That's good to know! @Arwen7 thank you! How are you doing?

35 weeks and the heartburn at night now is horrific 🙈 I try not to take heartburn meds during the day but when laying down at night I have to have some gaviscon at like 2am as feels like going to throw up!

Arwen7 · 27/09/2022 10:49

I'm good thank you @Annny27 - 32 weeks and working from home now which is so much better as I was struggling the last couple of weeks. Omg yes heartburn is so bad for me at the moment too, it seems to have appeared in the 3rd trimester along with not sleeping well, for the rest I can't complain. It stops me from eating at night so I have succumbed to having an Omeprazole a day...

Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 11:00

@speake1 thankyou ♥️ I'm just scared it will fail as my body isn't ready. I was over 40 weeks last time and it went bad this time I'm just over 39 so think it will be worse 🤦 I'm not even sure if there bothered baby isn't engaged with it being my third? I read it can happen in labour? Don't know how right that is! X
@flowergarden16 I'm shocked at how many of you got given the epidural when on the drip and It was never mentioned to me. The pain and trauma from that thing that could of been avoided! I'm also scared it will end in emergency section. Haven't met the anaesthetist yet that was meant to be Friday 🙈 x
@Annny27 thanks for the support ♥️ oh natural would be wonderful 🙌🤞 but I don't have high hopes 🙈 he very comfy in there! X
@Arwen7 I said from the start I would never do induction again but I need to think of the safety of baby I'm scared something will happen to him if I don't go ahead. They said they would like me to try induction and then I can opt for c section. They didn't give me the choice of straight c section but I guess it's because I have had all vaginal births. It was all just alot to take in when I was only expecting a growth scan. If the drip is needed I think I will be asking for help this time I can't do that again. The thought of doing this is scaring me so much 🤦 I feel like I can't get excited I'm just petrified x

Srx1 · 27/09/2022 11:04

@Skl2021 You've got this!! 💪🏻 I know it's hard but try to think positive - it could be different this time. Focus on staying relaxed as that can only help your body. Thinking of you xx

Arwen7 · 27/09/2022 11:12

@Skl2021 definitely second and subsequent babies tend not to engage until labour starts so don't worry about that.
I totally understand, I wouldn't just decline and wait for labour to start if it's safer for baby to be born but you do have the choice of having a section regardless even if you have had vaginal births before. Yes it would be odd for someone to request it after previous vaginal births and having had vaginal births before everyone expects it to be easier and of course easier recovery so maybe that's why they didn't even offer it. When they say you can try induction if not section I assume that would be emergency section after failed induction. Please do get the epidural before the drip, it will be so much better, you will hopefully be able to sleep, not be in pain and then push baby when ready and not being your first the likelihood is that it would be quick. Hopefully having that plan makes the thought of it less scary and stressful. Big hug!

flowergarden16 · 27/09/2022 11:13

@Skl2021 I ended up with an emergency section and honestly it was very calm and quick! Know it's easy for me to say but promise you it's really not too bad xxx

Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 11:32

@Srx1 thanks for the support ♥️ x

@Arwen7 they said I can try the gel pessary things and if nothing happens then I can opt for c section not an emergency one at that point before I try anything more drastic like drop etc. If I went ahead and had drip etc then it would be emergency c section of things didn't plan out. So technically I do have both options. I think I just need pain relief this time as it would make a huge difference. Just dont want it to slow labour down or result in instruments. X

@flowergarden16 the thing that scares me about that is I would probably be knocked out with emergency one as I wouldn't of had epidural? If I have got that right? I'm a bit clueless around it all. Didn't think they had time to mess with epidural in emergency x

flowergarden16 · 27/09/2022 11:35

@Skl2021 no that's super unlikely they can get the meds in you v quickly and an emergency isn't actually usually as scary and mad as it sounds. I know a few people who have had them and it's epidural done and baby out in 20 mins. All I can say (as someone who is likely to have a v stressful delivery) is trust yourself, ask for what you want focus in the end result. You can do this!! X

Arwen7 · 27/09/2022 11:44

@Skl2021 the pessary/gel is only to ripen the cervix so they can break the waters. May give you some pains but usually won't start labour as such. Very unlikely it wouldn't work on someone who has already had children. In fact you may not even need any of that as your cervix may be a bit open already as it has been previously stretched, enough to break waters (called multips os). Once they break waters they will give some time to see if contractions start on their own or if you need the drip - many times drip is needed tbh but anything can happen. If then with the drip the cervix didn't open or baby wasn't happy it may be a case of emergency section but as @flowergarden16 says most times it's not a case of rushing to theatre. But even if that was the case (let's say baby wasn't happy) most of the time it would be a category 2 section which means you would have enough time to go, scrub up, and also do an epidural/spinal if it was needed. Sometimes baby recovers quickly after not being happy and then you still wait for 1h or more to go to theatre. Category 1 sections where there is a real rush are less common. Hope that makes sense x

Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 14:25

@flowergarden16 thanks I know nothing about them and presumed I would be knocked out which scares the life out of me 🙈 thanks for the support I just want to get to the end of it now and have a healthy baby ♥️ xx

@Arwen7 my last induction I had the pessary things then my waters did eventually go but nothing happened so I was put on the drip. I think they might have said this time they could go straight to breaking waters? But I had a stretch yesterday and she said she couldn't do it fully as cervix was to far back and closed so can u break waters when it's like that? Thanks for the info I honestly thought it was like emergency no time situation 🙈 and that panicked me so much as don't want to be put to sleep! I just hope my body takes over and I don't need the drip but obviously I have to be prepared for the worst x

Arwen7 · 27/09/2022 15:00

@Skl2021 No, you can only break the waters if the cervix is at least 1cm open. If the starting point is completely closed then you need gel/pessary to ripen it and open it just enough but by Thursday your cervix may have changed after the sweep, you will have to wait and see then. You can't start the drip unless the waters are gone. I think you can think it as even if you need the drip it will be absolutely fine as you would have an epidural before hand. You can in fact have an epidural before breaking the waters if you don't want to feel anything or what most people do which is right before starting the drip so you are nice and comfortable after that. You got this ❤️

Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 15:05

@Arwen7 I really hope it has changed 🤞 I have never had an epidural before is it as bad as it sounds? Sorry for all the questions I just want to know what could happen 🙈 is it literally a huge needle into the spine or have I got that wrong aswell?! And does it slow labour down? X

Arwen7 · 27/09/2022 15:14

@Skl2021 I haven't actually had one myself but seen so many women (some with a low pain threshold) having one and it doesn't look like it's very painful, I think the worst is the thought of it and being anxious etc. the anaesthetist will numb your back first with a tiny needle so after that you should only feel a pressure feeling and not pain. Also if you have it when not in pain it helps!
I don't think it slows labour down by much tbh especially if on the drip as the synthetic oxytocin is doing its thing regardless, other than that we wait for an extra hour at the end if possible to allow for baby's head to come lower. It does increase the chances of instrumental though, although that chance is much lower if you have had babies before. Once you have had vaginal births it's less likely unless baby is distressed, and even then it's usually just a little help with the suction cup (and episiotomy) - but then again if you have an epidural it shouldn't be painful.

Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 15:19

@Arwen7 I think the thought of it scares me more and the unknown as I have a high pain threshold so I know I can do it. Also wanted to avoid instruments. I just want it over and done with now so I can stop thinking about it all 🤦 getting myself worked up when it might be ok! Thankyou for talking everything through with me ♥️ x

Arwen7 · 27/09/2022 15:24

No worries at all x
I think based on your previous experience, if you need the drip but have an epidural before starting it will be a very different experience as you will remove the pain and that will help a lot. Also you would have thought about it and taken the decisions that are best for you and your baby so you will feel more in control. Think about how you will have your baby in your arms very soon 💕 I hope all goes great x

arianasky · 27/09/2022 17:58

I be tested positive for COVID today 🙄 I've got an awful cough and tired but no other symptoms has anyone else has it in the third trimester? I've had the worst day a year since I found out I had a MMC, DP's Nan passed away early hours and we both have COVID it's unreal 🙄

OP posts:
barneymcgroo · 27/09/2022 18:13

I had covid at 29ish weeks - I felt grim for about two days, had a pretty nasty cough for another 5 or so. To be honest, the worst bit was the cough coupled with my pelvic floor deficiencies...

I'm so sorry you're having a tough day. It's hard when everything stacks up like that. I hope you can take some time and be with your DP's family. Sending hugs. X

Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 19:01

@arianasky so sorry your having such a hard time 😣 hope COVID isn't to bad for you ♥️ hugs from me too 🤗 xx

arianasky · 27/09/2022 19:40

@barneymcgroo ah thank you, Hopefulky I'll be similar then, what did you take for your cough? X

@Skl2021 thank you lovely and hugs to you too, how are you feeling about the induction now? X

OP posts:
Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 19:44

@arianasky I'm still scared not going to lie but im glad I have spoken to you all and been reassured and told everything. Think now I'm a bit more prepared about what could happen and how it happens and what I should ask for. So hoping it goes smoother than last time 🙌🤞 xx

sunnyd67 · 27/09/2022 20:28

@Skl2021 I don't have any advice as I'm so clueless about giving birth and what that feels like 😄 but I really hope it is easier than the last time and you have your rainbow in your arms in no time, I'm keeping everything crossed for an easy birth for you! X ❤️

@arianasky I am sorry to hear about your sad family news and I hope Covid isn't too bad for you. Take care.

I am nearly 35 weeks, for the last two days I have cramps in my back and baby seems to be low down and pushing on everything, people keep mentioning I have dropped again 😂 but this time I think actually have and I'm freaking out about pre term baby, midwife appointment on Friday, I will ask her then. But are these pains/cramps normal at this stage?

barneymcgroo · 27/09/2022 20:32

@arianasky Chocolate, largely... Would've loved something a bit stronger. Honey and lemon, I think there's a herbal lozenge thing that's suitable for pregnancy, but mainly chocolate - soothes the throat.

calimc83 · 27/09/2022 20:48

@arianasky sounds rubbish what you've been through lovely. Hope u and DH are ok? Are u vaccinated? I've just been notified I'm due my booster jab - but super scared! Did u have a booster in pregnancy at all? X

arianasky · 27/09/2022 21:07

@Skl2021 I have everything crossed for you that it will 💙

@barneymcgroo I'll just stick to Vicks and the paracetamol for now and hope it dies off in a day or two 🙏🏻

@sunnyd67 thank you 💕

@calimc83 yeah we're ok just exhausted thank you 💕I am triple vaxxed but my last jab was December 2021 I haven't had any while pregnant. I think I would have but now I've got COVID if I get asked to have one I'll wait until he's here then get it I think, it's such a tough choice.

OP posts:
Skl2021 · 27/09/2022 21:10

@sunnyd67 part of me wishes I didn't know what it felt like either 🤣 then I wouldn't be as panicked! I'm keeping everything crossed too thankyou 🙌♥️ x
