Not always the case, when I lost my boy at 20 weeks, he had no heartbeat but the placenta was still working. Not to scare anyone, just thought I would say x

Room4onemore · 19/09/2022 14:01

I sent my scans to the nubologists and the nub techs , they both said 85% boy so I’m booking a gender scan

Babynum2 · 19/09/2022 15:10

@havanamama this is my last i have 3 im getting my tubes tied i concieved on the coil this time! I just have terrible pregnancies and early babies cant put myself through this again.

Flowerfan35 · 19/09/2022 15:31

@LittleAcorn20 am also waiting to find out until birth, feel like a bit of a surprise will be something to look forward to at the end of labour 😂

We've been convinced we would be 1 and done, we live in London and it's just so expensive. But equally we both grew up with siblings and I'm now starting to think having an only child might be a bit sad....but we will see. I'm 36 and it took us quite a while to conceive so not sure there will be another.

LaForza101 · 19/09/2022 17:09

Sorry to hear of your loss@Room4onemore x

This is our first and possibly only. It's been a journey getting this far so not sure we will attempt it a second time. We will be delighted to just have a healthy boy or girl and then see what the future provides!

dmb91 · 19/09/2022 17:11

Our first and potentially only too!
Took a while to get here and I'm not coping with pregnancy very well so far.

havanamama · 19/09/2022 17:31

Is anyone planning to do any NCT classes or something else?

Room4onemore · 19/09/2022 17:41

Anybody else hate the time between the 12 week scan and starting feeling movement, this is the bit I hate, I get so anxious

havanamama · 19/09/2022 17:45

@Room4onemore yes!!
honestly I would take the month 2&3 nausea over this month 4 stillness 🥴

Babynum2 · 19/09/2022 17:54

@Room4onemore yes Im anxious every day i didnt get a 16 week app like others my last was 12 weeks and nothing until 20 weeks so i had to book a private gender scan at 17 weeks (next week) for that reason. I too lost a baby at 14 weeks so extra anxious this time.

Room4onemore · 19/09/2022 18:18

@Babynum2 im booking a scan tomorrow for 2 weeks time for the same reason, I’m due the 17th

LittleAcorn20 · 19/09/2022 18:19

@Room4onemore ah I am so sorry for your loss.
Now I wonder if I trust my midwife!! That's genuinely what she told me 😬

Room4onemore · 19/09/2022 18:23

@LittleAcorn20 dont worry, it’s a small percentage that some that’s wrong so it probably is right for 99% of people x

havanamama · 19/09/2022 18:51

@Babynum2 i don’t think NHS do 16 week scans , people just go private or to the midwife meeting but midwife’s don’t do ultrasounds

Babynum2 · 19/09/2022 19:51

@havanamama no i mean midwife a lot of people had 16 week apps but i didnt get one.. i think when you have had babies before they sort of leave you alone a bit.

Babynum2 · 19/09/2022 19:54

@Room4onemore im due 5th we booked window to the womb and it was £60 for the package if you have one local. I know its so hard with previous loss but im trying to stay positive, i feel a timy bit better im past the 14 week mark now as that was our previous loss. Also booked it to find out gender early as im so impatient this pregnancy has dragged.

muminlndn · 19/09/2022 20:10

My 16 week appointment is just over the phone this time, don't know if it's a second baby thing or different hospital thing. We are holding out for 20 week scan (another 6 weeks...) for gender etc.

I've also heard home doppler is not recommended because of the placenta noise. The woosh-woosh blood flow can mimic the baby's heartbeat to untrained ears and offer false reassurance. But that's mostly a worry for midwives if you're later on, are worried (due to symptoms/reduction in movement) and your false reassurance from a doppler stops you going in to get checked properly. So for fun it's fine - just don't use it in place of a hospital visit if you have other symptoms.

TeddyBeans · 19/09/2022 20:47

I'm having my second and had a 16 week appointment. It might depend on where you are but NHS do list 16 weeks as an appointment for everyone. It's only usually the later ones that get dropped for second (and beyond) timers

Babynum2 · 19/09/2022 22:05

Im on baby 3 i did have few extra appointments at the start and also got some later on to be fair as under the complex care.

Blondewave · 20/09/2022 07:15

havanamama · 19/09/2022 17:31

Is anyone planning to do any NCT classes or something else?

I did it with my first and would reccomend it. Considering doing it again even tho I’m a maternity nurse and worked on labour ward for 2 years, so I know the birth drill very well - so purely to make friends with babies same age in the area really 😂🤣 also for my partner as it’s his first baby xx

GreenIsle · 20/09/2022 08:13

This is my 3rd baby and I had a 16 week appointment but it's for midwives to just check urine, bp and put all your blood work into your folder. They use a Doppler to check heartbeat also. That's it really.

Perexi · 20/09/2022 11:10

I wasn't feeling quite right all weekend so went to the doctor's today and yep I have a UTI! Was really worried about wasting their time but as its not just me now I booked an appointment luckily I did!

Jholli · 20/09/2022 14:10

Hi what do you think re gender?

Due March 2023 - thread 3
TeddyBeans · 20/09/2022 15:29

@Jholli I'd say a girl but your name/info is on the picture in case you wanted to get mnhq to remove it for you
