@laurenGame oh love 🥴 I’m sorry you’ve been scared into making a decision. What you’ve been told isn’t based on any evidence.
Just to say - you can absolutely walk away at any time, if you don’t feel right about continuing.

But, I understand you may well feel that you’ve made your decision now and want to stick with it - in which case, remember your body is built for this! Try not to be frightened of the pain of labour, it’s your body working super hard to bring your baby here, nothing bad is happening to you. You could maybe try listening to some relaxation or Hypnobirthing tracks (Positive Birth Company or Headspace are both great) to help you feel calmer? And for the next time you see the Dr, don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need to feel comfortable, and take the time you need to make decisions - don’t let them rush you. It’s your right to make an informed decision, and you have to give consent - no one can make you do anything. And remember - you’ll get to meet your baby soon!

Lots of love and hugs @laurenGame xxx

Lianna93 · 28/06/2022 19:18

@laurenGame You've got this lovely! 💪🏻💪🏻 Hopefully it won't be a long labour & baby will be here before you know it 🥰

Good luck @laurenGame hope it all goes well for you x

MollyRover · 28/06/2022 19:44

@laurenGame sending solidarity your way. I'm in the same boat, family all overseas (except MIL and SIL) so I understand the feeling of isolation. Trust your mum, and the medical professionals. You got this xx

strawberrysummer19 · 28/06/2022 22:13

Just to update @KizboBaggins the midwife went though the results said everything looks like, amniotic fluid is on the lower side but still ok and re the placenta she said the results from scan are all normal so stay off Google!!
Having another scan in 2 wks so feel better and reassured now xx

KizboBaggins · 29/06/2022 06:50

@strawberrysummer19 great news - I must admit I googled it after you said and was worried for you 😳😂 Google is the worst. Glad all is ok!

Lianna93 · 29/06/2022 07:53

Anyone finding themselves waking up ridiculously early these days?

My pattern recently has been to wake between half 4 & half 5 and then I can't get back to sleep so then I find come 8/9 I'm needing to nap 😩😂

OP posts:
SamanthaVimes · 29/06/2022 08:07

@Lianna93 I’ve been waking up really early… apart from today when I was asleep AND my toddler was asleep but my arsehole cat decided to wake me up at 5am by climbing the curtains / scratching the cupboard/ generally being a pain in the arse! So annoyed!
I reminded him that he’d make a lovely cushion if he’s not careful 😅
I did have 2 naps yesterday though so it could be worse I suppose!

SamanthaVimes · 29/06/2022 08:09

Related to sleep is anyone else getting mad hormone dreams? I’d forgotten from last time how intense they could be, and they’re definitely worse if I’m too warm. Last night I was in a haunted house which was unpleasant!
I ended up putting an audiobook on to help me go back to sleep.

beetree1 · 29/06/2022 08:21

I haven’t had weird dreams this time round but I feel like I’m up every couple hours bursting for a wee. My lovely dd woke me up at 4.50 this morning and went back to bed but I’ve been awake since. I’m pretty much having a 2 hr nap as well every day when she does I’m just so exhausted all the time 😅

AppleTree16 · 29/06/2022 08:44

@SamanthaVimes me! I’ve been having very intense dreams about the baby arriving / being in labour / baby being born with teeth 😬

NamelessBaby1 · 29/06/2022 08:48

@SamanthaVimes yes definitely been getting weird dreams which I never had pre pregnancy! Although I think my husband wins for weird dreams as he's been dreaming about the baby being born and speaking to him in full sentences immediately 🤣

@Lianna93 yeah my sleep pattern is all over the place at the moment, and as with @SamanthaVimes I also have an annoying cat who keeps claiming my leg pillow for herself so I can't get comfy properly!

MollyRover · 29/06/2022 08:49

I've had serious insomnia in the 1st and 3rd trimesters, at this stage I need to nap a few times during the day (about 30 mins at a time). Have to get up to take DC1 to school in the mornings and at the weekends I want to spend time with DH and DC1 so get up anyway. Since I've been on leave it's pretty boring during the week without them, and I don't have much energy to do anything anyway. Really frustrating.

ChinChilly · 29/06/2022 09:40

@SamanthaVimes Yep to the weird dreams, I had them in the first trimester and they’re back the last few nights. @AppleTree16 Baby born with teeth 😂😂 bet that is kinda creepy.

I woke up in the night with the most intense period pains and lower back ache, managed to get back to sleep but this morning (sorry TMI warning) I had to run to the toilet due to a rush of discharge 🙄

strawberrysummer19 · 29/06/2022 10:07

@KizboBaggins me too was googling in triage

Just seen my midwife and even more reassured

She said it's very difficult to measure fluid at this gestation, the placenta will start to age also! She said it's all very normal but I still think comments shouldn't be made to women that then go into panic mode! Just say everything is fine/normal?! But she said she is a very advanced sonographer and if there were any worries I would be spending to a DR

Anyway all is good, I had s braxton hick whilst she was doing the Doppler!

Baby is head down but in my notes she's written this - ' ceph low ' in the presentation box

I've googled it but does anyone know if this is back to back? I forgot to ask

LOL = Left Occipito Lateral. The baby is lying on their mother's left side, head down, with their back (and the back of their head or occiput) facing woman's side.

X

strawberrysummer19 · 29/06/2022 10:13

Oh and baby is 3/5 engaged if that means anything ? X did anyone else get measurements at this stage ? X

Lianna93 · 29/06/2022 10:17

Just woke from my nap 😂😂

I'm with you all with the cats! Thankfully, I'm being woke up with my older cat wanting cuddles rather than being a pain in the arse like he normally is 😂

The dreams as well 😳 I had one the other day that felt like a proper horror movie - it was that intense that I woke up & my heart was pounding. It was horrible 😩

Sooner this baby is out the better 😭😂 Had really thought she'd be here by now but clearly she's got other plans 🙄 I'm now 39+1. Got my midwife tomorrow so will see if baby has finally engaged 🤞🏻

OP posts:
Peters27 · 29/06/2022 10:31

@strawberrysummer19 Ceph low just means cephalic in medical language as in head down low.3/5 is the amount of of the babies head still palpable usually so 3/5 of head still palpable in your abdomen the more the head becomes engaged im the pelvis he lower the number gets!👍however the head may not engage fully until much later on/even in labour!I was also 3/5 2 weeks ago at my 37 week appointment!

Also don't worry re back to back yet the baby does a rotation in labour to get occipital anterior(ie back of the head facing out)if it doesn't happen they sometimes have to help it turn but most often baby does it themselves!

strawberrysummer19 · 29/06/2022 10:33

@Peters27 thank you! Makes sense. I remember being engaged with my first from weeks and still went full term. Although I'm Brie be induced at 39+1 with this one x

MollyRover · 29/06/2022 10:34

@ChinChilly that really seems like you're starting, best of luck!!

Gaily82 · 29/06/2022 15:12

Sending positive thoughts @laurenGame, I feel for you and it's totally natural to feel nervous, this is such a massive thing for our bodies to go through but as others have said, our bodies know exactly what to do when giving birth...I know it will be mind over matter when you're actually going through it, but you are so strong and I hope you're hanging in there. It will all be worth it when your baby arrives 😍

I hope you are getting on ok after your inductions @ShellUK09 and @CaptainCarp . And congratulations @NotAsOldAsIFeel on the birth of Samuel!

@SamanthaVimes I've been getting hip pain in bed aswell, but also during the day. It was quite bad over the last few weeks when I've been walking and the midwife told me it was because the baby had changed position (she was on her side with her back facing my left side, which is where I was having most of the pain). It seems slightly better over the last few days but I'm not sure if that means she has moved again or not. I'm just feeling generally uncomfortable now though, my bump feels so full and heavy, like it's stretched to the max. When I turn in bed it takes so much effort, and I can feel the baby sliding from one side to the other...I always worry that I'm going to squash her when I lie on my side but hopefully not! I cannot wait to sleep on my back again.

@annie1994 I did the virtual bra fit consultation with M&S last week, they basically just tell you a bit about nursing bras and I measured myself, then she told me which size(s) to buy. She said to go up a cup size from what you measure to allow for when the milk comes in. I thought I'd better get a couple of nursing bras so I have them when the baby comes, so fingers crossed they'll be the right size. I was measuring 2 cup sizes bigger than my original size, and the nursing bras I've bought are 3 sizes bigger! I was amazed that I would need to size up so much, I've always been quite small in that department so it feels a bit strange! I bought a few nice bras from New Look website, one was a pack of 2 which feel very comfortable (and sure enough they feel like a good fit, but have some space left for milk coming in), they have others in the sale aswell. There are some nice looking ones on the Asda/George website aswell but I haven't tried those so far.

@Coco9910 I've been trying to do perineal massage aswell since 34 weeks and I'm never sure if I'm doing it right either! It still feels a bit uncomfortable/burny at times. I've been doing it 3 times a week but maybe I should be doing it more regularly now that I'm 38+5!

@MollyRover @MoiraRoseIsMyQueen I'm feeling the same as you about sleep and it just feels so much harder to drag my body around than it did a few weeks ago! I've been getting a bit of an ache at the sides of my bump too when I turn in bed, I'm not sure if it's because of the baby's weight pulling down on one side until I move again, but it can be quite achy sometimes. It feels like she is constantly pushing on my bladder aswell. @Lianna93 I've been waking up super early for the last few weeks, well I wake up to pee maybe 3-4 times but last night I think I saw every hour on the clock, I was just so uncomfortable. Yesterday afternoon I had a nap for 30 minutes, I just couldn't keep my eyes open. I've been doing the free relaxation hour that Blossom does, which is on Wednesdays, so I did that earlier and almost fell asleep but it's nice to just take a bit of time out from tidying the house, there constantly seems to be things to do!

@strawberrysummer19 I saw my midwife last week and she has written on my Badger Notes 3/5 for engagement but she didn't say anything about it really. She said that the baby is head down but when I noticed that in my notes I Googled it and found it was exactly what @Peters27 described. I also asked her about when the baby might be turned to have her back facing my tummy (at the moment I think she's the opposite) but the midwife said it's quite normal in a first pregnancy for the baby to wait right up until labour to move into that position, although if she doesn't it would still be alright (hopefully!).

It's always nice to read everyone's updates...I can't believe this will be the thread where most of us will be announcing the birth of our babies 😊

Gaily82 · 29/06/2022 15:30

@beetree1 These are the snacks I've accumulated so far, do you think I've gone a bit OTT?! 😂I've been buying bits and bobs as I've gone along, quite a few oaty/flapjack type things, dried fruit and nuts, Lucozade sport (also going to take water as the midwife said that Lucozade is good for electrolytes but not for hydration. I have a small carton of coconut water too but not sure if I'll like it), a few chocolate things, fruit sweets for dry mouth, popcorn and crisps...and I might throw in a few sandwiches, banana, and maybe babybel cheese! 😄I'm going to have to go through everything and be selective because no way am I eating all of that! Especially not in labour...but I just wanted to have a bit of a selection. If I'm hungry after the labour at least I'll have plenty to choose from. Oh I also got some glucose tablets as the midwife recommended it for an energy boost just incase I don't feel like eating much during the labour.

Hi all, baby boy was born today after 9 hours of labour.
Start was great, epidural was amazing and I felt high. Then I was 9cm dilated and had to push and Just couldn't feel anything down there. We had to wait for epidural to wear off and still nothing after 2 hrs of pushing.

Baby started getting distressed. OB came and took over, he had to use vacuum and I was in agony screaming the place down. Paediatrician was there too which freaked me out. Anyway I got second degree tears and baby is all good he just has a sore head now for a day.

I was shaking uncontrollably for hours and gave birth with no pain relief and I don't know how women do it voluntarily Sad I'll be honest I think I'm a bit traumatised.

I think we are both In a bit of 'what have we done' stage which makes me sad but I don't know if I'm just sleep deprived and hormonal.
🌸

MoiraRoseIsMyQueen · 29/06/2022 16:00

@laurenGame sending you a massive hug, I’m so sorry it was traumatic. I think the hours and days after birth can feel very raw, regardless of the type of birth you have, so be super kind to yourself and give yourself time to process. It’s ok not to want to think about it for a while, especially when you’re focusing on your new bub and healing your body. Have you got lots of support at home for when you’re discharged?
