I'm getting whooping cough tomorrow... Do I need to space that with flu jab or can you get them both simultaneously? Might ask there and then when I'm at the GP surgery anyway.

I'm not sure about covid booster. I'm up to date x3 jabs pre-pregnancy and I know it's meant to pass on the antibodies to baby too to give them protection even as a newborn. But I feel a bit reluctant still. Anyone seen any really good info from reputable source FOR getting one? I kind of want to convince myself to go get it but I don't want to go googling as I'm sure I'll fall down a rabbit hole.

You can get flu and whooping done at the same time I have mines booked for few weeks time together.

I'm not getting the Covid booster but I did catch Covid a few weeks ago so hopefully some immunity passes onto baby.

Choc2022 · 26/09/2022 01:40

Havent been told about Covid booster but booked flu jab. Had all three vaccines pre preg and had covid 3 times :/

On a different note, has anyone ever been to the baby shows? Are they worth attending? (First time mum so need to purchase everything).

Flowerfan35 · 26/09/2022 07:14

Theres no definitive research on pregnancy and COVID booster (no one currently has been able sign off a study on pregnant women which isnt a big surprise). I'm getting mine, I feel like it's been long enough now that its shown to be safe so better to get it and look after baby (same as flu and whooping cough vaccines).

If anyone is thinking about not getting whooping cough vaccine, I'd say please please reconsider. I had it as a child and it was horrendous! I had nearly a full year off school because of the lasting impacts of it, worse thing I've ever had in my life.

Flowerfan35 · 26/09/2022 07:15

Sorry meant to say, no definitive research that I am aware of from a reputable scientific source, but if anyone does have some I would love to read it.

LittleAcorn20 · 26/09/2022 07:17

Thanks @GreenIsle and @Flowerfan35 ☺️

Tommy's has rounded up results on the COVID-19 vaccine and pregnancy studies. There is a summary but also clickable links so you can read the research yourself and go into more depth.

Has anyone had a flu/COVID booster yet? I looked on the NHS website and I can book an autumn COVID booster being pregnant but I'm surprised that no midwife/doctor has suggested it to me. I didn't know we were on the list for the COVID booster this time around, I just happened to stumble on it looking for flu vaccine info

There is contradicting advice about its safety in pregnancy. They keep changing their minds. On the government website it states two different things. One says safe and one says not enough evidence to conclude its safety in pregnancy. So I doubt they will give it unless you ask for it x

Yeah I’m debating whooping cough I know people that got it in pregnancy and kids/babies still got whooping cough. Some kids are just prone to it. Need to look into it more tho not much research has been done into it in years x

Have you had Covid recently? I’d say that if you’ve had it and not been very unwell I’d think about it. It’s still such a New vaccine needs another 5 years to know of its long term effects. If you have had Covid and didn’t become very unwell it’s likely you have antibodies and shouldn’t become very unwell. I’ve had Covid 3 times and each time I’ve had it it’s been milder which I’m guessing is due to the antibodies and my body recognising it so fighting it off better. It’s a personal choice tho - no right or wrong...it’s unlikely the vaccine will do any harm but some people are uneasy that there is no long term data...do what sits right with you x

Room4onemore · 26/09/2022 09:23

I had the first and second covid jab when I was pregnant with my now 9 month old, only had it because I’d seen reports of miscarriage and premature babies from moms who had covid, I didn’t want to risk that and Ada is fine xx I don’t think I’ll get the boosters though now, but definitely having whooping cough

on another note I think I may have felt a kick from baby last night 🤞

havanamama · 26/09/2022 11:39

My midwife said whooping cough vaccine should be after 20 weeks
and flu jab at the end of October when the season starts
no info about Covid 4th jab yet

GreenIsle · 26/09/2022 12:25

Nhs website says whopping cough jab from 16 weeks and can be given with flu jab just for everyone's information. Aslong as you get it by 32 weeks it's fine,

For those that are choosing or not choosing to have the 4th Covid jab (seasonal booster) what is your reasoning?

I had no sideffects to the jab the first 3 times, but I know people that had fever.
I would be worried to have fever in pregnancy.

My 3rd jab was almost 11 months ago, so not sure if it’s still effective? I’ve not had Covid, so am scared to get it this winter season.

TeddyBeans · 26/09/2022 12:50

I've been given an appointment (literally today) for whooping cough and flu vaccines at the hospital before my 20 week scan. Saves any thinking on my part 😁

My third jab was age's ago too!

Nobody has mentioned anything to me about a fourth but I think I would/should have it if I'm meant too. A friend is an anesthatist and his wife had it and whenever the hospital numbers go up ICU has a lot of heavily pregnant women in and that terrifies me if im honest but also I'm not just responsible for me now it's difficult but I think I trust the doctors as they know more than me thank god!

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 26/09/2022 13:06

@havanamama I had my 3 last year but I won't be getting another. I had COVID in June and was still so unbelievably ill (very nearly hospitalised) I believe that will have given me more antibodies than another jab could.

I’m not having it as I’ve had Covid and had 0 symptoms and the vaccine doesn’t stop you getting it. I personally would have the vaccine if it stopped me getting Covid but as it doesn’t I don’t see the point. I also personally don’t want to risk putting something into my developing baby that I don’t know the full long term risks of. Pretty sure loads of pregnant women have had it and been fine and so have thier babies but as I’ve had Covid and it was so mild personally for me there’s no point risking an adverse small chance reaction from the vaccine when I don’t need to, everyone’s situation is different tho. Very personal choice x

LaForza101 · 26/09/2022 13:44

@hab Personal choice of course so no judgement on anyone not getting it. I think the fact that this one has the Omicron strain in it

LaForza101 · 26/09/2022 13:47

Oops didn't mean to hit send. I also have had all COVID jabs and has a very mild case in April but think it's still worth getting it. I know my body can handle COVID when not pregnant but there are some scary studies about how it can affect the placenta and cause developmental delays in babies. If they have had long enough to gather that info on COVID infections in utero then they have had enough time to see if there were development issues from the vaccine. There isn't so the balance of risk for me weighs in favour of the vaccine

Katlouise24 · 26/09/2022 14:36

I have my gender scan today! So excited but for some reason I had an absolutely awful dream and extremely anxious that I'm going to get bad news...hopefully everything is good and we get to find out what baby is! How is everyone? :)

havanamama · 26/09/2022 14:39

@Katlouise24 how exciting ! Mine is still 3 weeks away

thank you all for the Covid seasonal booster responses.
the vaccine is supposed to reduce the severity of your illness if you catch it. I think I’m also leaning towards getting the 4th jab, as benefits outweigh the risks in my mind. But now I’m just a bit worried about the potential increase in temperature, but that should be ok with paracetamol.

I have my midwife appointment tonight, did anyone's midwives do baby's heartbeat at 16 week appointment? Also what else went on in the appt? X

We got to listen to the heartbeat at our 16 week appointment.

Otherwise, just the pee and Co2 tests and a chance to ask questions. She asked about which jabs I was having (no pressure) and gave me a rundown of what happens at my 20 week scan.

allthingssparkly · 26/09/2022 16:45

Thanks for the heads up @botleybump 😊

TeddyBeans · 26/09/2022 17:27

@allthingssparkly you've probably had it by now but they go through all your blood results from booking and have a look at your 12 week scan/combined test results. Nothing too major really. Mine did listen in but I know some places don't for the anxiety of bit being able to locate baby as they still have a lot of space to move
