How is everyone feeling?

I seem to have picked up some viral cold/throat type infection as I'm on day 2 of feeling dreadful, don't feel very pregnant, have no bump and just feeling abit meh. Sorry to moan! 😔😔😔

I have my gender scan at the weekend and my 16 week midwife appt on Monday (will be 17 weeks then) so things to look forward to and give me some reassurance all is ok but right now I'm feeling crap👎👎

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 22/09/2022 08:48

@allthingssparkly I'll join you in the crap club! Been throwing up 3-4 times a day lately, it's just so draining and really putting me off food.

We told our parents at the weekend which was lovely, although I told work on Tuesday and they were really shitty about it. I sit on a board with 3 other directors (all male) and as soon as I told them I couldn't get a word in edgeways for them telling me horrific stories about people they know who have gone into labour at 25 weeks and spent months in hospital etc. Not even a congratulations between them.

Our maternity pay is really crap and when I said I'd be back after 3 months as I couldn't afford any longer, I was told it wasn't long enough, well if you want to pay me I'll take all the time off in the world but otherwise if I don't come back after 3 months I won't be able to pay my mortgage...

Room4onemore · 22/09/2022 09:46

I’m just still really anxious the time between my scan and starting to feel movement

hol92 · 22/09/2022 11:27

Same!! I’m 14 weeks and have booked a gender scan at 17 weeks to split the time up a bit, when did everyone start to feel movement?

also is anyone suffering with lower back pain? I had it really bad last night and it made me worry a big, but now this morning it’s still there but radiating to my right leg area so I think it might be sciatic, I have a retroverted uterus so not sure if it’s because of that, got myself into a bit of a state last night googling though! Just wondered if anyone else has this? :) x

hol92 · 22/09/2022 11:31

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark exactly the same!!! I had such morbid congratulations by directors and my work don’t get me wrong I wasn’t expecting much but also wasn’t expecting loads of horror stories and how much my life will change for the worst... lol, also have rubbish maternity pay , I don’t know about you but it’s made me feel really unmotivated at work! X

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 22/09/2022 12:16

@hol92 Glad its not just me! I've tried really hard throughout all my sickness to come into the office and work through it but now I think sod it I'll just work from home. I get its not ideal from a business point of view but I already had a plan for cover etc, but they wouldn't let me speak to tell them any of it.

Just makes you realise there's so much more to life than work! Hopefully friends and family reactions make up for it for you x

Hi hun, I'm not sure how to private message. Am I able to have the fb link please? Was on one on from my last baby here and he's been a god send xx

allthingssparkly · 22/09/2022 13:10

@Room4onemore I'm exactly the same, I haven't felt movement yet, 3rd baby and I'm 16w3d 😔😔😔

LittleAcorn20 · 22/09/2022 13:25

For anyone feeling anxious I can recommend starting to read up on hypnobirthing practises.
It might not be up everyone's street but the principles, mindfulness, positive affirmations are all helpful to apply for anxiety in pregnancy too.
I found this anyway 🤷‍♀️☺️ if you can learn to trust your body through these sort of practises then I think you can reduce some of the stress and uncertainty.
Antenatal yoga too, yoga is brilliant for the mind!

havanamama · 22/09/2022 13:52

I’m also in the anxiously awaiting 20 week scan club!

also now since the Doppler/16 week midwife discussion, I’m now anxious for that appointment next week too!

thankfully my work has been happy for me, and so far so good!

I have started to take side profile pictures as I don’t know if there’s no bump under my pouch or I just don’t notice it as I’m also bloated by the end of every day.

im finding 2nd trimester hard so far mentally

My movements have been a bit hit and miss recently but I got a lovely big kick in the bath last night 🥰 hopefully all the ladies that haven't felt anything yet will soon!

I've been getting a lot of sharp twinges across the top of my bump in the last couple of days. Yay to growing pains. The PGP is starting to really get to me too 😭 I'm only 17+4, I'm not ready for the PGP yet!

Perexi · 22/09/2022 15:39

Ah wow sounds like lots of struggles today! Hope all the pains and niggles subside soon.

I can't believe some people's work reactions! I WFH so managed to hide it so far but I'm going to have to tell my boss soon. I'm super nervous as just before I found out I was pregnant I took on and agreed to learn a whole new bit of work and I don't want them to think I'm taking the Mick! I realise this is wholly irrational. My maternity is rubbish too so trying to save what we can now so I can have 6 month's off at least no chance of a year though.

alotoftutus · 22/09/2022 15:54

Hi ladies,

So after the longest most painful few weeks of my life I finally got my results back and it looks like I have a lovely healthy baby :) the tests came back as low risk for Downs Syndrome and all other chromosome disorders.
I can't even begin to explain the relief.
I feel guilty for being so relieved and to be honest I disconnected myself so much from the pregnancy - almost grieving for it, that I don't know how to get that bond and excitement back. However apparently that's normal and will go with time. For the past few weeks waiting for the results I've felt like a truck is sitting on my chest, I can finally breathe. I got the results yesterday and was looking forward to being able to sleep last night without waking up having panic attacks - however 3 out of 4 of my kids came down with a sickness bug over night so no sleep was had 🤣 Fingers crossed for tonight - I'm exhausted!!!

Anyway hope everyone is well.
I've stayed off the thread and FB page so am really behind but looking forward to getting back on the March bus xxxx

Perexi · 22/09/2022 15:59

Amazing news! So pleased for you xx

Perexi · 22/09/2022 16:12

Not the bugs of course but the results, crazy it took so long!

Bobduncan · 22/09/2022 16:22

Good news @alotoftutus

Babynum2 · 22/09/2022 17:23

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark thats really rubbish i had similar last time i used to work for headmasters and mainly woman, when i told me male boss his response was im not employing woman anymore then walked off!

@LittleAcorn20 i would also like any recommendations for hypno birthing. I was told by the complex care team i cant have any pain relief if i have taken my blood thinner within 12 hours and im freaking out now!

havanamama · 22/09/2022 17:31

@alotoftutus awww that’s fantastic news! ❤️ I also get the guilty feeling as I was very worried about the results and also super happy when I had the 1:100000 low risk, although I have a family member with Down’s, so felt conflicting feelings.

@TeddyBeans my PGP lasted 1 week oddly around 14 weeks! I hope it doesn’t come back as it was nearly impossible to tie shoes. Oddly it went away when I pushed myself to walk more.

LaForza101 · 22/09/2022 18:07

@alotoftutus so chuffed for you!

I had another scan today. No picture as it was done in the side room of the recurrent miscarriage clinic where they don't have a printer but all looks well at 16+6.

Found out that it is a boy and we couldn't be more delighted. It's starting to sink in more now. This is happening!

My anxiety before the scan was through the roof though! I need to remind myself that my lowest thoughts are not prophecies, and just because you believe the worst at the time does not mean it is true.

Anyway, takeaway to celebrate this milestone I think

TeddyBeans · 22/09/2022 19:25

@alotoftutus I'm so pleased you got a positive result ❤️

@havanamama mines been a consistent pain for the last couple of weeks regardless of how much walking I do 😭 I've taken to carrying a chair around at work so I can sit down to save myself

Thirdtimesacharm3 · 22/09/2022 20:40

Great news @alotoftutus glad you are feeling better

LittleAcorn20 · 22/09/2022 21:17

@Babynum2 you can't have anything at all?? Aghhhh!!
I coped with paracetamol, gas and air and breathing/hypnobirthing but Im under no illusion that doesn't always work - and frankly a bit terrified that my second labour will be complicated/more painful and shock me!
So I read The Positive Birth Book and The Modern Midwives Guide to Labour. I also did a free trial session with a lady who teaches hypnobirthing local to me but I never went ahead with the full course as we couldn't afford it at the time and I felt clued up enough from the books I'd read.
I also bought the digital hypnobirthing package from The Positive Birth Company and worked through that in the last 10 weeks or so.
Much as they might protest and roll their eyes (mine did a bit!) get your birth partner to sit through the sessions with you. It's important they understand it all as much as you because there are lots of ways they can help, not least understanding what you're trying to do.

LittleAcorn20 · 22/09/2022 21:18

*The Modern Midwifes guide to Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond

That's the one 👍

Babynum2 · 22/09/2022 21:42

@LittleAcorn20 I can have gas and air but it made me very sick both times ive done it natural twice now i dont want to do it again ive experienced the pain i think its different when its your first you want to feel in control and feel all the feelings but was hoping for epidural this time but was hit with that shock when she told me!
