@Lianna93 I darent look down there... midwife checked my stitches today and said they look fine but I can't bring myself to look. I'm just bathing with badedas daily and praying for a fast heal... it's horrendous

paintfairy · 21/07/2022 18:39

@ChinChilly I'm sorry the birth was traumatic for you. Definitely not ideal. Congratulations on your baby though. 🎉 I hope she's out of NICU soon.
@Peters27 Congratulations to you too! I've definitely heard the pessary can over stimulate. It doesn't sound pleasant at all. I think you are allowed to feel traumatised! I'm pleased you are home though and all is OK.

Had to laugh at the looking at vagina comments. 🤣🤣 Yeah I definitely think it's best not to! What you don't know can't hurt you, and all of that? And it'll fix! Eventually. No one needs to have lasting images in their minds of that......
Interesting reading the breast feeding tips too! It definitely sounds like a rollercoaster on that front. I'm not sure I'm looking forwards to it.

CaptainCarp · 21/07/2022 20:42

@Fingerscrossedfor2021HK congratulations on your baby boy! I hope you are recovering from your c-section OK & fingers crossed feeding becomes easier.

@missv556 sounds like tongue tie is an issue so hopefully you can resolve that soon & little one will feed easier.

@Lianna93 yay! Glad to hear she's feeding & I'm sure your supply / babys technique will increase/ get better & you won't need to keep topping up.

@Peters27 I haven't dared look at my stiches / tear. I did get DP to have a look earlier this week (3 weeks recovery!) he said it didn't look to bad. I'm still dare not get a mirror out.

ChinChilly · 22/07/2022 07:01

Thank you everyone for your well wishes for baby, she’s still in NICU but we got to spend lots of time with her yesterday. They were hoping to take her oxygen away last night, if she manages ok for
12 hours then we can move to a transitional care ward together then next step is home 🤞🏼

Thanks for everyone’s advice on the c-section scar, They’ve been really good with keeping on top of of me meds and luckily OH is off work now until 21st August so will ha plenty of help at home, good job really baby was born the same evening my dad tested positive for COVID so won’t be seeing my parents for a while. I was sore last night and abit this morning just waiting for the morning meds to kick in, I think I need to remember it hasn’t even been 36 hours since I was sliced open and be abit more patient with myself

Sorry about all those struggling with breast feeding, I only managed to attempt once before Amelia was scooped away and she seems to be guzzling her bottles so not sure we will re-establish breast feeding but I was always open about breast
or formula.

How many babies have we got left to arrive now? I feel like we had a sudden influx the last week I can’t keep up 🫢

missv556 · 22/07/2022 09:42

@ChinChilly yeah don't feel the need to rush feeling better. I'm 9 days post slicing and still experiencing pains here and there. I sneezed yesterday for the first time since the section and thought I was gonna rip right open lol. I went a day without taking my painkillers a few days ago thinking I didn't need them. Wrong. I'm like 95% recovered but still need them so make sure you have a good supply of paracetamol and ibuprofen for home once you're back

NamelessBaby1 · 22/07/2022 10:12

@missv556 ah sneezing sounds like torture post zip installation lol!

@ChinChilly I'm still waiting, 41weeks today and still not so much as had my show yet, although I have been feeling a bit crampy all night so maybe that's finally something happening?! Starting to feel like this baby is never coming and my OH keeps winding me up saying I've just made the whole thing up, haha!

KizboBaggins · 22/07/2022 10:17

@CaptainCarp how do your stitches feel 3 weeks after? I so impatient I just want them healed now!

@NamelessBaby1 fingers crossed things get moving for you soon ! My labour started with mild cramps through the night so I hope you get some movement today

ChinChilly · 22/07/2022 10:36

@missv556 Did they send you home with any meds or just paracetamol or ibuprofen? I’ll definitely keep on top of them then! I did a tiny cough yesterday and had forgotten, soon remembered though so not looking forward to my first sneeze! How have you found showering? Our bath is quite high to step into and we haven’t got a seperate shower cubicle so I’m thinking I’m going to need OH to help me in and out of the shower atleast.

@NamelessBaby1 ooo that sounds promising, hopefully it is something starting for you!

SamanthaVimes · 22/07/2022 11:46

@ChinChilly I was given dihydracodeine to take home (which I’m sure I’ve spelt wrong!) I’ve only taken a couple when the paracetamol and ibuprofen combo aren’t doing the trick.

I’m finding nights more painful as it’s difficult to go from led flat to sat up with the scar but am managing pretty well in the day. Definitely not ready to stop taking the painkillers though!

Coco9910 · 22/07/2022 12:51

@ChinChilly I’m still waiting too! 39+1 today and the thought she could be another 3 weeks is making me very impatient 😅

missv556 · 22/07/2022 13:12

@ChinChilly no they didn't send me home with any pain relief. I thought they would tbf. But I'm managing on the paracetamol/ibuprofen cocktail. If you can hold a pillow against your stomach for a cough or sneeze then it helps a lot. Unfortunately the sneeze came on way too quick to catch it 😂 showering is ok. Literally as soon as I was discharged I went home and had a shower and i felt fantastic. Mine is a shower over the bath and it was much easier getting in and out than it was at 39 weeks pregnant.

@SamanthaVimes agree with the pain being worst overnight. Agony quite honestly when I have to get out of bed to feed/change the little monster but during the day I'm fit as a butchers dog. Not had any pain relief today so far

ChinChilly · 22/07/2022 15:11

@Coco9910 exciting, good luck!!

@SamanthaVimes ahh I’ll stock up on paracetamol and ibuprofen then

@missv556 I can’t wait to have a shower I must say I feel like a right riff bag.

It looks like I’m going to be discharged without baby ☹️ The plan was to transfer us both to a transitional care ward today but Amelia had a bit of a blip this morning so she’ll be staying in and obviously they need my bed so I think I’ll be being kicked out today, feels so wrong to be leaving hospital without your baby

missv556 · 22/07/2022 15:56

My bubba gained a bit of weight so no hospital for him 😁

strawberrysummer19 · 22/07/2022 15:56

Hi everyone

I haven't had time to read everyone's posts but happy to announce the birth of my daughter Faith weighing 8lb 3 on Wednesday.

I was induced and had a forceps delivery with a failed induction. Contractions came on thick and fast and epidural only worked on one side so I didn't cope well with the pain.

Pessary in at 1130pm, contractions started 3am, she was born 6:20pm next day.

Unfortunately had a 2 litre blood loss which has made me feel very poorly and very sore. Didn't realise the forceps was such a hard long recovery

But absolutely in love with our new addition to our family xx

Lianna93 · 22/07/2022 16:34

@ChinChilly So sorry to hear that about your wee baby, hopefully it won't be too much longer and she'll be home safe in your arms 🥰

@missv556 so good that your little one gained weight, you must be so relieved 🥰

@strawberrysummer19 congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Wishing you a speedy recovery 🥰

Wee update reg breastfeeding: Tried again this morning with the shield, unfortunately baby wasn't satisfied as half my milk ended up soaking the bed 🙃 Had an absolute meltdown feeling like I've failed so have made the decision to stop breastfeeding & focus on pumping as it's not worth the toll it's taking on my mental health.
Can get about 30ml in 15 minutes from each breast and trying to pump every two hours to build up a supply and encourage my breasts to make more.
Still topping baby up with formula in the meantime though.

strawberrysummer19 · 22/07/2022 16:44

Sorry failed epidural I mean xx

KizboBaggins · 22/07/2022 17:03

@ChinChilly hope you're doing ok, can't imagine how tough it is having to leave without her. She'll be with you before you know it.

@strawberrysummer19 congratulations! Sounds quite traumatic but glad you're both ok and she's here now. Look after yourself.

@Lianna93 good for you - you know exactly what's right for you and baby.

I have no idea if my boy is getting enough milk. Loads of milk dribbles out when he feeds... idk if that's normal. I guess we'll find out on weigh in with the midwife on Sunday.

Anyone else feel like they need to take some time for themselves? Like I need to wash my hair desperately and just feel more human but as soon as baby goes down to nap I just want to do nothing. I should be napping in the day too but I just can't. It's only day 3 and I'm already feeling burnt out!

annie1994 · 22/07/2022 17:11

@strawberrysummer19 sorry your birth didn’t go to plan and you had complications but congrats on the birth of your little girl 😌

@Lianna93 I understand your struggles with BF, I struggled both times and needed nipple shields. I understand the pain of your milk leaking all over the bed when the shield has unstuck a bit!! I ended up formula feeding from 2 weeks with DC1 and 1 week with this baby. Just remember fed is best and whatever you choose to do is right for you and your baby. When your kid is at school, no one will ever be able to tell who was breastfed, formula fed, combination, pumped milk…. 😌 sounds like you’re doing well with your pumping!

missv556 · 22/07/2022 18:21

@KizboBaggins I don't nap at all. I either get shit done that I need to do like shower or I just sit and vegetate until the next feed.

@Lianna93 good for you for putting your mental health first. I came very close to packing in the breastfeeding too cos its just sooo much harder than you can ever imagine so I don't blame you at all.

@ChinChilly hope your little girl is back with you as soon as possible

Lianna93 · 22/07/2022 18:39

@KizboBaggins I'm absolutely feeling the same & I've only been home with baby for a few days. I'm already nervous for DH to go back to work - I can't imagine being left alone with the baby right now. I'm hoping by next week though I'll be more mobile & the pain from my tear & episiotomy will be minimal 🤞🏻
I also can't stop crying - the baby blues are unreal.

Really appreciate all your kind words regarding breast feeding 🥰 I honestly take my hat off to everyone who has managed to BF because this has been way harder than I ever anticipated.

OP posts:
CaptainCarp · 22/07/2022 20:21

@KizboBaggins it's not feeling too bad now. I only take paracetamol at night because the way I manoeuvre in bed seems to give me a bit of pain.

I got discharged with anti clotting injections & iron (& antibiotics) but I was only on ibuprofen & paracetamol in hospital so didn't get given any. Luckily had a bit of a stock.

Sneezing & coughing is now not too bad. Occasional big sneeze still feels a bit strange & hurts a little. Trying not to cough in hospital was the worst!

KizboBaggins · 22/07/2022 20:30

@Lianna93 I'm glad I'm not the only one crying... I've cried like 4 times today and DH keeps asking what's wrong and I literally have no idea. I really don't want him to go back to work. I'm terrified. I'm nervous for every single night too cause Austin isn't sleeping much and just wants to feed every hour 😕

I think being more mobile will help definitely! Personally I'm missing being able to walk the dog. We might venture out tomorrow, maybe that will help.

@CaptainCarp urgh I feel you with the sneezing. Thought my vagina was gonna fully drop out earlier when I did one.

SamanthaVimes · 22/07/2022 20:33

@ChinChilly hopefully Amelia will be home with you soon! I can imagine it must feel awful leaving her

@Lianna93 there’s a group on Facebook called something like Exclusive Pumpers UK that I’ve heard good things about, you might find some tips on there. My cousin pumped for about 9 months before she switched to formula. I think pumping is so impressive, I never managed to make it work at all, never got a drop! You’re super woman!

To anyone struggling with any part of this baby stuff, try and remember that all the hormones will be magnifying every feeling. My antenatal classes said it’s 200x more than pmt hormones and that’s on top of all the physical stuff we’ve been through so please please make sure you cut yourself some serious slack!

ChinChilly · 22/07/2022 21:03

@strawberrysummer19 congratulations on your little girl

@Lianna93 sounds like you made the right decision re feeding! You have to take care of yourself too!

Thanks for the support everyone, I’ve had to stay in tonight as one of my bloods hasn’t come back but I’ll definitely be turfed out tomorrow and bubs will need to stay in for atleast 5 days as she’ll need 5 days of antibiotics via IV but she’s had her oxygen reduced again over the day and is much more settled which is good. All the babies on her NICU unit are tiny premmies and Amelia is the little tank in the corner 😂 bless her

CaptainCarp · 22/07/2022 21:48

@ChinChilly sorry to hear you'll be to leave before your little girl. Fingers crossed you she is in for the shortest time possible.

Luckily I ended up with a private room for my last night and day in hospital as I got discharged then readmitted before I'd even left the ward!
It meant I had a shower before heading home as it was ensuite, DP was in the room with Skye & so I felt I could it steady.

@strawberrysummer19 congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!
I hope you are recovering OK as the birth sounds a bit traumatic. Have they given a transfusion?

@missv556 so glad he's now gaining weight! Sure once his tongue tie is fully resolved it'll be easier.

@KizboBaggins the car jolted on the way to hospital for the 5 day check. I honestly thought everything had ripped open! Got the midwife to check & stitches were all fine but I cried for a good 20 minutes and was sore all day.
DP felt so bad but it was a complete accident.

@Lianna93 you are definitely not a failure! I applaud you for persevering so long with the issues you had. Also seconding @annie1994 fed is best. No on will know if a child was breast bottle or formula fed when they are weaned / at school!
