn't a matter of internet access, vehicle access, home OWNERSHIP - people argue lending criteria can be prohibitive and they don't feel they should be made to rent - etc (things a lot of people here will argue are 'necessities') without treatment and access to medicine, people will literally cease to exist.. That's the bottom line. I personally tend to turn a deaf ear to those here who argue that their "money" (tax dollars) should not be used to fund other people and i don't terribly care how mad it makes them - humans need access to healthcare... But there really are people here who will argue that nobody should have anything 'free' but healthcare is not a commodity we cannot afford to be elitist about and it's interesting how the ones here who think the issue is debatable tend to be the ones who have health insurance... 😂
Ahh... A mess...

Tubbytele · 11/10/2022 22:39

Fantastic news @Pommy1 !

@Skylark1990 I'm not on fb but WhatsApp group sounds great.

@Margo34 our timelines are so similar with our pregnancies!

We have all come down with a cold over here so just hope little one is ok in there. DH and DS seem to be over the worst but I'm going through it now. Not fun.

@Cuppasoupmonster DH and I had to also have a talk about money and it was starting to grate on me. But I know he's worried as he cares but this mortgage situation has got everyone so wired up. I hope you had a better day today and things are better with your DH.

Tropicana1 · 11/10/2022 23:02

Im on the fb group but I struggle to engage with it as much as here for some reason and it confuses me because I don't recognise peoples names 🤣

Think I'm feeling less sick (yay) but still have this constant awful bitter taste in my mouth especially after eating which I just want gone!
