And so we continue...

OP posts:
Swaliswan · 19/02/2008 14:50

Hello again ladies. Just thought that I would let you know that I went to see my GP yesterday as I still haven't started bleeding after the whole BFN after a BFP thing. He said that I have to go back next monday and then maybe go for a scan at the EPU as a scan before then wouldn't be helpful. He was very lovely and very concerned about how I might be feeling. I'm getting a bit impatient about this whole episode just ending now. I don't know what's going to be worse, when I eventually start bleeding or if I don't and have to go for a scan that shows that I'm not pg.

Having said that, we are looking forward to trying again after a few months off.

oinker · 19/02/2008 17:13

Checking in.............

Just woke up. Have been sleeping for a couple of hours. ent to be with an icky tummy.....Really thought that was it... Feeling loads better (think it may have been trapped wind) ...

Thanks for all the messages. Everyone is so kind.

ronshar · 19/02/2008 19:30

Swaliswan, did your Gp not suggest getting a blood test. You will know the same day if still pregnant. You wont need to wait a week or more then. I hope it isnt really bad news for you. Although you sound very strong, already eager to start practicing again.
Oink, thinking of you for tomorrow. Fingers crossed it will be great news.

I saw midwife today. She felt really sorry for me as I have had a crap 12 months. I did milk it a little. She is now going to try really hard for me with EPU tomorrow to get me a scan straight away. Yipee for lovely midwife.

Hope everyone is good tonight.

Swaliswan · 19/02/2008 19:53

The results for a blood test will probably take a week to get through to the GP. For results to get through to the ward where I work it normally takes a maximum of 24 hours so I don't understand why it is so much longer for them to be passed to the GP

MerlinsBeard · 19/02/2008 20:39

Hi ladies. Spent last night in hosp

I have OC

will copy and paste from my facebook note thingy. apologies, its a bit long winded!
....

Thank you for messages, comments, prayers and candles
Apologies for the crappy typing, the keyboard on patient line is teeny tiny and the spacebar didn't work properly!

So, i have Obstetric Cholestasis which basically means that my liver is producing too much Bile Acid and not breaking down other things properly. You can only get in pregnancy so as soon as baby is born, it will go.
It makes you very itchy esp on the soles of your feet and your hands. Normally the level of bile salts in your blood is 7, mine was 85(!!), haemoglobin level is low but thats because the liver isn't breaking down red blood cells as it should.

I have been prescribed Urso something or other that will hopefully stop the levels rising anymore and also Vit K because there are some issues with clotting (the liver is in charge of all that too!)

I have to have a liver scan to rule out other things but haven't had that appt thru yet. Am back in antenatal on thursday for more monitoring of baby via ctg (the things they strap on to trace heartbeat, movements and contractions) and will have more bloods taken to check levels. Will also have a growth scan to check baby is growing properly and that the fluid levels are fine around baby.
Although they are taking it one step at a time they have said its highly likely i will go in to be monitored via CTG twice a week, have bloods taken once a week, growth scans once a week and will be induced at 38 weeks (only 2 weeks away!)

EllieG · 19/02/2008 21:02

Oh poor MOM - many hugs to you. At least they picked it up and you are getting treatment. And you get to meet your LO in 2 weeks time!
Sorry you are having a worrying time though and probably feeling under the weather, take it easy if you can and let other people take the strain x

Hello everyone!

Big waves to everyone! hope you are doing ok at whatever stage you are down the journey! Sorry I've lost track of who is due next - good to see lots of new faces on here, but sad to see some who's stays are so short. For those who don't know, my Toby is 5 months today, born in Sept and 2 years of heartache and 2 mcs! But he is perfect and so worth the wait!

Just wanted to pop in and say to MOM that I had OC with both my pregnancies. Just as I thought i'd safely made it through after 2 mcs, I was diagnosed much later this time around with Toby, so was induced at 38 weeks. Wasn't so bad really! Both Toby and DD (induced at 36 weeks, due to very high levels which weren't coming down on treatment) are healthy, happy children and I've had no further problems (other than I can't take the combined oral contraceptive pill anymore, but that's dealable with!).

Try not to worry too much - you are being monitored regularly and on treatment. I had it much earlier with DD, so had weeks of worry and looked like a pin cushion afterwards after all the blood taken!, thank goodness you've only got a couple of weeks to make it through. Don't worry at all about phoning/going in sooner for reassurance CTGs - the MWs will understand. They wanted to see me 3 times per week, but always said if I was ever at all worried by reduced movements to call them immediately.

Take care and count yourself special - only a few of us get it,so we have to be special!!

take care and i'll be thinking of you and watching your progess.

love
F

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 21:41

Jules - can't believe you are 17 weeks already and getting movements they really are so reassuring

MOM - about the OC but at least the end is in sight for you and you will be cuddling your LO soon

Huge hellos to everyone else too many of you to catch up with, I'm almost 20 weeks now SPD kicked in so I'm a miserable pregnant women again, 2 weeks to the due date of the one I lost been thinking about that too.

feedmenow · 20/02/2008 08:43

Very glad to see that this thread was quite a way down the list this morning....no news is good news and all that!

MoM, that is a right pain in the ar*e about the OC. But at least you know, and actions are being taken to ensure that you and LO are healthy. THE most important thing!

Fettle, lovely to see you popping in. Toby - 5 months aleady!! How time flies when you're having fun!

Kate, glad to hear the scan was good!

Jules, fabby to be feeling movement!

Swali, thinking of you....

Oinker, any news?

makecakesnotwar · 20/02/2008 09:53

MoM sucks. But they are taking care of yu both, and you get to see your baby soon, hurrah! Sending virtual grapes for your bedside.

Hello Fettle and Toby.

Kate, glad to hear the scan was good!

Jules, spent half the night awake thanks to moving baby, and I loved it!

Swali, thinking of you....

Oinker,fingers crossed for good news

Sweetkitty- there with yu in the SPD corner...will make the next 15 weeks much longer than I'd hoped!

Morning all

oinker · 20/02/2008 11:04

Back from scan.............

I got there an hour early. I couldn't bare the wait.........

All is OK... Saw the sac and beanie...All is as should be. They have dated me as 5+4. The measurements are all fine. No hearbeat seen. Doc says it is still early. One should be seen next week.
Though I am pleased and releived...I am not getting my hopes up..I have been here too many times before. Sorry for sounding so negative..

Anyway, am booked back in for another scan next wednesday. Have been signed off work too.
They have no idea where the brown discharge is from. It is not from beanie though. Doc did say 1 in 3 women get this.

KEEP UP THE POSITIVE VIBES........ It's working.....THANKS

Swaliswan · 20/02/2008 11:29

I'm so pleased for you Oinker. I had three episodes of bleeding when I was pg with DD at about 5.5, 6.5 and 8 weeks. They eventually said that it must be cervical as they could not see it coming from anywhere else. The doctor told me to not have sex/do anything else to disturb my cervix to let the bleeding settle and save my sanity. I'm not sure if that was good advice or just my GP talking out of his backside though.

EllieG · 20/02/2008 13:00

Healthy and well oinker x
Glad scan was positive - still keeping everything crossed for you x

oinker · 20/02/2008 13:36

Swaliswan........

NO SEX for us too..........

makecakesnotwar · 20/02/2008 15:58

Yippee and hurrah fr Oinker...the no sex thing is so not hard.....

and big apologies to MOM- it's not you that sucks but your suituation...can't figure out where the missing word went. So sorry

oinker · 20/02/2008 16:12

DH disagrees..

feedmenow · 20/02/2008 16:18

So Makecakes, you think MoM sucks, eh......

makecakesnotwar · 20/02/2008 17:22

DH would, Oinker. Have to say that no sex until 14 weeks was jolly nice for me though- until I turned into a rampant sex fiend at fifteen weeks...since then DH has been fighting me off. I think the phrase 'be careful what you wish for' applies

Feedme- am mortified [shame icon] my typing clearly sucks....

oinker · 20/02/2008 17:33

Grin Grin

DonDons · 20/02/2008 18:15

yay oinker! more positive vibes coming your way (we vetoed sex for first 14 weeks too....then also became rampant sex beast after 22 weeks but now feel a) horny but b)like a whale so not inclined........ swings and roundabouts!)

sorry to hear your news MoM but emphasising the positive... only 2 weeks to go and at least diagnosed now. My best mate had this too and her little girls are both perfect.

hi everyone else!

kate2179 · 20/02/2008 18:37

Evening ladies, great to hear so much good news!

WARNING Long post coming...

So pleased about your scan oinker, the best news you could have had! One step at a time for us both huh? No sex in our house either! Haven't decided when I'll relent, 14 weeks sounds reasonable atm but we'll see! Certainly won't be before that though! DH has been great about it, though think he's starting to get a little impatient now! Poor man!

MOM so sorry to hear you're having such a tough time, thank goodness you know the end is in sight, and not so far away either - how exciting!

Things still up and down here. Am 8+6 today. Brown bleeding stopped on sunday but then had 3 red-ish wipes at lunchtime . Can't in all conscience call them brown, much as I want to. Nothing since though (yet...)(FINGERS CROSSED!!)
Am away from home with work atm as well, typing this from my hotel room... I spoke to the epu and they said to call them on fri to let them know how I'm doing and they'll prob scan me again next week if I want, though obv I can call again if it gets worse.
Don't know if you remember me saying but I've been taking cyclogest progesterone supplements since my early blood tests showed my progesterone levels had dropped. When I had the brown bleeding at the weekend I called the EPU and left a message at 9.30 sat morning. On sunday when I still headn't heard anything I paged them on the emergency number but was told there was no answer and I'd need to try again on Monday!!!!!!!!
In the absence of anyone medical to speak to I decided to start taking the cyclogest in the morning as well as the evening as I remembered Goingfor3 saying she was told to double her dosage from 200mg to 400mg when she had some bleeding.
I called my doctor on monday as I was a little nervous about self-medicating and left a message. No one called me back so I went back to my original dose and called again yesterday. Noone called me back. Finally got a call from the surgery today saying fine to double the doseage if I want to but they didn't call til after I'd left the hotel so I couldn't take any this morning.... then I had the blood at lunchtime Can you imagine how that made me feel?!?!? So I just walked out of the very important case and called a taxi to go back to the hotel to take some asap and called epu. What a nightmare... So now it's back to good old wait and see! Am really hoping the bleed was just caused by the drop in progesterone when I reduced my doseage, but who knows...
My GP also finally said today that it's ok for me to book in with the midwife. She didn't want me to before, I think as she thought I was going to mc again. I was so pleased when I found out I could book in, but it's like I only get to relax for a couple of hours before the next thing comes along.
Never did I ever imagine this journey would be so hard. COME ON BEANIE, YOU CAN DO IT!
Sorry for the rant, stuck in a hotel (Best Western so not even a posh one!) with noone to talk to (can you tell?!? )

DonDons · 20/02/2008 18:44

oh Kate - poor you - when are you due to come home? Hopefully soon. Can't offer you any advice other than copius amounts of chocolate.... healthy and well....

kate2179 · 20/02/2008 19:04

Chocolate sounds like a good plan DonDons, I discovered Green & Blacks milk chocolate with almonds last week.... Beanie liked it, I could tell! Am meant to be going home on friday then back here again next week if all is well... Case is meant to last about 5 weeks. Thought about going home tonight but it's a long drive, and even longer in the morning so I decided to stay put. Haven't told DH about the bleeding, nothing he can do to make me feel better and his sister told me how worried she and her husband were about how strained he was looking when they saw him at the weekend (when I was at home in bed...)

DonDons · 20/02/2008 19:07

oh bless - at least you have us to talk to. Working away from home sucks a$$ - I have to do it alot too G&B is the best you are right - I like the butterscotch one - but foolishly gave all chocolate up for lent (WHY???)
