@Hopingforarainbow27 in my area they do a doppler check at the 16 week appointment but I think it depends on area

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 14/09/2022 10:01

@Bobduncan I've had a full fat coke recently. As long as you're not drinking it all day every day I don't see why one can harm anything. Maybe I've just got second pregnancy syndrome and am a bit more lapse 🤣

I'm so sick of feeling and being sick. I threw up about 5 times this morning and it came from nowhere. Makes me wonder if the metoclopramide is still working... Has anyone change sickness meds later on?

Dreamingof3 · 14/09/2022 10:04

@havanamama to be honest I don't think there are many symptoms unless you have it quite severely and then you can get hypos etc. I had it before so I'm expecting it again, but I've had tests for diabetes in between and be fine. Just because you have a 'high' bmi doesn't mean you have it anyway so fingers crossed for you that you don't.
I managed mine with diet before and had no issues and actually lost weight 😂

hol92 · 14/09/2022 10:17

Is anyone started getting that brown line on there stomach ? :) x

havanamama · 14/09/2022 10:48

No lines and no pigmentation on the face so far thankfully!

Perexi · 14/09/2022 11:40

Same! Mine was very one word answers even when we asked questions! I guess they see it so often its just run of the mill for them!

Perexi · 14/09/2022 11:41

Argh that was in reply to @AGirlsNameIsAryaStark

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 14/09/2022 11:52

@Perexi DH wasn't very impressed at all with the sonographer but I did say to him they needed to concentrate and I guess their job is really just to measure the baby etc, I'm going to put a list of the questions we had together and make sure I ask them at my next midwife appointment I think!

Room4onemore · 14/09/2022 13:52

Has anybody started buying anything yet?

muminlndn · 14/09/2022 14:05

FYI I think a lot of sonographers are instructed not to tell too much during the scan, even if something is wrong, because it's not their place. They will get a second opinion to check if needed, or they will call in a midwife who would be qualified to discuss any findings from the scan and advise the next steps. I think this applies especially to the 20 week scan which is very detailed. Depends on the qualifications of the sonographer, sometimes it can be a fetal medicine doctor who may be more chatty, but just to warn you it might not be.

That's not to say if they're quiet then something is wrong, just to say their job is often to get the images, measurements and make a report, which would then be looked at by someone else - just like when you go for an MRI or something and have to wait for the images to be looked at by a doctor.

ToffeeEl · 14/09/2022 14:13

I found our sonographer really helpful in checking if we had any questions and explaining what she was measuring, why and what it was looking like to her, sorry that your experience has not been the same.

Although saying that I've not had contact really with my midwife so it seems maybe the health board here splits those responsibilities?

ToffeeEl · 14/09/2022 14:17

@Room4onemore I haven't yet, no idea when to begin at all with it being the first (also I haven't got much room until I've moved house)

I've told some close family and they've kindly bought me some small gifts and have been gathering their own things for me to pick what I want from when I'm ready and have the room

I've found trying to pick the pricier items so overwhelming with choice!

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 14/09/2022 14:22

@Room4onemore we bought a little white sleepsuit after our 12 week scan yesterday, but thats it. We're starting to tell family etc now (starting with DH's parents tonight!) so will probably start picking bits up in a couple of weeks. We did stop in John Lewis yesterday and have a quick look at prams as I couldn't resist!

Dreamingof3 · 14/09/2022 14:40

@Room4onemore we have got a snuzpod 🤭 purely because it was for sale second hand in great condition and s really good price so my mum got it for us
I have a few little sleepsuits I've picked up but waiting to find out gender before getting much else. Also pretty sure I know what pram I want so will be looking out for a good deal nearer the end of the year or January to get that

Dreamingof3 · 14/09/2022 14:42

Also, sonographers...I think they vary 😅 I've had some really abrupt ones and some lovely ones.
The lady who did my scan yesterday was fab, she really took her time and was kind enough to point out different bits and show us the baby wriggling etc and even printed us extra photos!

Bobduncan · 14/09/2022 15:02

Agreed with you there @Dreamingof3 ! I've had one absolutely lovely sonographer luckily at my 12 week scan who explained absolutely everything. The sonographer in EPAU though early in my pregnancy was dreadful. No bedside manner. I wonder if its because he was so used to delivering bad news that he had become desensitised to it.

Room4onemore · 14/09/2022 16:05

I had a really lovely sonographer on Tuesday, zoomed in I could the heart beating, then legs, feet, arms, hands, brain, stomach, kidneys etc. she was really nice

Room4onemore · 14/09/2022 16:06

@Dreamingof3 lucky my daughter is 9 months so I still have her snuzpod, I just need a new mattress and to give it a wash

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 14/09/2022 16:34

Just looking through my report from my scan yesterday and there’s this graph with absolutely no explanation, does anyone know what it means? I gather it’s plotting my babies size against its weeks but what are the 3 lines and why does it say 3rd and 97th centile?

Due March 2023 - thread 3
Franklin321 · 14/09/2022 16:59

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark a baby follows a centile throughout pregnancy (and after) so the top line is 97th centile (bigger baby) and the bottom line is 3rd (small baby) and the middle line is 50th so bang average. It’s just a way of tracking measurements to make sure baby is growing well and following their ‘centile’

Pigmentation on the face? Whaaat?!

TeddyBeans · 14/09/2022 19:17

DS saw this in the big shop today and told me very decisively "mummy I want to buy this for baby". Just love how sweet and attentive he's being 🥰🥰🥰

@Choc2022 yed sadly some get melasma ! Who knew so many side effects of pregnancy !
I hope I don’t get it

Babynum2 · 14/09/2022 20:39

@Room4onemore we have small pile of clothes from my mum in the sainsburys sale, i got a free solid changing unit off market place (couldnt turn that down) and then i still have a doona buggy, crib, steriliser left from last baby. Going to be a lot easier this time and i learnt from DD1 not to go over the top as we really dont have the room this time!

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 14/09/2022 21:11

I had the most lovely sonographer who asked if she was pressing too hard (im overweight and they have to push the fat out the way). I nearly cried, and told her she can push harder because my 12 week scan with my first baby the lady hurt me so much I felt bruised for about a week.

I've not bought anything yet. Second baby syndrome?
