@MamaMenna how are you doing today? Did you speak to your obgyn? Hope you're ok

Matildahoney · 14/09/2022 10:58

@mummatara I think guidelines state 8-10 but they aren't too bothered if it's a bit more, I do think I was also missed, as the admin staff told the midwife she'd spoken to me 3 weeks prior to actually seeing me! 🙄 She had no record of me! Bit of a shambles if I'm honest. Busy in the South for pregnancy obviously!

I’ve hardly worn make up for weeks because the HG means I don’t really leave the house… but before that I just wore my usual make up (mainly Clarins and Rimmel). I really doubt make up alone causes birth defects. Sadly there’s chemicals and toxins in virtually everything - cleaning products, traffic pollutants in the air, virtually all foods unless you grow your own veg and slaughter your own meat. Living in London means you smoke the equivalent of 150 cigarettes a year in air pollution. All we can really do is not drink/smoke, take a vitamin and eat healthily if the nausea allows!

I'm very much on the same page as you! I wear make up once every few weeks if that and if I do it's for a few hours. I've never smoked, don't drink and have a fairly healthy life style and am active (when the morning sickness allows). I've been more aware about using bleach and cleaning products etc and switched to more natural alternatives, again, not sure this is an issue but just trying to make small changes for things I use daily x

Margo34 · 14/09/2022 11:05

@Wouldloveanother @ancienthouse if I wouldn't put it on my skin then I won't use it to clean with, that's my general rule. So I'll use baby wipes instead of antibac wipes e.g.

With DC1 it was lockdown so I didn't bother wearing make-up at all as wasn't going anywhere so I guess I changed my skincare routine without even thinking. This time I will review my makeup bag for sure so thanks for the reminder!

Found this US website if anyone finds it helpful as a starting point. I haven't checked it's accuracy though fyi

@Margo34 no bleeding so far today so feeling OK apart from being in limbo. I'll call obgyn if there is any more bleeding but at the moment I just have everything crossed

Margo34 · 14/09/2022 11:37

@MamaMenna I'm keeping everything crossed for you and sending positive vibes 🤞💫

mummatara · 14/09/2022 12:10

@MamaMenna 🤞🏼🤞🏼 limbo is so hard. Sending you all the good vibes

Hi ladies,
Is anyone NOT finding out the gender? My husband is really excited not to... I've agreed to it, I just don't know how I'm going to go til the end of April NOT knowing, especially when there are now so many ways to find out earlier... I'm struggling with the idea but I k ow it means a lot to him... This is our last and we found out with our others at 13 weeks... I just don't know how to get excited without knowing... Does that make any sense?

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 12:33

@SavedByGraceAlone I use organic / natural make up and body cleansers and moisturiser ( sukin, dr hauschka, lavera, Dr organic, faith in nature are some of my my go to brands) and for hand soap we either use natural bar soap or ATM we have the bioD liquid hand soap. Again, it's more natural etc. Body shop and L'Oréal test on animals too so I decided not to get those a few years back, but I'm pretty sure they use quite synthetic ingredients. I use a salt crystal based deodorant, can't remember the brand but it's roll on and smells nice!

In terms of cleaning we try to use more eco stuff like ecover or method, but we do have bleach for the loos and flash with bleach to use occasionally. We avoid room sprays etc

As others have said I don't think this stuff matters too much so try not to worry, but generally speaking getting rid of a few chemicals from our lives is a healthy step in right direction, whether pregnant or not!

mummatara · 14/09/2022 12:36

@Releasethehoundss I don't think we will find out we didn't with our last and it was lovely having the surprise. Also made the guessing game even more fun. I was convinced the whole way through we were having a girl but we had a boy 😂 but I did say it's DH choice this time as I chose to have the surprise last time. So far he's team yellow but he may change his mind if we get that far!

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 12:37

@Margo34 so glad you got your progesterone! 🥳 What a relief

@MamaMenna glad the bleeding has stopped. I would defo ask your obgyn for some progesterone even if it's just there so you can take it if you started bleeding again. Hope it all stays away! Do you have another scan in a few days? Xx

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 12:38

@Releasethehoundss @mummatara my DH wants to wait to find out this time and have a surprise at the birth, we found out with DD because I absolutely had to know haha but I'm open to waiting for a surprise this time. Everyone says it's lovely but I'm also very impatient so not sure I'll be able to resist the temptation of finding out!!

ancienthouse · 14/09/2022 12:41

@Releasethehoundss We didn't find out last time and it was lovely. I had a fairly traumatic birth but the doctor holding up my DD so we could see was a nice moment.
It also stopped people making gender based assumptions about her before she was even born. I'm not into dressing girls in frilly dresses and pink etc. so didn't want any of that.
My DH wants to find out this time so we might, I'm not sure yet. It'll help with picking a name but that's that only benefit I can think of.

ancienthouse · 14/09/2022 12:42

@MamaMenna fingers crossed for you, I hope everything is OK.

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 12:42

I'm feeling a bit better today. Have the day off with DD and we went to soft play this morning, and had a coffee with a friend and her DD after and I think being out and about has helped the sickness. Not too much nausea so far and no spewing. I'm pretty sure it'll hit later today as usual but just glad not to be feeling as awful as yesterday! @Leanne053 I do think distraction and fresh air can help! But it might also be that some days we are just worse than others. 🤷‍♀️

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 12:44

Skylark & Ancient (idk how to tag people on here, I'm still learning lol) thank you both. It helps knowing that there will be other ladies not finding out as well. I know I can do this. I'd love to have a happy surprise in the operating room. We have all boys so everyone is taking wagers! Lol.

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 12:47

@Releasethehoundss you do an @ symbol then type the name to tag 😊
How many boys do you have?

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 12:50

@Skylark1990 it worked!!! Lol. We have 4! I'm thinking its another boy (wouldn't bother me, after what we went through to get here!) My husband desperately hopes its a girl. I'm team Jakob and he's team Viveca. Guess we'll find out the first week of April, won't we! We're not due til the end but because of complications I'm not going to be allowed to go past the first week, but as long as baby gets here safely, that's all that matters to me!

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 12:52

@Skylark1990 was it you upthread who said about having horrible sickness whenever you sat up? Or someone else? I thought it read it. I had that too. Was fine laying flat but when I sat or stood, child! The sickness was debilitating! My Dr. called it vertigo during pregnancy. Only had it with my first though so never experienced it again 🤷

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 12:59

@Wouldloveanother on the full fat coke today! Well giving it a go haha

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 13:00

Ooh 4 boys already! That's a full house 😊 how exciting! No I don't think it was me who said the thing about lying down although I do find the sickness sometimes isn't as bad if I lie down!

mummatara · 14/09/2022 13:02

@Skylark1990 even though it was more my choice to have a surprise there were so many times I almost asked 😂 but I held strong 💪🏼 and it was so nice

Margo34 · 14/09/2022 13:03

@Releasethehoundss team yellow over here 💛 I'm not into gendered stuff, clothing toys or otherwise same as @ancienthouse said. If I like the clothing or it looks seasonally appropriate it doesn't matter if it comes from the boys or girls section to me. DC1 picks outfits out now and looks a right daily clash anyway these days so it doesn't really matter 😂 It does anny me that H&M gender their baby and kids clothing even at the tills!!

Missgemini · 14/09/2022 13:03

@bluebubbles12 I’m not sure of extra early scans. I might power through now I know the sex. But never say never haha

@MamaMenna I hope the bleeding stays away. Crossing everything.

@LauraA31 All the best for tomorrow. The stress of being pregnant is a lot!

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 13:08

@Margo34 I genuinely don't care what the gender will be either way and now, because of you ladies, I'm really feeling like it isn't a big deal not to know. I don't even buy into frills and pinks and gender casting so I don't even know why not knowing was bothering me so much 🤷 I think I was just kinda caught off guard when my husband pitched the idea to me because It's something we'd never done! Thanks ladies!
P.s. given my husbands track record, pretty sure baby's a boy, but he won't hear a word against it being a girl. 😂
