@iratepirate thanks for your reply and glad that I’m not alone in not having a specific midwife! I’ve got my 16 week appointment in a week and a bit, think I will hold out until then and then just ask about what to do if I have questions/issues in between appointments.
I’m super grateful that I’m classified as a low-risk pregnancy but it does mean you get less contact and as a nervous first time mum (read hormonal wreck) it makes me feel quite lonely and lost when things go wrong e.g getting COVID and no one to tell about it!

havanamama · 05/10/2022 09:28

@MattyM5 there’s no extra midwife appointment for high risk pregnancy, just 2 extra growth scans in 3rd trimester and you get a consultant based on your medical conditions.

I was given my midwife’s phone number, as well as told to ring my chosen hospital’s 24h helpline if I had any worries.

ChristmasJumpers · 05/10/2022 09:33

I'm the same in terms of contacting my midwife. I tried to get a repeat prescription of omeprazole from my GP yesterday. GP has no record of my last prescription and said the hospital needs to email them to okay a repeat. Can I find a number for my midwife or the maternity ward? Can I hell! The main hospital number is an infuriating automated switchboard too which doesn't understand any of the departments I try to ask for 🤯

MattyM5 · 05/10/2022 09:41

@ChristmasJumpers I completely feel you!! That hospital switchboard and the wait is a nightmare. I once had to re-schedule my midwife appointment and it took me three attempts and a 50 minute wait on the line to even get through to a person! That’s what I mean when I say it feels odd to not have anyone to tell about issues

iratepirate · 05/10/2022 11:01

Do you guys have the Badger Notes app? Mine seems to have a big list of different phone numbers in it, but I think everyone’s experience of that has been quite varied.

Otherwise do you have a maternity Unit at your hospital? They might be able to direct.

I hope you get through to someone!

alotoftutus · 05/10/2022 12:00

Hiya,
Just back from my midwife appointment- was SO much better than the stupid consultant yesterday.
She couldn't really understand why I had been put at high risk and said if baby is growing well at all the extra scans she sees no reason why I couldn't continue with my plans for a home birth and will support me all the way to go down that route. She said with my low papp - a she agrees extra monitoring / growth scans are needed but she personally wouldn't put me down as a high risk pregnancy.

She also said the fact I've been referred for the GTT doesn't make sense, as my BMI isn't within the range they recommended it for, and if the consultant thinks I'm at risk for a small baby then she didn't understand why I would be recommended for a GTT which is generally for bigger babies. Obviously she said I can still take it but it will be more of a want than a need.

And finally I got to hear the heartbeat. I burst into tears lol I didn't think I would get emotional but after everything I've been through since the combined screening it was just such a relief to hear it.

We also told our children this morning they were over the moon so it's been quite an exciting day.

I feel like I can FINALLY relax now and start to celebrate this little bubba.

LaForza101 · 05/10/2022 12:11

That's so lovely to read @alotoftutus! I'm glad the appointment went well and that is a beautiful reaction from your children

Babynum2 · 05/10/2022 14:29

@havanamama every hosp is different im high risk under the complex care team because i had a blood clot on my lung in first pregnancy and both my babies were prem but i dont have extra scans and i didnt get a 16 week app. I saw consultant at 12 weeks, 20 and then 32 plus having my cervic checked in a weeks time and having a stitch put in! Very scared about that bit.

Babynum2 · 05/10/2022 14:30

My midwife gave me her mobile number and texts me with appointments ect shes lovely but my consultant is not nice at all so it makes up for that!

havanamama · 05/10/2022 14:58

Hmm probably then depends on the reason why you are high risk. My consultant only needs to check bloods and adjust meds.

SammyJay5 · 05/10/2022 17:34

Hey ladies 😊I’ve been following this thread for a while so just thought I’d say hi! Hope everyone is doing well.
I’m currently 18+5, first pregnancy and first baby, due 3rd March 2023. I have my 20 week scan next Friday and we will be finding out the sex 😊 a lot of our family and friends think it may be a girl but we think a boy!

LittleAcorn20 · 05/10/2022 17:54

Hi @SammyJay5 due date buddy with me and @LaForza101 🤩👋
I think I'm going to have a Feb baby though, think they'll be a few days early.

Ubbee · 05/10/2022 17:58

Hi @SammyJay5 🙂
I’ve also got my 20 week scan next Friday! Very excited. Had no feeling at all about sex until recently I’ve decided it must be a boy as I still feel sooo much more exhausted than I ever did with my daughter 😅

alotoftutus · 05/10/2022 18:56

Oh lord I have just had a really grim experience. So I'm on the way to a secondary school open day for my eldest. Made a bit of an effort - nice dress, make up etc. DH is driving along and all of a sudden I knew I was about to be sick. We had no bags so out the window it was. The wind blew it half all over the back windows and half back over my face - que even more sick! DH was on a road where he couldn't pull over for a good 3/ 4 minutes so I just continued to be sick out the car window!

I am currently sitting in the schools car park unable to go in as I have sick all over my clothes & in my hair - it's even in my eyebrows!!! The car stinks, I stink, and I'm not even going to be able to view the school that was probably our first choice I'm absolutely gutted.

Babynum2 · 05/10/2022 19:19

@LittleAcorn20 I was thinking the same that baby will be early because my other 2 were 4 and 6 weeks early but now im thinking this one will be on time or late i feel a lot smaller in size this time i know that probably has nothing to do with it but im hoping i do get to go full term this time. What makes you think you will be early? X

TeddyBeans · 05/10/2022 19:20

Oh @alotoftutus you poor thing! Hope you can get home and clean yourself up asap ❤️❤️

alotoftutus · 05/10/2022 19:33

@TeddyBeans thanks - definitely not my finest moment 🤣 I guess the only plus is that it didn't happen in the middle of the headmasters talk. My son would have been mortified!

SammyJay5 · 05/10/2022 19:56

@LittleAcorn20 hey! What makes you think you will be early, anything in particular?

@Ubbee I’ve just started a new wave of exhaustion this week! In the early weeks I could’ve literally slept stood up but from around 13 weeks I felt much more lively which was great, and now I’m finding myself wanting to nap again after work 😂

LittleAcorn20 · 05/10/2022 20:15

@Babynum2 @SammyJay5 absolutely nothing really other than I get a sense that it will be and it's my second, they often say second babies are early. But I know it's not a written rule, my mum has five kids starting with me (born bang on due date) and then 2nd & 3rd were late and BIG so she was induced early with 4&5 so I suppose I have no idea.
I think it's just a feeling 🤣 the same as feeling like it's going to be a boy! But I'll prob be proved wrong on both accounts!
DD was born at 40+2 so she wasn't massively overdue.

Choc2022 · 05/10/2022 21:29

@alotoftutus sounds like a movie scene!! Hope you're ok now

allthingssparkly · 05/10/2022 21:33

12 days until my 20 week scan, I'm on countdown. Who else is patiently waiting for theirs?

I'm anxious at the same time because I haven't felt any movement yet, 18w2d today.

LittleAcorn20 · 05/10/2022 21:34

Any pregnancy vitamin brands which are smaller/easier to take than pregnacare? I'm sure we discussed this on one of the original threads!

alotoftutus · 05/10/2022 21:44

@LittleAcorn20 I take an Asda's own brand one - I can't seem to add a photo here but if you pop a message in the Facebook group I'll send you a pic. I can't swallow capsules or any big tablets. These are the smallest I've ever found lol

SammyJay5 · 05/10/2022 22:33

@LittleAcorn20 that’s fair enough 😊 I’m number 2 of 4 for my mum and I believe we were all early but my brothers 2 kids were both late! Also regarding vitamins I was given some from the hospital at my 12 weeks scan and they’re really easy to take. I was taking pregnacare first off and then the seven seas ones but they were bigger than the pregnacare!

@allthingssparkly 9 days for me, I’m waiting but definitely not patiently 😂 I got to hear the heartbeat at my 16 week midwife appointment so that was reassuring and I’ve been getting flutters too but still feeling quite anxious.

allthingssparkly · 05/10/2022 23:15

Not long @SammyJay5but the wait feels like a life time doesn't it 😩 I heard baby's heartbeat at my last appointment too which was lovely. Hopefully all is well, I just can't help but worry 🥺
