@TurquoiseDreamCatcher you'll get lots of support from the dietician who you will see at your next appt.

I find eating 4 small meals and 2 snacks is the only way i can manage. I want to try and diet control again to avoid insulin. They'll keep an eye on baby growth to make sure baby isn't getting too much sugar from you and getting too big.

For breakfast I usually have eggs, avocado and wholemeal toast (1 slice as 2 slices puts me over the edge!)
Then if hungry I'll have piece of fruit or veggie sticks with Humous.
Lunch usually salmon / chicken salad
Afternoon snack Alpen cereal bar or nature valley protein bar with decaf coffee.
Dinner, fish/chicken/veggie alternative/spag Bol with lots of veg mainly green and sweet potatoes. Also drink lots of water.

This isn't the time to be radically changing your diet. You might just have to start on medications and or insulin injections to cope with the carbs. Just ask lots of questions at your appt 😊

Thank you @Butterflytulip. The nurse who phoned me said my numbers were only slightly high so I'm hoping that it can be controlled with diet.

I'm not a huge fan of breakfast, I definitely couldn't stomach toast, avocado and egg. Im hoping to find a suitable breakfast cereal.

On top of this, I've been bitten by something, I've got seven bites on my leg and now I want to rip my leg off! Not a good day here.

legaltigger · 15/06/2022 22:02

HaresHoping · 15/06/2022 22:08

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher have you got an germolene in?

I'll go and get some tomorrow. I'm awake in the middle night feeling itchy and uncomfortable 😭

amorningperson · 16/06/2022 07:36

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher so sorry to hear that. I’m not saying this is the case but thought I would mention just in case: dehydration can cause a spike in glucose levels. Especially if your levels were only slightly high, the fact that you were so thirsty May be a factor. Not only does your blood get more concentrated but dehydration also spikes cortisol which can cause glucose release.
I don’t know if this is the case for you but I wonder if you’d want to raise the way you were treated during your test to your midwife or nurse. As a contrast, I was allowed to walk home (10 minute walk) and allowed to sip water throughout. It makes no sense to completely dehydrate you or force you to be stationary as that will of course raise all blood solutes levels because they are measure as a percentage of the sample if that makes sense. Like a ml of dehydrated blood will
contain more of everything as there will be less volume taken up by water. Just soemthing to consider, promise I’m NOT giving out medical advise on mumsnet! But didn’t want to not mention (I work in a clinical role) in case it makes a difference for you there.

TMI incoming - anyone feel very ‘heavy’ in their crotch region? I feel like things are about to fall out by the end of the day, I think it’s time to double down on the pelvic floor exercises!

Butterflytulip · 16/06/2022 07:37

Oh no @TurquoiseDreamCatcher yep the dietician will tell you which cereals are best.
I find I am hungry usually late afternoon but I can't eat cause my sugar is still raised. It does get worse the further the pregnancy progresses. I was on insulin for last 6 weeks last time even with being soo good with food. Our bodies just do their own thing.

Butterflytulip · 16/06/2022 07:40

@amorningperson yep I get that feeling after a long walk!!! Forces me to lie down!! Think the anterror placenta may have something to do with it tho.

There's no harm in going with the GD, it results in more scans and greater peace of mind for those that need it. I have to be scanned now every 3 weeks to monitor growth.
The water thing is definitely strange as not all areas are following the same guideline. There must be a reason for it tho.

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 16/06/2022 08:33

@amorningperson I did wonder about the effects of not being allowed water in the test and wether that would have had an effect on the result. I've complained to the hospital about it.

My bloods were 5.9 when I went in and 9.4 after the test. I'm going to follow all medical advice and have found some suitable diabetic meals to make in the meantime. I'll also cut out sugar from my diet.

I'm not surprised that I do have it though, my dad is diabetic and so were both my grandmas. I'm also overweight. I'm seeing this as the kick up the bum that I needed. I'm also going to start swimming - anything you help!

Butterflytulip · 16/06/2022 08:57

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher @amorningperson it also works the opposite way. If you are allowed water then it dilutes the sugar and could be false negative...
it's so common and it's not a big deal.
Watch out for the diabetic meals, they are loaded with other stuff and are expensive.
The dietician will advise. If you love cooking it's easy

amorningperson · 16/06/2022 09:32

@Butterflytulip @TurquoiseDreamCatcher totally- promise I’m not suggesting you don’t take the medical advice!!! Just a consideration and wanting to share in case your level was like 0.5 over. I think key is drinking the same amount of water up to the test and during the test as your body maintains homeostasis with water levels. Sooo if you’re well hydrated before staying well hydrated throughout will make sure you have a more accurate reading. And vice versa! I hope you guys are able to change your lifestyle in a way that feels sustainable, it probably wouldn’t hurt me to cut down on sugar even without a GD diagnosis 🙈

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 16/06/2022 09:58

I've checked the guidelines for the hospital I had the test at. They say I should have been offered water to sip throughout the test.

I'm going to follow all the advice that they give me. At the end of the day, that's what is best for me and the little lady.

I'm off to to Asda in a bit, I've ordered in for that will be better for me. I'm also going to see if my maternity swimming costume from last time still fits, now is the best time to add in a bit more exercise.

legaltigger · 16/06/2022 14:44

Oh god. 34 degrees it was in my car today. How am I going to survive summer???

Billymay · 17/06/2022 11:04

Hi all. Just checking in… it’s been a crazy few weeks. How are we all coping with the hot weather? My 16 month old is so irritated and not sleeping and she’s waking my 7 year old up. Can’t wait to do the school run in 31° later. Xxx

Celyn22 · 17/06/2022 14:49

Oh my goodness, up till now I thought I was doing alright in the heat, but it's making me so tired, and I can't think straight let alone get my words out! We've got an event on at home this weekend, so I'm hosting and cooking for 15 people... I am struggling! I will ask for help when I need it and I know there's support but I'm still battling with trying to do everything on my own.

Sending you all lots of cooling hugs xx

Butterflytulip · 17/06/2022 19:47

Iv definitely got GD. As soon as you are given a blood sugar monitor to test at home you'll soon see you have it! I can't have 2 slices of bread without high readings. @amorningperson
@TurquoiseDreamCatcher at your next appt you'll get a meter. Eat something really carby like pizza or chips and you'll see yourself how you react. Xo

Butterflytulip · 17/06/2022 21:28

Can't believe I'm in the 3rd trimester!! Belly starting to move now with the movements! Surprised I can feel so much movement with having an anterior placenta

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 17/06/2022 21:57

Thank you @Butterflytulip, it's really useful knowing what to expect. I went out for a family meal today and I had to ask my sister what I was allowed to order. She is a health care assistant and understands everything much better than me.

It made me look at the calorie listings though, I was horrified when I saw the difference between what she picked for me and what I actually wanted. I also had no pudding which made me feel a bit sad.

After the meal, the little one was leaping about in my tummy. DH actually saw the movement from the other side of the table!

annlee3817 · 18/06/2022 07:08

Sorry to hear you had a bad time with the testing @TurquoiseDreamCatcher

@Butterflytulip I had a midwife appt this week and said how surprised I was that I could feel the movements so strongly with an anterior placenta and she said from this stage it won't make a difference, it's only in the earlier stages that it will really mask the movements, but now they are bigger we should be able to feel them and see them.

Stayed at my parents last night and forgot my pregnancy pillow, didn't realise how much I rely on it, so had a crap night's sleep!

Heat wise, I've realised I need some casual comfy dresses, so will have a look through Vinted and see what I can find

Butterflytulip · 18/06/2022 08:00

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher hehe with baby jumping from across the table!!
I go for meat or veggie option when out and veggies and have some chips / potato but defo less than normal. Pasta and pizza is out for me.
After 2 hrs when blood sugar drops and I'm at home I'll have a cup of tea and 3 cadburys fingers lol. I love chocolate!!

LaddieCthulu · 18/06/2022 08:08

My sleep at night is now very broken thanks to incredible pressure and pain just under my ribs if I lie on either side. I can't stay on my right side at all, occasionally can stay on my left side for longer than a few minutes but not that long. So I can only get any sleep on my back. Not ideal at 29 weeks :/.

I have been trying to sleep propped up on my back on pillows at least so I am not flat on my back.
I spoke to the gp two days ago who said, "well that's pregnancy for you, if you start vomiting blood or can't breath then contact us".

Urgh. I cannot imagine another 10 weeks of this. It hurts now I'm up and about too!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 18/06/2022 10:34

Hey ladies how are you all got a sticky situation here does anyone no about SMP?? Due to the non fault car accident I had last month the accident caused me to have a dislocated shoulder I have had to have it completely taped up to limit my movements and it will be taken off at 38 weeks 😩 so with this in mind I am not allowed back to work due to safety reasons so have been signed off until my holiday kicks in before my maternity leave. I am trying to work out if I am still entitled to my SMP but cannot work out which payslips they will be using to determine my average weekly pay.. i have worked for the same company for Nearly 7 years..., all I see online is about a qualifying period...,Anyone any good at this could they please help me I am stressed to the eyeballs xx

Em85kk · 18/06/2022 16:44

@Sweetbabydust1989 the qualifying week is the 15th week before you are due, so 25 weeks x

Sweetbabydust1989 · 18/06/2022 17:01

@Em85kk so do I count back 8 weeks from week 25 to see what payslips they will use?? I get paid every 4 weeks so it will most likely be 2 payslips to work out my average earnings..

when I spoke to hmrc they said they use all payslips leading up to the due date but the gov website says different.. I am a little worried as my pay this month will have half company sick and the rest bog standard sick wish I could go back to work but I physically cannot do anything there I just don't want to loose out as I won't even get my enhanced maternity pay if I don't meet the smp I don't want to be penalised for an accident that wasn't my fault xx

Em85kk · 18/06/2022 17:08

@Sweetbabydust1989 yes back 8 weeks from 25, they calculate based on this. Were you on sick pay for any of these weeks? If so, and this was less than you’re usual earnings, then it seems they will use this lower amount.

Sweetbabydust1989 · 18/06/2022 17:18

@Em85kk in the month of April and may my earnings were well over the £123 per week so I am all good it was just from this month as my company sick ran out 2 weeks ago so will have 2 weeks company and 2 weeks big standard.

So by my calculations:

Due date: 19/9/22

Qualify week: either the 5/6/22 or 12/6/22 depending on wether they do Sunday to Saturday.

Relevant period: either the 17/4/22 or 24/4/22 depending on which date they use on the qualifying week.

With this in my mind my 2 pay days would of been 29/4/22 and 27/5/22.

So I am guessing they will use these which has my normal pay in anything from the 27th may will have some company sick and the rest ssp.
