Morning all!

32 weeks this morning for me! My belly button also feels really stretched, although not painful, just pulled in all the directions. ๐Ÿ˜„

Does anyone know - can I start drinking 1 cup of raspberry leaf tea now?
Also is anyone getting a TENS machine to use in labour?

@Coco9910 on the nappy question...it sounds mad, but multiple places say to get a pack of 24! I guess...if we're supposed to change them every 2-3 hours, we will need 12ish if we stay 24 h. But who knows? Also, the hospital apparently may give you 1-2, but they do not generally supply them (at least mine doesn't)!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 06/06/2022 10:58

@Danani my midwife said not until 36 weeks, start with one cup a day then each week build up more cups.
I think she wanted to be as cautious as possible as thereโ€™s no โ€œofficial nhsโ€ guidance around it so she didnโ€™t want to say start at 32 weeks then potentially have a pre-term Labour happening!

Danani · 06/06/2022 11:00

Ahhh I see! Thanks @HotToddyColdSauvignon ! I read different things online and wasn't sure, I guess I'll hold off till I speak with my MW in 2 weeks' time.

NamelessBaby1 · 06/06/2022 12:45

@Danani my midwife said exactly the same as HotToddys when I asked about the tea, not to do anything that might bring on labour any time before 36 weeks. I've had some in my cupboard for ages now lol but holding off for abother couple of weeks.
She also told me that there is far more evidence for the impact of dates, which is something I don't ever eat, so will be stocking up on those soon too lol.

Lianna93 · 06/06/2022 13:14

@Danani @NamelessBaby1 @HotToddyColdSauvignon My midwife was exactly the same ๐Ÿ˜‚ Though, she said 37 rather than 36 but very much of the same opinion - not enough information on whether it works or not so play it safe ๐Ÿ˜Š

I've seen videos of people making the tea with lemonade as apparently the flavour ain't great ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I'm not one for herbal teas so will definitely be trying it with lemonade ๐Ÿ˜‚

Where are you guys getting your tea from? I went into Holland & Barrett but they wanted ยฃ6 for 15 bags ๐Ÿ˜ณ

OP posts:
NamelessBaby1 · 06/06/2022 13:28

@Lianna93 how would that work, like make it up as normal then mix it with lemonade, or dip the teabag in lemonade? ๐Ÿ˜– I'm the same though, always prefer flavoured back tea rather than anything herbal, but will do whatever it takes to try and help labour go easier lol. I just bought them from Holland & Barret even though it was extortionate, couldn't be bothered looking around for them!

It might have been 37 weeks I was told too, it's all rolling into one at this point though haha.

KizboBaggins · 06/06/2022 13:36

Has anyone still got a while left until they go on maternity leave? We've just got back from the Lake District for a lovely glamping weekend and the thought of 4 more weeks at work is awful... my last day is 1st July! Seems so far away. I'm coping pretty well physically but mentally I've not only checked out I've basically got in a taxi and am making my way home, emphatically waving goodbye to my work life for the next 10 months...

Oh and work still don't have a replacement but should do by two weeks before I go off... brilliant... can't wait to do the worlds worst handover

I'm trying to enjoy every minute of pregnancy, and the free time I currently have, but I just want to meet my little boy... apologies for the vent!

Coco9910 · 06/06/2022 13:54

@Gaily82 @Danani thank you both for nappy advice! I think Iโ€™ll just take a pack of 24 as itโ€™s better to have too many than not enough! And I will grab some incontinence pads next time Iโ€™m in the supermarket. I keep telling people how glamorous being pregnant is ๐Ÿ˜…

Im sat patiently waiting to start drinking raspberry leaf tea! Is it 36 weeks for dates also?

@KizboBaggins yes i finish on 29th June and Iโ€™m taking 4 weeks leave before my maternity leave starts on my due date and Iโ€™m proper on the count down. Same as you, I donโ€™t have a replacement but they also arenโ€™t planning to bring in a replacement before I leave so Iโ€™m just being worked to the bone until I finish which Iโ€™m struggling with. Had a bit of a do with my manager last week as Iโ€™ve been telling him for about a month how Iโ€™m run down and I need to take it easy and he keeps pushing me to do things that are making me exhausted when I could do it remotely so I had a whole day of just sat crying my eyes out as I was like โ€œI donโ€™t know how Iโ€™m going to do another 4 weeks of this.โ€ He hasnโ€™t spoken to me since then (was last Monday) but I told him I will need to go to HR to get something proper put in place ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Wonโ€™t be long until we are finished :)

My babyโ€™s been head down for at least a month but I feel like sheโ€™s shuffled and is head up now as she had hiccups this morning and I could feel them at the top of my bump, where as I usually feel them at the bottom. Iโ€™m 32+4 so I know thereโ€™s still time for her to move but it has puzzled me ๐Ÿ˜…

kiwi17 · 06/06/2022 13:59

First official day of maternity leave here and I'm loving life ๐Ÿ˜‚ have mooched around the shops and now having a chilled lunch. @KizboBaggins I feel your pain - when I left work last week they still hadn't appointed my replacement so I did no handover at all! But hey, not my problem now - will just have to pick up the pieces in a years time..! Good luck with the last 4 weeks.

Tried to buy maternity pads in asda and boots today and there were none anywhere! Have bought Breast pads though - not seen many people mention them but in case anyone is looking I remember the Lansinoh disposables being the best to start with as they didn't leak - worth the extra money in my opinion!

KizboBaggins · 06/06/2022 14:06

@Coco9910 that sounds awful! I would absolutely go to HR if I were you. When someone is pregnant they are so ridiculously protected that I'm surprised your manager dare push you to do anything. And even more surprising if you're being forced to go in when you have the option of remote working.

I'm pretty lucky, my company are great and I WFH 2 days a week, and I know if I asked they'd let me increase that - so I shouldn't complain (but I will ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Also when is your next midwife appt? I was convinced my baby had shifted from being head down as I'd felt hiccups higher and I just felt different, but the midwife soon told me I was completely wrong lol

Coco9910 · 06/06/2022 14:12

@KizboBaggins to be fair HR werenโ€™t much help. We only go in to the office 1 day a week and Iโ€™m happy to do that, but HR did say I can work from home full time if I wish. My work place prides themselves on looking after peoples well-being so I will be mentioning it to my manager that I feel like my well being isnโ€™t even being considered. I was so angry I was going to ask to use the remainder of my leave and finish next Friday instead of 29th! My next midwife appointment is next Wednesday. I will mention it to her and see what she says! It blows my mind they can tell the position just from feeling ๐Ÿ˜‚

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 06/06/2022 14:26

I just went for Amazon, got 20 for ยฃ2.87 I think. It tastes alright, not bad, just a bit blaaaaaah.

certainly doesnโ€™t taste of raspberry unfortunately!

NamelessBaby1 · 06/06/2022 15:41

@KizboBaggins I finish a week on Friday, then have 2 weeks AL before my mat leave kicks in. I still don't have a replacement for most of my workload , some of it has been handed over already though. I've written everything else up in a handover document so that might just have to do for whoever picks up the rest! And tbh I now no longer care, haha. Have totally switched off from work!

Lianna93 · 06/06/2022 15:41

@NamelessBaby1 They make up the tea first but not like a full cup, just enough to let it brew then I want to say they add ice then the lemonade. I'd need to find a video again to refresh my memory ๐Ÿ˜‚

@KizboBaggins I was exactly like you - counted down every shift I had before I was off ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm on annual leave atm. Maternity doesn't start until half way through the month but I'm so glad I'm done.
I don't think my body would have coped with much more - I feel like my pelvis could snap into two at any moment ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

@HotToddyColdSauvignon I'll have a wee look on Amazon - thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

@KizboBaggins Iโ€™m 35+3 today and my last working day is the 24th of June when Iโ€™m 38 weeks ๐Ÿฅฑ I have 14 working days left and Iโ€™m counting down.. hope they go quickly ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

strawberrysummer19 · 06/06/2022 16:31

Just a little update on my sore belly
Here is a pic of it just incase anyone else ever experiences it

My midwife said it doesn't sound like anything pregnancy call my GP ๐Ÿ™„but already had just thought I'd check with her also

Anyway....My GP has said it could be puppp - had never heard of it

flo.health/pregnancy/pregnancy-health/illnesses-and-infections/puppp-during-pregnancy#:~:text=PUPPP%20(pruritic%20urticarial%20papules%20and,for%20why%20it%20might%20happen.

I've been given antihistamines and some cream to put on twice a day
Also have just put some calamine lotion on so fingers crossed it helps and soothes !! Because it's really awful

Also been sent for bloods due to the itching as DR said something about IC and liver but think just as a precaution as I told him how worried I was and feeling anxious which I am

Was worried Incase it was something I was missing and baby isn't ok

I just hope it feels better soon x

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 06/06/2022 20:38

@annie1994 my little one is also transverse, although Iโ€™m only 34 weeks. My consultant said there was no obvious reason for her to be transverse (eg polyhydramnios, bicornate uterus, fibroids etc) so she should flip. Then again, sheโ€™s been transverse since 20 weeks so personally Iโ€™m not holding out much hope Sad. I feel exactly the same way about squishing her head when I lie on my side!

beetree1 · 06/06/2022 21:40

Tomorrow is my last day at work and theyโ€™re actually giving us a day off to spend together doing something fun so itโ€™s the perfect last day for me.

I had my 34 week appointment today baby has gone from being over the 90th percentile to now over the 50th. Has anyone else had this? They said if it goes down again at the 36 week appointment Iโ€™ve got to have another growth scan. Midwife doesnโ€™t seem worried and thinks itโ€™s because the baby has changed position or Iโ€™ve lost some fluid. I hope it is. I also had my Strep B test today so hopefully get thw results next week.

deliwoman1 · 07/06/2022 06:49

Hi everyone!

I've been on the raspberry leaf tea capsules since 34 weeks. Checked with midwife first and she said it 'wouldn't hurt' - she'd drunk the tea herself from pretty early on. Basically the advice was that nothing is going to make you go into labour if your body and baby aren't ready. If raspberry leaf tea had the power to do that, there would be no such thing as induction. Still, I understand why some recommend caution. I did one tablet a day for a week, then two, now I'm on 3 a day at 36+2. No probs so far, only the occasional braxton hicks, which I was getting anyway. Started with the dates at 36 weeks. 6 a day! I chop them up and chuck them in muesli. Started perineal massage yesterday, too. It stung a bit but was fine.

All this womb conditioning and stretching may be for nothing though as baby is currently breech. ๐Ÿ™„Having an ECV on Friday, so will let you all know what that's like in case anyone else is in the same boat and wondering, but I'm pessimistic it'll work, or that she'll flip back immediately, for some reason. I think I'm headed for an ECLS... The obstetrician did give me the choice between ECV and ECLS there and then, but I felt I needed to try to turn her first. My biggest concern with a c-section is the wait to try for a second child. My obstetrician recommended a year yesterday, and that's if all goes well, but for me that means being 41 and a half before we can even start again. It took a year of multiple losses before this one stuck, so I'm expecting a rough road again if we decide to try. Of course risks and stats get worse over 40.๐Ÿ˜”

I felt pretty disappointed tbh, as I've had my suspicions she wasn't actually head down for a while, despite what midwife was telling me. Last scan was also confusing with sonographer saying 'head up' multiple times, yet writing cephalic in my notes. The lump at the top of my bump just didn't feel like a bloody foot to me or my partner, which was what the midwife told me a few times! I've since found out we've been sporadically poking her poor head. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I wish I'd had more time with the knowledge she was breech because I think she has been for a while.

Last Wednesday was my final day at work, and technically I'm now on annual leave (mat leave starts on due date, 3rd July), so that's a relief. Apparently there's a 1 in 200 chance that the ECV on Friday will lead to an emergency c-section, so I have to be packed and ready just in case. I don't feel prepared at all for that eventuality, and will be scared to have the baby a little bit pre-term, but she's estimated at a good weight (6lb 3oz) already, and we do have 90% of what we wanted to get before baby comes. Next couple of days will be a dash to get the hospital bag sorted!

missv556 · 07/06/2022 08:35

My pelvis is in absolute agony, every movement I make hurts ๐Ÿ˜ญ turning over in bed last night was excruciating, walking around my home to go to the toilet is barely manageable. I dont know what to do. I have a midwife appointment every week and I don't think I'm gonna be able to manage that anymore because it looks like I'll be house bound until birth if I can barely walk

Lianna93 · 07/06/2022 08:45

@deliwoman1 I'm sorry to hear baby is breech - got everything crossed for you that they'll be able to move baby & they'll stay head down ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

@missv556 Im in the same boat as you with the pelvis pain. I'm finding that paracetamol & using a heat pack in between my legs at night gives me some relief come morning but I'm also at the stage where I need DH to help me out of bed when the pain gets too much.
Ready for baby to be out ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚

OP posts:
missv556 · 07/06/2022 09:03

@Lianna93 I shed a few tears cos it's almost unbearable. My fiance leaves pretty early for work so he can't even help me unfortunately. My mum is coming over later thankfully cos she was gonna help me do some meal prep. I was thinking about a soak in the bath but bit worried I'll end up stuck unable to get myself out

Lianna93 · 07/06/2022 09:08

@missv556 Baths have definitely been helping me but trying to get in & out is a nightmare - as is trying to sit up in it after I've submerged myself ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚
I always knew later stages were gonna be hard on mobility but didn't expect it to be this difficult ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
If you can, wait until someone's there with you that could help you out but baths have definitely been great for me ๐Ÿฅฐ

My midwife said whatever I'm doing now, try to keep my legs together as much as possible & if I'm putting on shoes or trousers or whatever, then I do that sitting down so I'm not standing on one leg.
I've got a birthing ball but I'm not sure if it helps any or makes me feel worse... ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

OP posts:
Danani · 07/06/2022 09:55

@Lianna93 I have been eyeing this tea pack on Amazon - it's Heath & Heather and is 50 tea bags for ยฃ4.90....although if we're only supposed to do 1 cup a day from 36/37 weeks it seems like a tad much LOL.

RE eating dates - this is by no means groundbreaking but this will change your life:
Medjool dates (those are the best juiciest kind you can get) - you cut in half, remove the pit, add a teaspoon of peanut butter, and if you feel fancy a tiny piece of dark chocolate. It literally tastes like Snickers. It's amazing! And you're welcome!

I'm with you ladies on the pelvic pain! Mine isn't too bad day-to-day, but turning in bed is quite achy, and also I notice if I go for a long walk, or walk fast, or just stand a lot during the day - it always gets worse! And then I'm also barely shuffling around the house! I find that rest usually helps - if I've overdone it, just spending the next day at home, lying down more, and recharging, I'm usually back to (almost) normal the day after.

Also so so so jealous of everyone starting their mat leave! So blooming exciting!!! I made the decision to take a longer (for me) mat leave and use all my holidays at the end, so I'm not starting mine till 2 days before due date! LOL! I like living on the edge! But tbh, work has been very (oddly) understanding and I think everyone's expectation (mine certainly!) is not to bother me past mid-July!

Danani · 07/06/2022 09:56

@Lianna93 I also got a birthing ball, and while I find it nice and fun sitting on it, if I sit for longer than 20 min, my pelvic area definitely feels worse after! It just feels....stiffer somehow I can't explain it. Maybe that's the idea? LOL
