Can I stop my contractions for a few hours?

Hi night owls. I realise this sounds completely bat shit crazy but hear me out. (And don’t be mean, I’m truly desperate)

I‘m 77 hours into an excruciating latent labour. My contractions have ramped up to pain the likes of which I have never actually felt before. But they remain 5 minutes apart and the hospital have told me I will absolutely be turned away until I’m 3 in 10. (I have phoned back twice more to beg for help but the midwives are steadfast)

Every day, up until today, the contractions have stopped for 3-4 hours in the afternoon and given me a chance to eat without vomiting and get a few hours of much needed sleep. But not today!

I’m exhausted and really emotional. I can’t do much of anything because I have to stop every 5 minutes and get onto my knees.

So, my crazy question is… has anyone been in this situation before? And can you recommend anything that would encourage a break in contractions for a while? Thank you.

There's no such thing as 'prime baby season'. Maternity units in the UK are completely full and understaffed all year regardless of which month it is.

There is a prime baby season but it's end of September 9mths after Christmas Party season.😳

However Op needs checked out.

I didn't experience the low down pains you're describing between contractions. Can you call the hospital and ask them? And if there is even a change of pre-eclampsia (that headache sounds bad and unusual) please get it looked into. I didn't develop pre-eclampsia until I went into labour after a textbook pregnancy. It came on extremely quickly and I had an eclamptic seizure about two minutes after giving birth.

Highfivemum · 29/06/2022 15:20

I have had pre- eclampsia 4 times. One of the symptoms was white lines across my eyes. You say you haven’t got it, how do you know. Literally you can have little signs. You need to get checked out straight away. Please take yourself in. Good luck

Aguanatural · 29/06/2022 15:21

Hope you’re okay OP.

I had this. The midwives wouldn’t support me at all until I was so exhausted it became dangerous. The midwives finally rang the hospital. When I arrived they took one look at me and suggested an epidural. It changed the whole thing, still took him ages to come but I had the strength for the three hours of pushing it took to get him out before they had to cut me open.

You know how you feel. If you aren’t coping, take yourself to hospital and get checked over. You still have all the work to do if you’re having a. Vaginal birth and being exhausted will not help. Good luck. X

At the hospital. Blood pressure and urine are superb and baby isn’t OP but IS in a funny position with her arm raised, causing herself and my progress an obstruction. Which is partly why I didn’t know I’d been… leaking waters for 4 days!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I feel like a fucking idiot.

I'm a measly 4cm dilated and waiting to see a consultant. Talk of EMCS.

Thank you all for convincing me to come up. ❤️

I never had 3 contractions in 10 minutes I had 2 in 10 quite far apart.
I lied to the midwives just to be admitted, when I went in I was 4cm!
I couldn't sleep as the contractions were too painful despite pethidine. My baby was back to back so I did get a lot of sharp pains in my thigh, pelvic and bottom area.
I had a long latent phase of about a week as well of on and off contractions. Actual labour once admitted was 18 hours, 😢 I ended up having an epidural and he was born 4 hours after but luckily only 20mins of pushing.

Triptop · 29/06/2022 15:28

Thank goodness you went in! Good luck! Hope you have baby in your arms soon!

LittleBear21 · 29/06/2022 15:32

Glad you went in OP. Don't feel daft, you listened to your body and your baby and are where you should be now. Looking forward to hearing your little one has arrived safely!

Wouldloveanother · 29/06/2022 15:35

How exciting, meeting baby soon! This will be a very special moment, I hope the pain meds are kicking in and that you’ve got that baby grow on standby!

lunar1 · 29/06/2022 15:35

Hopefully your baby will be here soon, you are in the right place finally.

Sometimes midwives miss things, with ds1 I begged the dumb sod to check me again.

She was incredibly patronising and spoke to me like I was three. I delivered the head while she ignored me and DH just pulled the emergency bell to get someone else.

DS2 was born in the corridor because they wanted to move me. They didn't believe my labour was so fast with ds1, if the midwife had listened to me she might have had time to put gloves on 🤦🏻‍♀️

ladydoris · 29/06/2022 15:39

You won't have to much time to exchange by now. Pleased that you are going to get sorted. congrats on your new babe in advance.❤

HSKAT · 29/06/2022 15:39

So pleased you went in.
What a few days for you.
Don't feel like an idiot you weren't to know it's their job to find out!
Hope all goes well good luck

megletthesecond · 29/06/2022 16:02

Glad you're in and in good hands. Hopefully they'll do a standard EMCS quite soon.

Quicknamechangefortoday · 29/06/2022 16:25

You’re not an idiot. You’re absolutely bloody knackered and in agony. A big unmumsnetty hug for you 💗 Baby will be here soon 💗

mathanxiety · 29/06/2022 18:27

Hope they'll give you antibiotics. Leaking fluid for four days means you could have picked up an infection. Baby should have been out at most 24 hours after the leaking started.

Crossing my fingers that you are recovering from a CS at this point and that you and baby are doing well.

EllieJai44 · 29/06/2022 22:58

Been keeping up with this thread all day, I hope everything is well OP and baby is out now and you can rest! Good luck or congratulations whichever the current situation is!

WonderWoop · 29/06/2022 23:06

Sounds horrendous, feel for you so much. Hopefully baby is out via sunroof by now.
