@hol92 never heard of that either. Don't worry.
I've been using normal suncream all summer. No idea of the ingredients. I wouldn't even think to consider it 🤷‍♀️ how funny!

Babynum2 · 06/09/2022 14:16

My dog has been protecting me from the storms last 3 days he lays across me and dont move whilst its thunder and lightning. He usually does this with the kids but it my turn now and i think its because im pregnant. He follows me everywhere if i shut the door to shower or go wee he sits outside and cries. As much as it was cute its very annoying now!

AK93 · 06/09/2022 14:17

Had my dating scan today. She said everything looked normal and pretty much measuring what was expected. Due date around 19th March. I wish the pictures were clearer as it’s not really worth sharing (my fault for being too fat 😆) but sooo happy to know there is definitely a little baby in there with a heartbeat! I hope those who also had scans today have positive news too ❤xxx

AK93 · 06/09/2022 14:18

Oh, also I will happily join the FB group now if I could have the link please ❤

alotoftutus · 06/09/2022 14:50

Hey,

So it's not good news from me.

I spoke to the screening department and as I suspected yesterday my bloods have come back with a 1:6 chance that the baby has Down's syndrome.

I am absolutely broken.

1:6 is a very high ratio.

I have 3 options now

  1. carry on the pregnancy with no further tests (not an option for me).

  2. have further blood tests which won't give me a definitive answer but another high low ratio

  3. have the CVS / amniocentesis test which will give a definite answer but runs the risk of miscarriage.

I know already I want to start with option 2.

I don't even know how to think or feel. I just sobbed down the phone to who I think was a midwife. She initially just asked me to come in to talk to me face to face but I begged her to just tell me over the phone. The thought of waiting either another minute was crushing.
I've been given websites etc to look at but don't really know where to start.

Although it's not definite yet I just feel it that all's not ok - I've felt like that from day 1.

I need to talk to my husband tonight and get an appointment for the blood test and go from there I guess. Results take 2 weeks so I want it done as early as possible. I don't want to tell him, I don't want him to feel what I am feeling right now. I can't even explain it.

Sorry this message is all over the place.

havanamama · 06/09/2022 15:08

@alotoftutus I am so sorry you’re going through that!
I think you’re doing right by doing the bloods.
I would speak with your husband and decide if you would do the 3.step regardless of the blood test results. If yes, then best to do it ASAP so you know for sure and then can decide what to or not to do next.

what’s the miscarriage risk for the amniocentesis?

TeddyBeans · 06/09/2022 15:09

@alotoftutus I'm sorry it's not the news you were hoping for. Try to reframe it in your mind that it's only a 16% chance of having downs - that's still an 84% chance baby's absolutely fine. Sending loads of love to you 💐

Dreamingof3 · 06/09/2022 15:34

@alotoftutus I'm so sorry you're going through this stress and worry, but like @TeddyBeans said, there's still a high chance that the baby is absolutely fine. I think in your shoes I'd do the same, get the blood tests to start off with and go from there.
Sending love x

Thirdtimesacharm3 · 06/09/2022 17:03

@alotoftutus so sorry that you are going through this. I think definitely worth getting the NIPT blood test as that is much more accurate than the combined test which is based on average probabilities across the markers than the baby’s DNA which the NIPT measures. A friend of mine had a high ratio like you on the combined test and the NIPT came back 1:1000 or more. So it can (in 5:6 cases) indicate that there isn’t anything to worry about. Fingers fIrmly crossed for you xx

alotoftutus · 06/09/2022 17:24

Thanks ladies, it just feels like a lot to try and process right now.

I definitely want the blood test, however I don't know if the result came back as low risk would I believe it and want the option 3 tests anyway, in which case I should just get it sooner rather than later. I don't know. Hopefully I can get back in hospital in the next day or two max so I can talk it through with the specialists more.

I think because the NT measurement came back within the normal range i just assumed everything was ok.

Part of me wants time to research everything and think it all through and part of me wants to act immediately to get a clear answered soon as possible.

LittleAcorn20 · 06/09/2022 17:41

I'm so sorry you have that worry.
I'm glad you managed to get the results from the midwife over the phone rather than waiting longer. Well done!
Though you want to protect your husband's emotions, you're in it together and can help each other navigate this new challenge that's arisen.
I opted out of the 12 week testing full stop, entirely personal. But given what you're facing and how you're feeling I'd go with opt 2 as well ☺️ the idea of amniocentesis is worrying isn't it?We were offered it immediately in this pregnancy due to a know genetic mutation I carry and could pass on. But it's too risky for me personally to go ahead with.
Aggghhh I'm so sorry you've been met with difficult choices to make.
Take your time, discuss with hubby and hospital. It's a lot to take in and I don't think acting quickly will be helpful.

LittleAcorn20 · 06/09/2022 17:49

If the scan measurements gave 1:6 what do the bloods (opt 2) do?
Narrow it down further still?

Sorry to ask questions!

Flowerfan35 · 06/09/2022 21:32

Hi all,

Am also due with March baby, first baby for us so am quite nervous/ excited/ terrified / ecstatic....all the emotions haha! Had 12 week scan late last week and all is looking good which is obviously a relief.

I know it sounds stupid but I really didn't realise there would be quite so many appointments with midwives lol.

I've already told my boss at work, I'm fairly senior in the company so wanted to give them as much of a heads up as possible. Plus I know they are very supportive so wasnt worried about there being any issues.

Anyway, enough waffle, nice to meet you all and look forward to hearing more about your journeys.

😊

Flowerfan35 · 06/09/2022 21:35

@alotoftutus so sorry to hear this, take your time and discuss it with everyone you need to. I'm a big fan of numbers, so whilst 1 in 6 sounds really scary, try to frame it the other way, 5 in 6 chance that there is not an issue.

Wishing you the best xx

EMcG3 · 06/09/2022 21:50

I just had my 12 week scan and they told me I am 10+6 along and my 12 week scan was rebooked for in 2 weeks. I feel upset about my pregnancy being longer (I know this is nonsense) and need to get my head to a place where I am pleased I will get to see the little one again soon. But right now I am stupidly annoyed.

allthingssparkly · 06/09/2022 21:55

Caved in and booked a private gender scan for when I'm 16w5d, just a little bit excited. Hope baby cooperates 🤭🤭

Babynum2 · 06/09/2022 22:09

@alotoftutus I am so sorry you are going through this but please speak to your hubby as he will be your biggest support😘

TeddyBeans · 06/09/2022 22:21

@allthingssparkly woo! What day will that be?

Can I have the link please?x

muminlndn · 07/09/2022 07:48

@EMcG3 I had this last time, I was also v disappointed because I thought I was so close to being out of the first trimester! If 10+6 it's an extra week really, I think it's only the first trimester where you feel like every day counts. The rest of it goes a bit faster and is a lot more bearable than the initial 12 weeks of anxiety/impatience/nausea/fatigue 😊

havanamama · 07/09/2022 09:41

@muminlndn interesting you feel like that, I get like the 1st trimester flew by- something new every day, but now the 2nd trimester feel a bit stagnant - only boobs growing and a little flutter in the tummy but otherwise I feel as before haha

Dreamingof3 · 07/09/2022 10:27

Scan this morning, measured at 11+6 but very awkward baby so not 100% and couldn't do the measurements they needed so back next week for a rescan!

Due March 2023 - thread 3

I'm 12 weeks today and I'm feeling SO sick. Any tips for reducing nausea ? 😵
