So had weird symptoms and had no period, I'm 3 days late so I took a test cos I wanted to know if I should book a smear test as I was waiting for after period ... I'm guessing by this test I'm pregnant... did all you older 1st time mums have healthy pregnancies? I've lost 3 babies in the past so I'm terrified I'll lose this ... I'm also guessing this is defo not a false positive!

That's a very strong positive! Looks like a cheapy? I always find the cheapy ones come out light in my opinion
Mine was much lighter when I tested positive and was 15 DPO when the clear blue was so strong x congratulations x

Ceejay85 · 20/05/2022 22:41

Yeah it was £4 from co-op lol ...

A doctor told me on my 2nd pregnancy that the cheaper ones are the best (a clearblue one said I was negative at the time) unfortunately that pregnancy wasn't successful in the end.

I'll ring the docs up Monday and get it confirmed soon

Your doctor probably won't want to hear from you - and they won't do any tests to confirm anything. Google will point you to the midwifery service in your area and there's usually an online form to complete then they'll call you when you're somewhere around 8-10 weeks pregnant to arrange a booking in appointment. You're pregnant. Congratulations!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 20/05/2022 22:53

Congratulations! I was a first time mum at 42 and had no problems.

Ceejay85 · 20/05/2022 23:17

Just done a 2nd test now at 11pm (1st was done at 6pm) yeah that's 2 positives now!

Totally wasn't planned pregnancy ... that's for sure

Congratulations OP

I was 36 when baby conceived and 37 when born. FTM - perfectly healthy.

When I got my positive, I phoned doctors (spoke to reception) who then referred me to the midwives.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 21/05/2022 00:25

I was two weeks off my 38th birthday when DS was born. My mum had me when she was 44.

Agapita84 · 21/05/2022 03:20

@ceejay85
Congratulations!

I got pregnant at 37 too.
Everything is OK so far for me, except that I got Gestational Diabetes, which it is said that it is a higher risk in geriatric mothers non in my family had this before.

I would only recommend to keep healthy eating, and moderate exercise.
If you don't excercise, get started slowly (Not out of breath), if you do already keep it up and listen to your body.

Consult your Midwife or GP.

Everything will be fine 😊

SerendipitySunshine · 21/05/2022 04:05

Congratulations! I had my kids later and it was the best thing I've ever done.

brokengoalposts · 21/05/2022 04:17

Congratulations. I've only been pg twice, at 34 and 38, both successful births and adult/teen now.

autienotnaughty · 21/05/2022 04:47

Congratulations. I had ds 3 at 36. No issues just more tired and headache prone than in my twenties!

Regenbogen22 · 21/05/2022 04:51

@Ceejay85 congrats!

If you've had 3 losses already and, considering your age (I'm 39 so no age bashing here! Just cos you mentioned it), you might want to immediately start yourself on 75mg of aspirin a day.

It's often recommended anyway for slightly older mum's due to our higher risk of preeclampsia, but it can seemingly work wonders after several losses, in keeping a sticky bean.

Buy off the shelf and take at night. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they up the dose to 150mg, seems to be standard now.

Poopootatty · 21/05/2022 06:04

37 isn’t that old! I had my first a few months before turning 38. I wasn’t the oldest. Different story when I had my second at 41. Felt much more aware of my age. Both pregnancies healthy. I second the advice about Aspirin, it’s worth taking. Good luck!

Ceejay85 · 21/05/2022 06:04

@Regenbogen22 I appreciate the advice and will try it 😊

Really appreciate every single message cos quite frankly I'm pooping myself at the moment! Still feels like a weird dream right now in all honesty! I turned 37 on the 5th of this month ... I turns out baby is gonna be the result of birthday night bedroom mischief 😂(I was ovulating around that time) ...

Sexnotgender · 21/05/2022 06:08

I had a baby just before I turned 37 and 39. Both super easy pregnancies and births. Congratulations.

MrsT84 · 21/05/2022 06:28

I had my second baby just over a month ago. I am 38 next month. I did have gestational diabetes this time round but that could have been due to my size rather than age. I just took things one day at a time. Good luck to you x

theotherfossilsister · 21/05/2022 08:12

I'm thirty seven and due my little boy in three months.

Merryclaire · 21/05/2022 08:42

Congratulations OP! It can definitely be an anxious time. I am pregnant with my first at 39 and I always worry that my age will cause issues. But plenty of people do it successfully.
Sorry to hear you lost three previous pregnancies - was that investigated previously?

fossilsmorefossils · 21/05/2022 09:22

I had six pregnancies and only one dd. The older I got, the further my pregnancies went. Dd was born healthy when I was 41.

Good luck.

Fulbe · 21/05/2022 11:28

According to research, older mums live longer. So double congratulations! I'm 38 and expecting a LO in January 2023 too.

orion678 · 21/05/2022 11:33

I had my first at 35 (3 months before my 36th birthday) and second a month before turning 38. Both uncomplicated pregnancies and births, and both healthy little monsters!

Ceejay85 · 21/05/2022 16:29

Read bad things about the tests I originally used so got a tesco own brand just to make sure ... safe to say I'm pregnant me thinks ... 3 positive tests 😮

I’ve just had my first 11 days ago three months before my 36th birthday. I had a completely uncomplicated pregnancy, no aches or pains along the way, was still taking the dog on 2-hour walks in the countryside a day before my planned c-section!

He is a rainbow baby too, I had two early losses before. This time I was on progesterone in first trimester and low dose aspirin from positive test until a week before the c-sec.

Rockschooldropout · 21/05/2022 18:05

I was 38 when my DD was born , she’s 12 now . I did have a very monitored pregnancy due to other health issues but had a lightning quick and easy Labour . Congratulations! There is no arguing with those test results 😊
