My LO has suspected CMPA so prescribed a special formula. Fingers crossed it works. For anyone wondering she had incase they suspect their baby has it, too:

bright yellow liquidy stools with mucus in x6 a day
wheezing after feeding
a rash
wind
rumbly belly
dry skin

Arching her back and bringing her knees up in discomfort
Reflux
colic

two days in and she’s down to two poos, still mucus but apparently takes a few weeks to clear up, hopefully works!!

also, cheeky madam has taken to only wanting to fall asleep on my boob next to me or in my arms, I’ve got a bjorn mini on the way - anyone else got one of these carriers? Really hoping she settles in one so I can move about. Anyone else feel glued to their sofa at the moment? 😩 I love being active and it’s making me feel a bit gross and useless sat down all day. DH goes back to work in a week and a half so not sure how I’ll manage at the moment!!

beansprout55 · 08/07/2022 17:50

@Letsbekindplease yes to the sweating!!! My feet sweat when I'm just sat down not even wearing shoes, it's vile! 😂

What are you all doing with the babies in this heat? I really want to go and sit in the garden but anxious that he'll get too hot (even though I'd keep him in the shade and not let his skin see sunlight). We went to mums briefly before and he in his pram wearing just a nappy and vest, with a muslin to cover his body, but his head felt pretty hot. I got anxious and went home - took an armpit temp and it was 37.2 - seems pretty hot?? It's hard for me to tell how hot he is by touch as my hands are constantly on fire due to hormones.
Sooooo, what are all you ladies doing?

Rolledthedice · 08/07/2022 18:39

@laurenGame and @Letsbekindplease I’m also struggling with the wind and settling my baby to sleep. Apparently this is normal for some babies and we just have to deal with it. Doesn’t make it any easier though!! I feel awful watching her grimace and struggle to get wind out when I lie her down to sleep. :( How old are yours? I’m combi feeding and trying to limit the air she sucks in, but it’s obviously not doing much good. I hope she manages to sleep better tonight.

Rolledthedice · 08/07/2022 18:39

We spend nearly an hour burping and only ever get a few out. It’s so frustrating!

laurenGame · 08/07/2022 20:41

@Rolledthedice mine is only 10 days but it's so distressing watching him suffer like this Sad
I'm also trying to limit the air he takes in but nothing seems to stop his gassy pains.

Paediatrician said no to infacol as no proper studies have shown it being efficient..? Also someone said on here it can make it worse.

Every day I'm trying something new hoping to help my bub. Today I'll start cutting out daily and caffeine.

Please share if you find something that works for you 🙏🏻

@Vimto1991 i feel like you’ve described my baby just minus the reflux, colic and wheezing 😭😭😭 am going to call 111 in the morning for on advice should I wait for GP on Monday or take baby to hospital as his whole head ans fave is covered in a rash and now I’ve read this what you’ve said it all just clicks I am 90% sure he has CMPA my nephew had it really bad as a baby so it is in the family. I have sobbed looking at his poor skin I’ve seen 2 GP’s this week one said baby rash or heat rash the other said is eczema but it just wasn’t sitting well with me and the cream and bath stuff I had hasn’t made it any better. Spending the night researching CMPA ready to call tomorrow. How did you go about getting diaognosed.

@laurenGame i think it 100% made my baby worse 4 days without it now and we’re still getting trapped wind (well I now think it is belly pains due to CMPA) but it has calmed down a lot and more wind is coming up. I have heard good things about gripe water but I am yet to try it and also not many studies on that.

Letsbekindplease · 09/07/2022 10:03

Glad I’m not the only one sweating. It’s awful lol.

my little one is 4 weeks next Tuesday @laurenGame another more settled night last night too. Fingers crossed we’re getting better although think it might be just a phase.

glad you got your little ones checked either the cows milk allergy. Hope it gets better

Vimto1991 · 09/07/2022 11:20

@Flowerbug1994 I saw a GP who over the phone said reflux and colic. I then spoke to a HV who said push to try one of the prescription formulas, so went in with knowledge and said the HV said this - dd also had a poor weight gain week so at that point did take me more seriously. A doctor saw us in person and saw her dry arms, legs and face and along with the other symptoms prescribed us SMA Althera. Just going to try it for a bit but I may need to ask for a synthetic formula as they first prescribe one they still has dairy in but broken down. If you do some research and arm yourself with that, speak to a gp Monday and push to try it. If not and you can afford it, you can try a tub from Amazon to see if there’s any difference? Or look on groups on Facebook in your area. They seem to give them away if no longer needed, sealed and in date.
fingers crossed you can get it sorted. Are you getting mucus in loose stools? That’s a good indicator of an allergy.

Flowerbug1994 · 09/07/2022 11:42

@Vimto1991 yes getting mucus in stool I actually said to my mum has week is it normal for baby poo to be stringy. Currently sat in A & E as he woke this morning with slightly swollen eye lids so brought him in hoping to get sorted today as his face and head is covered in a rash and it’s only getting worse. I didn’t realise how common CMPA is until I started researching. My nephew also had i as a baby so it’s all just clicking into place now. He thankfully grew out of it by about 4 or 5.

Vimto1991 · 09/07/2022 12:39

@Flowerbug1994 I had never even heard of jt before, funnily enough I can’t tolerate milk, mom always thought I was lactose intolerant but who knows, maybe I have it, too.
hope you get sorted quickly so your little one feels better soon! It’s horrid watching them in discomfort isn’t it. 😩

Flowerbug1994 · 09/07/2022 15:28

@Vimto1991 i went in ready to fight them for it as soon as I said I think it’s this and rolled off his symptoms doctor
agreed with me done prescription hardest part was finding a pharmacy with it as hospital didn’t have any nutramigen. They prescribed 1 400g tin and I bought another until I can speak to my GP to prescribe at this point I don’t care if I have to pay everything I have just want my poor baby better.

Rolledthedice · 09/07/2022 23:08

@laurenGame I’ve decided to try giving baby Colief infant drops to see if it’s lactose that’s causing her so many wind issues. Will let you know if I see any improvement! Hope you and your little one are doing ok. x

I'm doing the same tonight. He's cried in pain all night. The darkest night of my life watching him in so much pain and coming to conclusion it definitely sounds like colic Sad Slept 40 mins.

Vimto1991 · 10/07/2022 17:08

@Flowerbug1994 hope LO feels a bit better on their new formula!

we have visitors around today and DD has gotten overtired. Only thing consoling her is my breast and she’ll fall asleep on me. There goes my chance at napping 🥲far too warm today, this week is going to be tough!

beansprout55 · 10/07/2022 18:48

Anyone using reusable nappies? And wipes? Looking into making the switch soon 🤔

Octoblockisadick · 10/07/2022 21:09

@beansprout55 we are using reusable wipes but not nappies yet. I'm considering it but haven't fully decided yet.
which brand are you planning on using?

Slanketeer · 10/07/2022 21:47

@beansprout55 We've dipped our toe into using reusable nappies just at home during the day at the moment and disposables while we're out and overnight. We have just a few newborn size from tots bots but have bought the full 'birth to potty' set when there was a good deal on - just waiting until he's big enough to start using them and transitioning to full time reusables. We used the quiz on The Nappy Lady website to help us work out what reusables would suit us best and have been really happy with them so far. Have been using a range of washable wipes from the beginning and to be honest they've all been good - I particularly like the ones that are just thin squares of fleece as they seem super gentle on his skin and dry really quick once washed.

beansprout55 · 10/07/2022 22:07

Don't have a plan yet @Octoblockisadick but definitely going to use them. Was just wondering what you lovely ladies who use them recommended.
Wow, thanks @Slanketeer - super helpful info there. Smile

InvisibleDragon · 11/07/2022 10:50

@beansprout55 we're using Cheeky wipes. 100x better than water wipes and no extra hassle. No big start up cost either.

Prema112 · 12/07/2022 08:55

Hi ladies, wondering if anyone can relate to our daytime nap trickiness. Jesse can't stay up much longer than 30 mins, if we try keep him up he just cries. He does all the sleepy cues-lots yawns etc. But he will not sleep!! He's not overtired as he's just been asleep for hours and he's only been awake 30 mins. He's not hungry and if I try feed him to sleep he gets angry. He just cries no matter what we do, sometimes takes an hour to get him to sleep for a 20 min nap 😱 We usually just pace and rock him with white noise which does eventually work

Anyone else?? Any ideas?!

Prema112 · 12/07/2022 08:56

I've ordered the love to dream swaddle 🤞🏼

beansprout55 · 12/07/2022 11:55

@Prema112 Henry was the same, until we started putting him on an awful brightly coloured Lemaze Play-mat that we were gifted which we are now so so grateful for 😂.
He'll stare at the bright colours for ages before he gets fussy! I sometimes put him on before a feed to wake him up as he'll start snoozing after 3 mins on the boob otherwise.

If you've tried that I can't think what else, other than the obvious nappy change, strip down to nappy to get cooler kind of thing. xx

beansprout55 · 12/07/2022 11:57

@InvisibleDragon going with the cheeky wipes! Thank you xx

Vimto1991 · 12/07/2022 14:09

Some woman in Morrisons just stroked my dds face and gave me unsolicited advice. Worst thing is when she went to stroke her I said no and pushed the pram forward (but couldn’t get out of reach as was at a checkout) and I said no too quietly (although loud enough for DH to hear and he was further away than the woman). I am mortified and upset with myself that I didn’t stand up more and not let her touch her at all :(

RoseValleyRambles · 12/07/2022 23:26

@prima112 Beyond what you're doing, I find a dealer and a pacifier help in tricky nap circumstances.

@beansprout55 cheeky wipes here - they're fab with poos. So much better than disposables or cotton wool. We're trying the close pop-in newborn nappies, with mixed results so far. I think I'm a bit too tentative about tightening them properly, so need to keep experimenting. We've had bamboozles (?) Recommended to us once he's a bit bigger.
