Congratulations @MsBubbles85

@beansprout55 no breastfeeding cover here. I've always been very conservative in my dress but a switch has flicked in my head about breastfeeding and I don't care who sees so long as my baby is ok. I've really surprised myself! I've had people ask me to hand them the baby for a cuddle as they didn't realise I was feeding her, so it can be very discreet. I don't feel comfortable using a cover, especially if the weather is warm as I feel it would just heat her up.

@Vimto1991 lots of gurgles and wheezes here too, not just on the bottle but when I first let down as well - think it comes out quite fast bless her. Paced feeding made a difference with the bottle wheezing though.

Octoblockisadick · 04/07/2022 21:01

I've been so rubbish at keeping up recently!

Congratulations to all the new babies ❤️.
@beansprout55 I've ordered some breastfeeding tops from shein, very cheap but good quality and very good at hiding everything. I've added a picture of my current situation, you would never know I'm feeding tbh.

Agree with the people saying breastfeeding is hard. I'm struggling with wanting to do things and the cluster feeding. Part of me just wants to sit on the sofa and feed all day, but then I also want to be able to do things and not have to feed constantly. However today has been better, less constant feeding and more sleeps. Also got a stretchy wrap to carry baby and its so good. He loves it, just goes to sleep on me and I've got my hands free to do things.

Is anyone else having to rock their baby to sleep to get them to even go to sleep?! DD is 4 weeks old today and she needs constant rocking to get to sleep but it's taking 30/45 min at a time... it's getting a bit unsustainable... :(

beansprout55 · 04/07/2022 22:19

@Octoblockisadick wow yes! Can't tell what you're doing! Thanks for the recommendation, deffo going to look into getting some of those.

I hear you about cluster feeding. Finding it so hard too. I had a MW appointment this afternoon and I asked her if it was normal was was happening at the moment - she assured me it is but also because he's 11 days old it's a growth spurt. Prior to the last two days he fed every 3 hours.

Attached is us so far today!

@beansprout55 yep, our days look like that too. I use an app which tells me he fed for 5 1/2 hours yesterday, and that’s fairly typical.

Flowerbug1994 · 05/07/2022 01:02

@DaimDillyDoo yes to the rocking well more comforting and holding baby has never gone down awake. I always get him asleep in my arms then put in pram of a day or leave him on me. And then get him asleep and in his halo of a night time. If I try to put him down awake he just stares and me and won’t go to sleep. I don’t mind though it takes about 15 mins after feed. He is 4 weeks and 5 days.

Prema112 · 05/07/2022 02:09

@RoseValleyRambles We play peekaboo, he does naked time on his bs k and front, I top and tail him, massage with coconut oil, chat to him and pull faces, read a book, my husband plays guitar to him, goes quite quick with the limited awake time

@DaimDillyDoo yes! Lots of rocking and shushing. Can take a while if we miss the sleepy window, my arms ache!

@beansprout55 Get a feeding app! I like FeedBaby gives you daily totals for feeding/sleep/poop etc

I find public feeding stressful as I have a forceful letdown and he often cries/comes on and off boob so constantly exposing me 🤦‍♀️ Milk everywhere...

Letsbekindplease · 04/07/2022 17:42

@laurenGame you should order a “love to dream” swaddle. Look at the reviews. A lot of people saying they had a baby that didn’t like being out down and they tried LTDS and it worked for them. It’s expensive but might be worth a go.

After I read your message I realised I had one as a gift! Put it on the bub last night and we had a great night's sleep- mostly on me but still a result. I feel like a different person

Not sure if it's the swaddle that made him sleep well but I've ordered some more this morning - thank you sooo much for recommending SmileStar

Letsbekindplease · 05/07/2022 09:17

@laurenGame brilliant!! I need to follow my own recommendations lol. I’m going to order one too.

glad You got a bit of a sleep x

@Bango2019 has she had a poo yet? I can imagine the stress for you 😮‍💨 I struggle with constipation during pregnancy and if I don't go for 3 days I start to worry ... if so annoying

@Rolledthedice what a gorgeous baby. Congratulations 🥳!!!! Any advice on how to have a calm labour haha? I feel like I'll just panic!

@Lostintranslatio good luck, I bet I'll be terrified too, try to trust your body, medicine, your midwife 💜 let us know how you go xx

Sorry for late reply. Yes, she had on her 6th day though. I have contacted community midwifes, Health Visitors and GP, all of them on day 6 as I was almost panicking😅GP got back to me with the prescription for infant suppositories, which we used and it's done the trick. It did not stay in the bum for 15min as it should as was out almost immediately, but it stimulated her to poo and she did it like 3 times. Never been that happy about poo in my life😄We are doing exercises and massage almost daily to help with the bowel movement as we are not popping every day.
Re your situation, not sure how good this is but people are saying that it helped them to settle the baby in the cot.

Bango2019 · 05/07/2022 09:58

@beansprout55 I have noticed that if I slightly elevate her head while she is lying down she has less reflux. And also lying down on the left side ( supervised though) helps with burping and reflux as well.

Vimto1991 · 05/07/2022 14:43

we went to a weigh in clinic today and dd is still not back to birth weight four weeks later. I’m absolutely gutted and just want to cry.
I told her about the mucus poo and other symptoms and she told me to really push the gp to prescribe CMPA friendly formula, I’m waiting on a call back but so worried they won’t.
this is supposed to be such a magical time but the fact she’s not even at weight yet is so upsetting, and knowing she isn’t gaining weight due to what she’s eating is making me so sad when we aren’t given an alternative. I may just have to buy a tin and trial it. We can’t afford for her to be ill. 😩. I just want to enjoy my time with my newborn. 😭 I’m so scared she will get even worse.

fpeg · 05/07/2022 15:34

@Vimto1991 sending you lots of love 💕 stick to your guns no matter how hard it is xxx

Rolledthedice · 05/07/2022 17:36

@Vimto1991 really hope you get the support you need with DD. Follow your instincts on this one!

@fpeg we’ve decided to follow Gina Ford’s routine as the nighttime wakings have left us exhausted (the fact I can’t seem to shift her gas after a feed so she won’t sleep comfortably is also making me miserable). I hope we aren’t too late to start - she’s 3 weeks old tomorrow! How long did it take you to see results?

laurenGame · 05/07/2022 17:51

@Rolledthedice when does Gina ford recommend to start the routine? Everywhere online it says a few months. Wondering if I should look into it much sooner with my bub

Rolledthedice · 05/07/2022 18:59

@laurenGame the book says start from birth! Which I think is what @fpeg did? We are starting on the 2 week old routine. Hoping it helps!

beansprout55 · 05/07/2022 19:08

@Rolledthedice @laurenGame @fpeg I bought the book today! Going to read it tonight. I skimmed through a little - easy read and sounds good.

Thanks for the tip @Bango2019 ! Will give that a go x

laurenGame · 05/07/2022 19:26

@Rolledthedice @beansprout55 @fpeg I wonder if there is a table I could follow, outlining the approach. I don't think I could handle a book read, in my sleep deprived state Grin

fpeg · 05/07/2022 19:32

@Rolledthedice @laurenGame I did start from the first day (no routine to start, just 3 hourly feeding), then once regained birth weight stated on the first week. She does have a section in the book explaining how to start when a few weeks old, basically you start at weeks 1-2 and move forwards more quickly than you would do normally. It's all about getting night time and not day time sleeping in. Managing the day sleeps to get better night sleeps and they can be on different feeding and sleeping weeks (will make sense when you read it). We're still not perfect (especially from the last feed), but she does consistently sleep 5-6 hours overnight (last night 00:30 to 7:05) - if we had it perfect it would be more like 11:00 to 5:30, but it's good enough for me 😁

fpeg · 05/07/2022 19:35

@laurenGame you don't need to read the whole book, you can just do your section for what week you are in. I tried to look at writing it in a table and it was quite difficult, I just end up going back to the book and seeing what it tells me to do at each point in the day and see what my next move is.

fpeg · 05/07/2022 19:45

Here's an example of weeks 1-2 and how it spells it out for you. There is a box at the beginning which just outlines feeding and sleeping (and expressing) times.

RoseValleyRambles · 05/07/2022 21:33

Is anyone else finding guests really hard? My expressing goes out the window, I'm knackered from chatting, and nothing is done in the house. I feel really (comparatively) on top of things on a normal day, but visitors seem to be the straw that broke the camel's back...

Letsbekindplease · 05/07/2022 22:17

I have such an unsettled little one. She screams all night and eventually just shuts down because she’s exhausted from the crying. She’s full of gas. Her little butt has been pumping away when she’s in discomfort.
we
use infacol and I’ve started making her bottles from the kettle rather than the perfect prep to rule that out of it’s causing the wind.
she’s fell asleep on my bed and I’m scared to move her to her bedside crib incase I wake her.

I have a feeling I’m in for a restless night tonight because she has slept a lot today and early evening before she started crying.

Rolledthedice · 05/07/2022 22:18

@RoseValleyRambles yes, I feel exactly the same! It’s frustrating trying to keep on top of pumping and feeding when guests come by and expect to be given a cup of tea, when really I just want them to bring us food or offers to tidy up. 😅

Yecats22 · 06/07/2022 11:29

Has anyone had a period since having baby?
